Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Solidarity in Aldi today!

JaneyHenderson · 13/02/2021 18:08

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

Sorry just seen this. There are many, all about what Scotgov are doing to womens rights and with website Forwomen.scot to find out more The one I posted says 'Scotgov believes that people with penises should be allowed to shower and change with teenage girls Do you?'

@Daughterofmabel

gardenbird48 I find wearing a mask and baseball cap works really well! 'Peel, palm, place'
I just go for the boring middle aged woman look, neutral colours, usually with a hood or hat, & I’m instantly invisible Grin

I feel like I should bring my AHF t-shirt and hoodie out of retirement. I live somewhere very T friendly so have had some dodgy looks (though no dodgy comments) when wearing it out and about in the past and got a bit scribbly about it. I’m inspired by JaneyHenderson to start being bold again. I probably should finally buy the tote bag for myself rather than as a gift for others.

I still sometimes wear the fuck kind shirt, more so since I stopped wearing a cross body bag that would cover the asterisk and make it look like fuck was there in full Grin - much as I am incredibly Sweary in real life I actually disapprove slightly of swear words written on clothing.

LimpLettice · 14/02/2021 17:38

I recognised and connected with Maya Forstater coz of her AHF hoodie. So heartening to see them out and about. I've seen a few TW have a penis stickers not planted by me, too, which made my week Smile

Thank you @Daughterofmabel.

I was in the women’s toilets in an East London pub I’d never been to before & suddenly spotted an AHF sticker. It made my day.

If we're on the subject of T-shirts, I love this one:

This made me smile, thanks OP. I'm gradually working up to outing myself as GC in real life, I'm now thinking a bag could be the perfect next step!

Thanks for the links Sunset

I find all the terms confusing because they are all so loaded. I’m guessing I would be a TERF because I would exclude born males from woman only spaces. I’m not sure that makes me radical though. I’m guessing TERF is used by “their” side rather than ours?

I like the idea of the definition of woman T shirts but how do they actually help when some men say they feel like a female ? Why isn’t more said about separating gender from sex? I mean that benefits us all. I’d love not to be waxing my tash every three days and I’d certainly like not to have my worth as a woman judged on it.
If you have XY chromosomes, it matters not one jot if you have hormones or remove your penis. For the purposes of medicine at least you can only ever be male? If you still have a penis then no one should be calling you a woman.

Yes, it's used by trans-activists as a slur tho I understand it originated in a group of feminists and some gc ppl use it about themselves as a way of defusing the slur. I'm not sure what a 'radical' feminist is but I'm pretty sure I'm not one - I just really detest being gaslighted and bullied.

They can say they feel anything they like, but they'll never meet the definition. If you've got a Gender Recognition Certificate, you're allowed to have your birth certificate changed so it says you were born female not male! (doesn't change your biology tho..)

I've just a horrible feeling it won't be long before this thread is pulled...

Mockolate · 14/02/2021 18:59

“I like the idea of the definition of woman T shirts but how do they actually help when some men say they feel like a female ?”

They don't.
Because they're a t-shirt that says I'm a woman and you're not, and people seem to like wearing them out to tell others that and also to solidarity with each other when out and about if they see like minded people.

Perhaps. But look at how many eyes are newly opened.
Rockinmomma · 14/02/2021 19:08

I’ve been looking at the t shirts for ages and just bought one thanks to the solidarity I’ve seen here, thanks ladies!
Seriously considering coming out as GC on fb, only a small group of friends and I’m not bothered what anyone thinks of me either

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/02/2021 19:14

It means radical in the sense of 'at the root of', not in the sense of 'extreme'. We're not the paramilitary wing of the women's rights movement Wink

Radical feminists believe that women (and children and many men) suffer because society is fundamentally set up in a way that gives men power over women.

EachandEveryone · 14/02/2021 19:16

Nursing is just as bed you absolutely have to watch every word even though the majority of us are women and spen all our shifts supporting other women who are only in hospital doing what only a woman can naturally do 😃

EachandEveryone · 14/02/2021 19:16

I will get the bag, though.
