Woman who has been chained to her partner

Hopefully the link works. link

I was going to title this “couple who have chained themselves to each other” but after reading the report that’s clearly not what has happened. Her boyfriend chained her to him to stop her leaving him.

This woman has been hospitalised due to the ulcers this chain has created on her arm.

Lots of grinning faces on Facebook. This is a woman who has literally been chained to her a abusive partner to prevent her leaving- it’s causing her physical injury- they’re publicising his abuse of her. And people are laughing.

What the actual fuck needs to happen for people to recognise abuse when they see it?

I do understand abuse thanks, having left an abusive marriage. The last thing I would have ever done would be to take part in an interview blatantly showing me being abused, and there's no way an abusive man would want that either.

Really? You can't see a man finding that to be an exciting part of the control he has?

Some of them are really arrogant though. They convince you that it's not abuse and think they can easily convince the world too. They also like to tell you that 'everyone' thinks something about you so this article would make it easy for him to say 'everyone knows you are ok with it, you even spoke to the press about how we decided it together'.

Just because you (think) you would never so something, doesnt mean that under abuse you wouldn't be railroaded into it. I bet before you met him you thought you would never stay with an abusive man too. And that happened.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 26/02/2021 14:28

Also FWIW when I was ready to finally leave my abusive partner I wanted people to see what he was like so that when I left I could say he was abusive and people would say “I know” rather than “really?” So I invited a friend couple round knowing he would get drunk and mildly abusive and they would see it. He did and they did. I left him the next day. Others still needed convincing Hmm

Jesus Christ.

And to post pictures of how he's injured her too. He knows this will be allowed to happen.

She looks like one of those real feel adult dolls.

Smile. Look ahead and smile. Don't think. Just smile and it'll be over soon.

That is exactly what this image looks like! Thank you for putting that into words.

I think there's a difference between having been abused and understanding abuse actually. I've been abused and hope that with the benefit of a lot of thought, I understand and recognise abusive behaviour. This is abuse.

Oh I despair that posters think of she’s submitting she’s fine, she used to leave, she tried to say no, he made her it’s LITERALLY THERE IN PRINT.

I give up. Has anyone complained to the lad bible author??

StillFemale · 26/02/2021 14:49

Also it’s her that is getting injured by the chains, begs the question what he is doing when there’s no one else around

PotholeParadies · 26/02/2021 14:49

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck
...

We don't even have any quotes from her claiming he isn't abusive. His own words condemn him. If that's how he puts it when he puts his side of the story, then how would her best friend describe it?

How would she describe it? Especially, how would she describe it if he couldn't overhear? Oh wait, we can't know, because he's chained her to him. She can't even get medical treatment without him being right there. This is infringing on her right to medical confidentiality.

It's horrific.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2021 14:50

When she was getting those wounds addressed didn't a nurse or doctor say, "we need to talk to her alone, we'll be fetching a welder"? Basic healthcare you need to talk to her alone.

Even bloody noise cancelling headphones!

I wondered this. The article says the ulcers are caused by her skin being in contact with the metal for so long. No mention of his skin being affected in the same way. Could it be the ulcers are from the chains being pulled forcefully?

Agree wrt the medical care. That’s how abuse is spotted and it’s the one chance for a victim to ask for help in private. She isn’t even able to do this.

BiscuitSewingTin · 26/02/2021 14:54

She looks chilled because those are photos taken and submitted by them. An abuser is not going to let her take or submit photos that make him look bad.

The woman might also be under the impressions that her prior objections were because she is the one being unreasonable and so she is making an effort to seem happy and not be a nag.

Loopyloututu2 · 26/02/2021 14:59

That’s horrific. What country are they in? Why isn’t someone going to rescue her? That ulcer on her wrist looks like it needs treatment.

She looks so young. The second photo is just as chilling - the way he has his arm slung possessively around her and that sneer on his face.

How is she going to prevent it from happening? If he decides that the interview will take place then she is going to have to go along - especially as he is the one who can drive the car; she can't. Reading the article, this was his idea and she didn't want it to happen at first so he persuaded her to do it.

He's carefully making sure it's written as though she has consented to it after he talked her into. For all we know she might have 'consented' through fear or after him making threats.

Not all abusive marriages are the same, because you weren't forced into the situation she is in doesnt mean she wasn't.

Erkrie · 26/02/2021 15:02

That is appalling.

PotholeParadies · 26/02/2021 15:05

It's in the Ukraine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2021 15:07

@PotholeParadies

It's in the Ukraine.
The authorities are pretty pro-DV in the former USSR so I wouldn't even trust someone to help if I was getting my wounds treated and said, "please don't let me leave with him". Russia is dreadful and I suppose Ukraine isn't far behind.
Viviennemary · 26/02/2021 15:19

Sounds like a publicity stunt to me.

Oh, do you think they just put the chains on for the photos? And the ulcers?

Those ulcers are quite some stunt that's for sure.

🙄

NotMeekNotObedient · 26/02/2021 15:25

Awful. Any partner who let's their partner sustain injuries like this is clearly abusive. Welded together is just horrific.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/02/2021 15:25

This is awful. I was also going to say that she looks like a dummy, a live doll in the photo in the car. She looks anything but relaxed. He’s holding a baton behind her head whilst she’s reading her phone, isn’t he?
