Please save the date! This is such an important hearing for freedom of speech, particularly around the issues of sex and gender.

The hearing will be for 1 1/2 days some time between 8-10 March, we don't have an exact listing yet.

And the lot of it started, of course, in defense of a cop who was a supporter of far right extremists such as Tommy Robinson, Harry Miller.

I don't like, or agree with, any of those tweets but they don't say what you claim they're saying.

Be more honest in your arguments if you want to win people over to your point of view.

In light of We Are Fair Cop and Sarah Philimore specifically comparing LGBTQ+ people to Nazi's and telling a Jewish man he was responsible for the next Holocaust to the shame of his murdered family, is this still what you support?

funny how no one ever refers to how that conversation started isn't it? The anonymous person I was in conversation with boasted that he was burning JKR's books. I responded with the famous quote 'where they burn books they will burn people' and the conversation went from there.

I did not say he 'was responsible for the next Holocaust'. I said that he was taking steps down a road that would lead to something like it. And that his responses to those who challenged him were abusive and dehumanising. Another sign of steps down a particular road.

People do not have to like what I say. They are entitled to find it offensive. But equally they are not compelled to read what I say or engage with me. I do not come to your house and shout at you.

To make 'offence' the arbiter of what can or cannot be said is extremely dangerous - as we are all seeing. Harry Miller's case is about the right to be offensive. Because without offensive speech we are simply in thrall to whatever group has the most power at any particular time. Fine if you are happy with what the powerful group say. Not so fine if you don't.

Will definitely be tuning in.

I think this is significant - Fair Cop appeal has been deemed 'high profile and legally significant' so will be live streamed by the Court of Appeal at 2pm on March 9th.
