50:50 Parliament Campaign to Encourage Women in Politics now have TWO Transwomen on the Panel

I saw 50:50 women tweet to Sue Pascoe Chair of the Conservative Women’s Organisation some time ago on their #askhertostand, but then I couldn’t find the tweet and thought maybe they’d realised their mistake (can you guess?) and deleted it.

However, how wrong I was! There are now two people that have extremely limited ‘lived experience’ as a female (Sue was a married father and successful businessman and Master to Foxhounds until a few years ago). The other person has said hi on here recently.

I don’t mean to be rude but surely the whole point of encouraging women to stand for Parliament is to help overcome the barriers women face in entering politics. Any barriers that trans people face are rather different. It is also interesting that on a panel of three for their ‘Encouraging LGBT+ Women to Stand’ campaign, there us only one person with actual lived experience of being a woman (I am hoping that Mandu Reid of the WEP was born female at least...??)

But, HOW can any politician, let alone entire parties, honestly believe that sex is not an issue when we have two women murdered every single week - and FIVE during lockdown.

The dead women keep piling up. Week in, week out. No outrage, no campaign, no hate crime, nothing from our elected representatives, apart from taking away our single sex spaces for the most traumatised women and preventing our fair representation in the system.

I often wonder what might happen if we had two dead transwomen every week. I bet there would at least be a hashtag.

How can any one go into public office and not just DO something about the violence meted out against women and girls by men? It's beyond me.

It's terrifying to see how little we seem to matter.

I also hope someone is archiving.

Sal Brinton of the LibDems said at a Fawcett / 50:50 event ages ago that a single-sex parliament would be fine as long as the genders were sufficiently mixed.

She did, and most of the panel of all female politicians (amazingly) nodded along.

Great Post ANewCreation. I did a lot of debating at school too. When I was at Cambridge it never occurred to me to go near the Union; I knew it was an old boys club where I'd feel deeply uncomfortable.

And "bimbo pills" seems to be a common term. I don't know if it's better or worse than the alternative ("titty skittles ").

I believe it is in the public interest to post this here. Here are some extracts from the LD Parliamentary Candidate's Code of Conduct (Sept 2020 edition). If anyone can see any issues here and wishes to make a complaint about any thing, I think you would reasonably quote this.

And finally.

Of course, its not up to me to make that judgment but if you think you see anything from a Parliamentary Candidate that might bring the Liberal Democrats into disrepute or even risks bringing them into disrepute thenits the fault of those individual candidates and its up to them behave in an appropriate manner.

Some people are just teflon.

MichelleofzeResistance · 17/02/2021 13:10

You might expect that someone who wishes to politically represent women would listen to their concerns and issues and show some engagement and care to represent all views of women as opposed to inevitably making a speech that sounds very like lyrics out of the Greatest Showman. However brave and bruised you might be, it's not the point. The point is political representation for women that actually works for all women. And a responsibility to honestly and impartially respond to and represent all as part of your role rather than selectively choose from the bits that support a personal agenda.

I was thinking about this and thinking "don't the lib dems ever do due diligence on the people rising up their party?"

Then I remembered Aimee Challenor and thought "duh, course they fucking don't do due diligence."

I personally messaged one senior LD about Aimee Challenor saying they were going to have issues and to investigate properly. I had a conversation with the same LD about the complaints system and bullying in the party (which they freely admitted to me was a problem).

Nothing was done.

Then not long after the shit hit the fan with Challenor.

It was inevitable.

As I say, liabilities. Its a gift to other parties. I wouldn't be surprised if there is someone paid by the Tory party to dig up shit like this, even if its not the newspapers.

I wonder if the LibDem ‘due diligence’ consists of Layla Moran inspecting people’s souls?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 13:27

I think that's probably enough, Empress! She should give some training to the DIsclosure and Barring Service, save a bit of cash, wouldn't it?

Grin that would explain a lot!

You know, I would never consider entering politics, even local politics, because of bollocks like this. It would seem like an invitation to be abused by the aggressively unhinged. How frigging ironic.
