Why is celebrating that a maternity law will use the word mother rather than person who gives birth (or whatever) taken as a glee at doing one over on trans women?
My only guess is that it shows what we all suspected was correct.
That the changes in language are nothing to do inclusion of with trans men. They are to do with not reminding trans women that words like female, woman, mother, are not 'social roles' to do with make up, frocks, giggling etc. But are to do with our biology, which is what they have always meant. And that they are important as our biology is why we have always been, and to a greater or lesser extent continue to be, discriminated against and oppressed, all over the world.
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Why was Cashman (and the angry poster) not remotely bothered about the (perceived) exclusion of transmen? He focused instantly and only on tw.
If he was a trans ally, surely he is an ally to tw and tm?
I just have to say, I am so happy and relieved that this has happened. The day seemed even sunnier today. The noble Baronesses were utterly awesome and the noble Lords fantastic too.
I shall get writing tomorrow to thank these people for standing up for what is right.
I did look on the BBC website - nothing - they have lost my support totally.
