@Xanthangum - that link is absolutely terrifying. Children as young as twelve prescribed puberty blockers?! How do they manage to circumvent the recent ruling??

AnyOldPrion · 27/02/2021 07:48

Bizarrely, they appear to have issued a rebuttle that confirms nearly every detail to be true.

Is it bizarre, or might it be a case of using the publicity to advertise their services to more potential patients?

FindTheTruth · 27/02/2021 07:50

“substantive” General Medical Council hearing in July...

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2021 07:50

Looks like the GenderGP rebuttal has been archived.

I suppose they have no choice but to try to justify their actions. Procedure and best practise don't seem to have got in the way before.

Cwenthryth · 27/02/2021 07:57

It’s a regulatory issue - we are allowing EU prescriptions to be filled in the U.K., despite EU practitioners not having to work within U.K. regulation.

Am a bit surprised Brexit hasn’t put paid to it tbh, but I’d hazard a guess it might not be too difficult to close this loophole now we are out of the EU. I don’t know, IANAL.

There will always be ways around things though - plenty of women in genuine need import B12 injections or thyroid medications into the U.K. from abroad as our healthcare system tends to let them down. (Diagnosis: woman, get on with it). There are hundreds of medications that are restricted by medical prescription in the U.K., that in other countries you can just walk into a pharmacy and buy over the counter no questions asked. There will always be a way around - so regulation alone can’t be relied upon to safeguard vulnerable young people.

Interesting that the article mentioned that H Webberly faces a hearing with the GMC in July.

Children as young as 12 prescribed cross sex hormones. They’ve prescribed PBs as young as 10.

Andrew Doyle just covered this on sky news paper review.

InterfectoremVulpes · 27/02/2021 08:31

Interesting how stuff like this garners no response from the "just be kind" crowd.

Its like they know that if the acknowledge shit like this is outrageous and damaging then they might have to acknowledge that the rest of it is too.

Was just coming to say this. He did an ok job.

Nice to see it covered on sky.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/02/2021 09:01

Money. Honestly I think that’s all it is. Money and adulation and woke cookies

Nah. Just money. They are like drug dealers. You'll have seen they have this wonderful scheme where treatment can be funded? So a young person can get their initial appointments and first medication laid for as that is a big up front cost, and then it's just monthly payments for the rest of their life...

It’s been mentioned to Andrew on twitter the fact the Webberley’s had their medical licences suspended by the GMC hence the move overseas. He didn’t know!

More sunlight ❤️

Really great to see The Telegraph investigating this.

Totally. That wouldn’t have happened a year ago.

Children as young as twelve prescribed puberty blockers?! How do they manage to circumvent the recent ruling??

As far as I'm aware, the prohibitive effect of the High Court ruling is not yet in force, it's pending until the Court of Appeal gives a ruling. GIDS haven't stopped giving out puberty blockers because of the High Court ruling, it's because unless then get confirmation that it's legal to proceed, they know they'll be putting themselves at very high risk if they continue to enable kids to get puberty blockers.

Puberty blockers was actually 10. 12 was cross sex hormones.
flyingbuttress43 · 27/02/2021 10:40

Good on the Telegraph. Remember, it was the Telegraph that exposed the MPs' expenses scandal and we all know how that went. The bit is now between the Telegraph's teeth, so to speak. It has been building up to this for a little while now.

I have to say, the Telegraph has for a long time had a much more pro female, pro equality stance than the Guardian, whether it's their women in business campaigns or their coverage of women's sport.
Forget the old stereotype. I ditched the Guardian a long time ago.

gardenbird48 · 27/02/2021 11:00

The activists are now targeting the Telegraph advertisers because of this article.

Mr J Maugham has an interesting take:

If they succeed in banning Gendergp how will they address those buying Puberty Blockers on the dark web with no medical intervention at all?

What medical intervention does he think that Gendergp provide?? They’ve said that they don’t provide any.

That GenderGP rebuttal is terrifying.

Andrew Doyle is Titania McGrath. I am a shallow person and few things give me more pleasure on Twitter than seeing somebody woke re-tweeting Titania McGrath without realising it's satire.

Good for the Telegraph investigating this. That and Janice Turner's excellent Times column on the defunding of women's refuges really put The Guardian to shame. Where's its cutting edge investigation and comment on women's issues and safeguarding of children?

Clymene · 27/02/2021 11:40

I'm not sure why Jolly thinks that GenderGP'S dodgy PBs are any better than someone else's dodgy PBs. Buying drugs off a suspended doctor really shouldn't give anyone comfort.

I’m obviously shallow too as it’s highly entertaining.

ArabellaScott · 27/02/2021 12:00

So, Maughum is equating GenderGP with backstreet abortionists?

If you don't agree with the use of gender gp you should read the bible says Jolyon Hmm

At some point Maugham is going to have to find someone(s) to blame for his behaviour over this issue. That is a going to be glorious day. I wonder who'll be in the frame for making him act as he's acting?

Melroses · 27/02/2021 12:11

Apparently they will supply a letter to change the gender marker on your passport too for a small sum.

I don't know why passports are considered any sort of id these days, or why the census think it is a valid legal sex.
