Helen Mary Jones statement. Plaid cymru politician apologises for transphobia and will seek re-education

The Plaid politician has put this linked statement on twitter, in which she apologises for previous transphobic comments causing harm and for retweeting transphobes. She says she accepts Plaid Cymry's belief in the 'inalienable right' to self determine your own gender, and to access single sex facilities of your gender. She and others will get training from an external organisation approved by the trans community.

Just back from the post office. I decided to send a card, although I understand why some people feel very ambivalent about it. Yes it's shit that her statement drops some other women and organisations in it by implying that they are transphobes (whatever that means), but I doubt whether she was given much choice. 'Denounce the other witches or else!' Very little faith in Plaid or Labour doing much to protect women's rights after the election now. If they manage to repeal the Equality Act and replace it with something based on identities this side of Offa's Dyke it will be much, much worse. Wales and Scotland are both stuffed. Totally captured. As someone who wanted devolution and used to be proud to wear a Stonewall t-shirt it's sickening. Be careful what you wish for.
