Solidarity in Aldi today!

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

Oh wow! I would have been thrilled too OP GrinI'm so chuffed for you!

I would love a bag like that but I'm ashamed to say I'd be nervous of any backlash too especially if I bumped into someone from work (I work in a school).

I would bloody love to march right now though ...

JaneyHenderson · 13/02/2021 18:54

@Boudicabooandbulldogs

Not been on here in a while, glad I decided to have a look today, am now going to buy one of those bags or the t-shirts. I’m another teacher, wonder how many of us that are conditioned into not being able to speak about this at work. Perhaps we could all buy the bags/t-shirts.
I don't actually think anyone at my school would notice/ be aware of I had the bag. Might try it.

I’ve just ‘come out’ at work having been asked to have a ‘preferred pronoun’ start to a meeting I’m running shortly. Part of wider policies including emails etc. All kicking off. I will not be doing so but if someone else wishes to then won’t be joining in. Previous threads here invaluable for approaches but tbh if this is the hill my career dies on, so be it.
Lovely aldi moment op.

@SingingLoud

I have the t/shirt, white with gold foil writing. I wore it out to a local cafe last year, we were queuing outside, at the door we were the next ones to go in, and a woman leaving the cafe with two teenagers pointed at my chest and said “yes” really loudly and gave me the thumbs up as she walked past. We were both wearing masks but both grinning like maniacs, I could tell by her eyes. Grin
This is excellent! I'd be flippin buzzing!
Boudicabooandbulldogs · 13/02/2021 18:55

Weary with teens
It’s actually quite sad that there appears to be quite a few teachers who feel like they have to be some sort of underground movement, like you say when it’s just about facts and biology.

Riapia · 13/02/2021 18:55

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight

I wish I saw one in public- I’d feel the same as you! I don’t know anyone really GC like me but most of the women at work (school) are naturally quite gender critical, even if they haven’t connected the dots. I daren’t wear one because of my teens, ridiculous I know but we can’t discuss it anymore.
Daren’t wear one because of your teens. This is exactly why you should wear one.
HipTightOnions · 13/02/2021 18:56

I have never discussed it at work and likely never will. I would like to look in depth at the PSHE curriculum but I would be unable to keep my mouth shut

I wish you would/could. The more of us who speak up the better - they can’t sack us all!

HipTightOnions · 13/02/2021 18:57

tbh if this is the hill my career dies on, so be it.

I’m at that point too. Good luck!

Benjispruce2 · 13/02/2021 18:57

I don’t get this.Confused

Benjispruce2 · 13/02/2021 18:57

What are GC views?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2021 18:58

It's actually quite a good thing that people may not 'get it' - after all, it's what should be a completely uncontroversial dictionary definition. It is completely uncontroversial and obvious to most people.

woman: adult human female.

Simple and sufficient.

It's more the potential backlash if someone did notice and google or similar. Judging from the PPs asking what it means, it seems like it's not well known enough to cause an issue.

If I didn't have 3 dependent DC and a massive fucking mortgage, I would!

Sounds lovely. I’d love to do some stickering for similar reasons, but it’ll have to wait for lockdown to end. Wonder how many of us there are.

Benjispruce2 · 13/02/2021 19:02

Is anyone going to explain?

JaneyHenderson · 13/02/2021 19:03

@Benjispruce2

Is anyone going to explain?
There is a video link up thread which explains it⬆️

Hi all, I'm quite new to this. I have a question which I think might be stupid or obvious but I'm not sure ?
I think I'm GC in theory but I do wear mainly women's clothing and I suppose I follow the gender norms associated with being a woman.
Does this make me GC, are you all GC If you wear mascara, flowers dresses, do the childcare at home etc ? Hope this makes sense x

Do those clothes or roles make you a woman or are you a woman who happens to wear certain clothes? If you wear trousers and go to work, do you stop being a woman?
MoodyMarshall · 13/02/2021 19:07

@MrDarcysMa

Welcome! Me too, I look 'girly' for want of a better word. But I don't have a gender and am firmly GC. The whole point is: you can look/act/dress however you like, but it doesn't change your sex.

ArabellaScott · 13/02/2021 19:07

@Wearywithteens

What warms my cockles more is that you’re both teachers - and secondary! I thought all teachers were firmly signed up to the twaw dogma. Brilliant share - thanks OP.
None of the ones I know as friends/family. Smile
Bouledeneige · 13/02/2021 19:08

I'd love to see one in real life. It is like being in the resistance - I've come out to a few friends and been relieved to find those that feel strongly about it too. There's quite a lot of us.
