Story released today quotes Izzard as saying they have both girl and boy genetics? What the actual hell? I'm lost for words. What fantasy planet are they living on? Hope no-one, especially children, reading this actually believes this is possible.

@iguanadonna

The gender clinics used to do karyotype tests and other investigations to see if their clients had a higher rate of chromosomal abnormalities or intersex conditions. But they didn't. So they stopped testing, because intrusive and not useful. People don't identify as trans because there's anything unusual in their chromosomal make up.
Yes- I'd heard this too. Similar rates to the general population
Thingybob · 02/02/2021 00:40

@EdgeOfACoin

I don't think Izzard is well. I genuinely have concerns for Izzard.
I agree, Eddie has said some very strange things recent interviews
BraveBananaBadge · 04/02/2021 12:59

Back in boy mode for the next acting role as "Harry, a small town lawyer... who has been like a father figure over the years".

Series is about characters with dark secrets so guess there could be a trans angle yet, but it shows up everyone falling over themselves to resort to 'she' recently when, as Eddie has already said, either pronoun is fine...

I guess there aren't too many parts for menopausal women girls of EI's age.

MedusasBrandyButter · 04/02/2021 13:12

This is like claiming to be Napoleon AND Cleopatra, and having people argue that you can't be both.

He's a comedian, for goodness sake. He's just saying random stuff, and there's absolutely no need to do anything but be entertained, or bored. It's not as though he's Chris Whitty or someone on whom we need to depend, is it? He's just a comedian (albeit with political ambitions).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/02/2021 13:36

@UrsulaVdL

Yes it’s true, the X chromosome from his mother and the Y chromosome from his Dad. Get with the Programme bitches😂
Oh Grin That and your user name Star
wellthatsunusual · 04/02/2021 13:38

Izzard certainly seems to have dickhead genetics...

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 04/02/2021 13:55

Wow, that is some disappointing plot losing BS right there.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 04/02/2021 14:13

Well at least EI's potential constituents will have a heads up as to what sorts of ideas run through his head and will decide if he's competent to hold office and vote accordingly.

SuperSange · 04/02/2021 14:14

I was so angry seeing him doing those marathons (I hadn't realised him on Insta). Full face of make up and a long blond ponytail? Fuck off, it's not a costume.

Sorry it's the Daily Fail, but Izzard does seem to have said this in the interview.

That piece - honestly! The bloody cheek. Eddie writes that minorities have to work extra hard to get anything and Eddie wants people to say ‘well, we won’t get that white male to do this, we’ll get that other person who’s working their backside off just to get through the glass ceiling’.

Am I just being really dense, but what’s to stop a white male self-identifying as a minority group and taking the slot that was intended for the person born into that minority group??? White males can scoop up everything in this world view - including Eddie Izzard him/herself (pronouns depending on whether its a boy or girl mode period for Eddie). Let's see what happens with the selection to a Labour safe seat that Eddie seems to have Eddie's eye on.

fakenina · 04/02/2021 14:24

@RadandMad

Jesus Christ, to think I once thought Izzard was intelligent. Perhaps he's in the early stages of dementia.
yes, Im wondering if this is a possibility?
CranberriesChoccyAgain · 04/02/2021 14:27

People seem to grasp that self-id doesn't apply to ethnicity (if that's what you meant by minority group). Why the same people suddenly pretend that biological sex isn't an equal but different reality to race is quite baffling.

yes, just a commedian, who is eroding womans rights. and who will probably be elected to parliment at some not too distant point. probably in the place of a woman. so excuse us if we do take it quite seriously, even if they are a joke.
FinalSongbird · 04/02/2021 14:43

Well, Sam Smith said that they have a women's thighs and breasts and I really think that needs further investigation. Are they in the freezer? 😬

MedusasBrandyButter · 04/02/2021 15:22

@fakenina oh, I do take it seriously, especially the kite-flying about an all-women shortlist. It was more of a rant against the prats who are gushing about him in articles...

The more Eddie speaks the more Eddie sounds like Eddie has lost the plot and is rewriting history. (Or should it be herstory, don’t want to mis-gender).

HerselfIndoors · 04/02/2021 15:42

Regarding race, race is much more of a "spectrum" than sex is and absolutely not a binary. You have more genetically in common with another human of your own sex, whatever their race, then with the opposite sex.

And yet TRA arguments include that biological sex isn't real, sex is a spectrum and isn't binary. While these things don't apply to sex, they do apply to race yet it's not OK to identify as black if you're white. And they can understand why a white person identifying as black, having operations and treatments to mimic a black body, and adopting cultural stereotypes associated with black people, would be horrendously offensive. How about if you then threatened black people and hounded them out of their jobs for being bigots, if they didn't agree with you that you were black? I'm guessing that wouldn't be on. But it's OK for women?

No TRA, trans person or trans ally has ever bee able to explain this to me despite me asking.

dumpling23 · 04/02/2021 15:54

Agreed @HerselfIndoors. Sex is obviously binary where race is not - it's a far more fluid and undefined category with no proper boundaries at all. YET - if people self-identify as being of a race they clearly don't really belong to this is considered to be A VERY BAD THING. Yet when men identify as a sex they most obviously are not, it's stunning and brave and we're supposed to celebrate. I don't get it. I just don't understand why people can't see the inconsistency. I'm also starting to feel very aggravated about the whole thing.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 04/02/2021 16:01

@dumpling23
@HerselfIndoors

Sorry, yes, I agree that it's not binary and many people can be mixed race, but that identifying as belonging to a race that you clearly are not and then appropriating their spaces and culture is agreed by most people to be offensive.

HerselfIndoors · 04/02/2021 16:02

I think they can see the inconsistency, or most can, which is one reason why they insist on "No Debate!" and scorn, sneer at, threaten or bully those who have questions. Because they can't answer the questions.

The "non-binary" TRA in my family just refused to answer when asked this. They initially said "because race isn't the same as gender". I pointed out I hadn't said race was gender, I'd said race is comparable to sex, not gender. They said they'd get back to me and never did. They don't have an argument.

HerselfIndoors · 04/02/2021 16:04

Cranberries I'm with you, I absolutely don't think it's OK to identify as another race, and most of all a historically persecuted race and then claim prizes, places etc that are reserved for them.

My point is just that if that's not OK, as it's clearly not, then it shouldn't be OK for sex, because race is less defined and more of a spectrum - the very arguments that TRAs use in favour of trans ideology.

dumpling23 · 04/02/2021 16:13

Yes likewise - I didn't mean for a moment to suggest that identifying as another race was fine because - hey, race isn't properly defined anyway. Far from it. I totally get that it's offensive and I understand why. My point is why - given this - is a male identifying as female A-OK? And it's doubly absurd because sex - unlike race - is a category with clearly identifiable boundaries.

LongDistanceClaret · 04/02/2021 16:19

Does anyone ever think back to what life was like in, say, 2005 when before social media, nobody would know what Eddie thought about his chromosomes or desired pronouns. Unless he was interviewed or talked about in in his stand up. Either way, the audience would be so much smaller. Social media seems to feed those who crave attention. Man, I long for those simpler times.

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 04/02/2021 16:25

@bluebluezoo

I remember finding out about chimerism (?) where the baby’s cells travel through the umbilical cord and remain in the mothers body and it blew my mind last year. Has Eddie’s worked the other way?

It can also result from two fertilised eggs fusing in utero. Or a transplant of some sort.

This also happened to my mum, who has a twin brother - their placentas fused in utero so despite being fraternal twins they ended up with twin to twin transfusion syndrome so she has some of her brothers genetic material in her. Which is all the more fascinating as they have different blood groups.
