50:50 Parliament Campaign to Encourage Women in Politics now have TWO Transwomen on the Panel

I saw 50:50 women tweet to Sue Pascoe Chair of the Conservative Women’s Organisation some time ago on their #askhertostand, but then I couldn’t find the tweet and thought maybe they’d realised their mistake (can you guess?) and deleted it.

However, how wrong I was! There are now two people that have extremely limited ‘lived experience’ as a female (Sue was a married father and successful businessman and Master to Foxhounds until a few years ago). The other person has said hi on here recently.

I don’t mean to be rude but surely the whole point of encouraging women to stand for Parliament is to help overcome the barriers women face in entering politics. Any barriers that trans people face are rather different. It is also interesting that on a panel of three for their ‘Encouraging LGBT+ Women to Stand’ campaign, there us only one person with actual lived experience of being a woman (I am hoping that Mandu Reid of the WEP was born female at least...??)

RobinMoiraWhite ...Folks seem to find an hour hearing from me and asking questions not a total bore

This is not fu*king entertainment to women although it would appear it is to you Angry

gardenbird48 · 15/02/2021 22:24

@TheBuffster

So correct me if I am wrong, but this means the conservatives have swallowed twaw and effectively I have no one to vote for and my only choice is to destroy my ballot.

That noise you hear is Emmeline Pankhurst turning in her grave.

only some of them - there are still quite a number who recognise women. Sue is only Women's Chair in West Yorkshire (or similar).

There is also an excellent group called Conservatives for Women who are properly campaigning for women's rights.

Conservatives are a thin line of defence but an existing one. I think there is quite a lot of conversation going on and obviously the wonderful Baroness Nicholson is a Conservative Peer.

The last thing I need is yet more blowhard members of the hugely overrepresented opposite sex to me telling my sex what we need to do to get proportional representation. Whilst occupying a place that should be reserved for a member of my sex.

If they want the female sex to be represented proportionately, perhaps don't take any places intended for our sex. Or nouns, or pronouns for that matter. Or actually, anything.

It's really not, oh, how do MNHQ put it?
"Not in the spirit"

Quite, Barracker

sanluca · 15/02/2021 22:26

So basically Robin, it is all about you and not what you could do to help women... got it.

RobinMoiraWhite · 15/02/2021 22:26

@StillWeRise

How many mtf transitioners have taken time out of the workplace for maternity leave? How many mtf transitioners have worked part time for years to care for little children and then struggled to get their careers back on track further down the line?

Mtf transitioners and women do not have the same obstacles when it comes to careers - not in the slightest.

this x1000

really, what does a male born person have to offer here? I mean really, what? They can have no idea whatsoever what issues women face.

I find this type of post astonishing.

We all face different difficulties. We can learn from each other - as I try to every day. To say that I have ‘no idea’ about your particular difficulties suggests that I have spent the last 5 plus decades with my eyes shut and my hands over my ears.

As it happens, I haven’t.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/02/2021 22:29

I find the entirety of trans ideology, and how gullible these women's groups are who appoint themselves to speak for us, and how willing they are to throw other women under the bus, astonishing.

OvaHere · 15/02/2021 22:30

As it happens, I haven’t.

Having watched the parliamentary select committee session you were part of I very much dispute that.

TheBuffster · 15/02/2021 22:31

But however open eyed you are nothing qualifies you better than a woman to represent women.
Just as men who listen aren't the same as having women's voices heard.

Think about it. Would you take a bame spot because you've read White Fragility?

I don't care how versed someone is in others. We need proper representation or we may as well just be taking orders from a load of Eton blokes.

Oh wait...

I don't think women need to hear a male-born person mansplaining to them about the sort of difficulties they face.

We all face different difficulties.

Exactly. Your difficulties will not have been faced by women - do you think I (straight white natal female) could adequately represent your experiences? My difficulties will not have been faced by you. You cannot speak on my behalf.

Montespan · 15/02/2021 22:34

What sort of male wants to take a woman’s place? What sort of male wants to stop women being represented by other women? Any decent and honest man I know would be appalled by the suggestion. Would admit his struggles are not women’s and that the whole point of increasing women’s representation is to represent ....women and their own struggles. Not his.

It rather reminds me of that ghastly photo of a young male bodied person addressing an American political rally with an obvious erection poking through his dress.

TheBuffster · 15/02/2021 22:35

YY @OldCrone

@gardenbird48 so do you think voting conservative would be better than voting for a GC labour candidate like Rosie Duffield?

Maladicta · 15/02/2021 22:36

Funnily enough there are a lot of difficulties us pesky biological women share, which form the basis of our oppression, of which you have zero experience.

TinselAngel · 15/02/2021 22:36

We can learn from each other

It's a no from me.

JulesJules · 15/02/2021 22:37

And it's a no from me

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/02/2021 22:44

It's a no from me too.

@RobinMoiraWhite - do you not see the irony in you accepting this post?

I don't think women need to hear a male-born person mansplaining to them about the sort of difficulties they face.

My view is that we all need to listen to each other to understand how we can make progress together.

I appreciate that isn’t your view.

Delphinium20 · 15/02/2021 22:49

Plenty of white people have very close ties to Black people via family, relationships, upbringing, work, culture and community. And I'm sure many of them genuinely care and actively listen to the Black people in their lives and may have a very upfront understanding of Black-specific experiences. Imagine then, at a political forum on say a topic like racism or Black history in Europe, a white person stands up and claims they can speak FOR and INSTEAD of Black people on this topic, all while being asked to be ACCEPTED as Black. There would be an (very righteous IMO) uproar of anger at this scenario.

WeAreJackieWeaver · 15/02/2021 22:51

Robin you have no idea what women go through. Even your experiences in the past 10 years cannot be parallel to a woman of the similar age.
Even my husband of the last 20 years has no idea just how hard been for me as a woman in this world is, certainly after having children and now entering menopause.
And likewise, I have no idea what challenges you have/are facing.

TheBuffster · 15/02/2021 22:52

Start listening then.

titchy · 15/02/2021 22:54

My view is that we all need to listen to each other to understand how we can make progress together.

But you're not listening to women are you? What do you understand of the oppression natal women face?
