Solidarity in Aldi today!

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

Hooray!! That's great OP.

I'm an ex secondary teacher. Totally GC, as are those of my teacher friends with whom I've discussed it. There was a massive woke bro TRA in my last school though, who was TWAW and "terfs are scum". Angry

Nailingthis · 13/02/2021 19:24

I am intrigued by all of this and off to educate myself as I am unaware of the bag

NancyDrawed · 13/02/2021 19:24

I wore the hoody to a choir rehearsal once and was surprised when the choirmaster's partner pointed at it and gave me a thumbs up and then later asked me where it was from.

I am gender critical in that I think trying to make people fit into societal expectations of how they should behave based on their sex is wrong. There are 2 sexes, male and female. How you choose to behave and present yourself has nothing to do with whether you are male or female.

ForFiveMinutes · 13/02/2021 19:24

Another GC teacher here, with a supply of the Women stickers in my handbag for when I have to use a public toilet.

nailsathome · 13/02/2021 19:26

GC secondary science teacher here. Totally accepting of anyone can be/wear/behave however they please but chromosomes are chromosomes!

gardenbird48 · 13/02/2021 19:27

@Carouselfish

Secondary teacher too.

In the staff room all my department are eye rollingly gc.

We taught a whole scheme on stereotyping, stereotypical gender roles etc with outcome that y7 are now very 'you can be a boy or girl without conforming'. Hooray!
Also taught few lessons on media bias and how to know if websites and news was reliable. Teach critical thinking, looking at both sides of an argument and hope for the best!

I wish that was my kids school. I was told that if my daughter was uncomfortable sharing a changing room with a boy who identified as female she would be told to go and fine somewhere else to change and the head of PSHE was facilitating the social transitioning of a child without the consent (and possibly knowledge) of the parents. If a child makes a social transition, it can set them on a path towards medical treatment etc. and make it harder for them to publicly reverse their 'transition'. It is a worry and a safeguarding concern.

I'm definitely going to buy one of those bags - I love a good bag.

HipTightOnions · 13/02/2021 19:29

I thought all teachers were firmly signed up to the twaw dogma.

Oh God no, very few.

See I’m not finding this though. I think very few of my colleagues have given it any real thought and have simply accepted/assumed there must be something in it. They are clearly nervous when I raise the subject, and I have met real (and sometimes unpleasant) resistance when I have challenged what’s being taught.

EvelynBeatrice · 13/02/2021 19:29

“”Woman” means a female of any age” : Section 212 Equality Act 2010.
It would be good if someone put this on a T-shirt. I fail to see how anyone could take umbrage at a statutory definition.

SophocIestheFox · 13/02/2021 19:33

Love it- adult human female meet-cute in Aldi ♥️😀

I am so hoping your fellow viper sees this. Imagine the trouble you could foment over the aisle of crap! (does Aldi have that? I’m a Lidl shopper so clueless)

RestlessMillennial · 13/02/2021 19:33

I would love to wear a Adult Human Female t shirt, but I would worry about being physically attacked tbh in the current climate Sad
Good to see solidarity in all forms though

Libraryghost · 13/02/2021 19:33

Thanks for this. I have just found the bag and will buy when it’s back in stock. I too work for an increasingly ‘woke’ company. We have a man who wears a cheap tarty wig from amazon on the days he wants to be a woman. Other days he identifies as a male. . He is gender fluid apparently. In fact he is a nice bloke but clearly needs help but will all have to act like it’s perfectly normal.

theskyispink · 13/02/2021 19:35

Love this!

tentative3 · 13/02/2021 19:35

I love this. I am not 'out'. The women's branch of my union deleted a social media post on their page just yesterday because 'mis gendering is hate speech' and honestly, the comment that came before the deletion were respectful and not confrontational (over a picture of Fallon Fox and opponent).

I can't afford to have my union and my company potentially going after me for hate speech. I hate that I can't.

NancyDrawed · 13/02/2021 19:37

I suppose that with a bag, you could have the written definition facing inwards if you felt uncomfortable. A bit more difficult if you are wearing it, though!

Palindromic · 13/02/2021 19:38

Secondary SLT - my colleagues know my views and many agree with them. Was pretty appalled when one of our science teachers told me about an amazing lesson she’d taught focusing on an article that described biological sex as a spectrum. I guess every group is a mixed ability group!

Palindromic · 13/02/2021 19:38

Just ordered the T-shirt!

impostersyndrome · 13/02/2021 19:38

@HeronLanyon

I’ve just ‘come out’ at work having been asked to have a ‘preferred pronoun’ start to a meeting I’m running shortly. Part of wider policies including emails etc. All kicking off. I will not be doing so but if someone else wishes to then won’t be joining in. Previous threads here invaluable for approaches but tbh if this is the hill my career dies on, so be it. Lovely aldi moment op.
How did you respond, @HeronLanyon? I recently was invited to a seminar that had a sign up page that wouldn’t let me progress beyond the preferred pronouns stage in order to register. No idea what I would have said. Just declined (wimp).
nailsathome · 13/02/2021 19:39

@Palindromic that's awful of a science teacher to do that! I am actually shocked!!

PegasusReturns · 13/02/2021 19:43

Brilliant.

I had a similar moment a few weeks back. It was fab Smile

donquixotedelamancha · 13/02/2021 19:44

WTAF? I would fucking roast a Science colleague who did that. It not better than teaching a lesson about how 'evolution is just a theory'.

ValancyRedfern · 13/02/2021 19:44

I think schools vary wildly. Mine is pretty sensible, although I've complained about a couple of resources in Pshe. Meanwhile another school I went to interbiew at during the GRA consultation had Stonewall posters up telling the kids how to fill it in. I can't imagine any other circumstance where a school would engage in political lobbying of their students.

My DH has various things on red bubble (all related to cult tv/films) but I've suggested this to him

I'd say it's worse. Not understanding evolution probably won't materially affect someone's life to any significant degree. Buying into 'gender is a spectrum' rot could lead to a kid thinking they can 'change sex', a pathway of medical and surgical interventions and sterility. It has consequences.

peak2021 · 13/02/2021 19:52

Thank you OP for sharing this and it is lovely that you had the opportunity to speak with the woman in the queue to make both your day better.

I did like the other side of the bag as well 'identifies as a basket' and the I/me/mine t-shirt.
