Take a drink - another drinks company goes ultra-woke.

That's a really cruel ad. It's a shame as i love Oatly barista, but the Moma barista is just as nice.

NiceGerbil · 31/01/2021 22:30

I query the second summer of love thing as well. Drunk? Erm no. Plenty of drugs, illegal raves etc before it all got mainstreamed.

I also think they've shot themselves in the foot a bit putting this in the print version of the guardian Grin

Justanothercatlady · 31/01/2021 22:36

www.marketingweek.com/oatly-marketing-strategy-advertising/ Not that a marketing agency would cynically manipulate young people for sales, eh?

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2021 22:38

Sanctimonious shite. Could they not make it at least a bit funny?

They will be devastated that you've posted the instructions for how to make it yourself, ihatemyself.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/01/2021 22:49

It's quite funny when companies do this and the result is lots of suggestions for alternatives which are some combination of healthier, cheaper, nicer or greener.Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 31/01/2021 22:52

Thanks for the info about Oato, looks a lot more sustainable than Oatly and Alpro. And probably less likely to lecture me in a patronising manner.

BraveBananaBadge · 31/01/2021 22:56

Way to alienate a customer base there, Oatly. I liked the stuff but am clearly surplus to requirement in their Logan’s Run vision of a dystopian future.

BogForLife · 31/01/2021 22:58

Am I the only one who thinks it is slightly funny and is aimed at adults / parents who are rolling their eyes and that this is the parents ironic take on what their woke youth think of them?

(My woke teen drinks soy milk. I drunk planet-wrecking dairy)

BasiliskStare · 31/01/2021 23:01

Oh @CaraDuneRedux One more here who you made laugh out loud & I too stand with Hashtag Cathy49

I am perfectly capable of reading the ingredients and sustainability of my groceries. As is my son. But - they have got us talking so I suppose to that extent it has worked - brand recognition etc. But - they have pissed me off. Depends whether fewer of me and more who loved that advert I suppose

But - It will be a while before I forget Cathy ( 49) who identifies as getting your fucking laundry down here - Oh I am still giggling - Thank you @CaraDuneRedux

It does come across as a bit ageist & patronising

BingBongSong · 31/01/2021 23:02

@StillWeRise

allow me to recommend Oato which is made with british crops, by a british company, is packaged in reusable glass bottles and can be delivered to your doorstep by a local business. And no enragingly patronising bollocks. I can't vouch for the taste as I haven't tried it yet but friends tell me it's great.
Our milkman delivers this. I used to just buy whichever oat milk was on offer in the supermarket, but haven't looked back since he started!
BasiliskStare · 31/01/2021 23:05

& @ErrolTheDragon - I have to say we are not consumers of Oat milk in this family - but yes - very funny people have been given good alternatives . I suppose they have taken a punt - I hope based on research & if they get more customers than they lose minus the advertising cost - do they care ?

StillWeRise · 31/01/2021 23:07

and you know what, I would never have bothered to tell you all about OATO!!!!!! if it hadn't been for those pesky kids!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 31/01/2021 23:16

Fabulous suggestions for alternatives thank you ever so helpful witches/wise women Grin

visitorfromtheplanetzog · 31/01/2021 23:27

@LucyLockdown

What absolute garbage. Can't believe that a Marketing department actually got paid for putting that offputting patronising, ageist bullshit together.

Good luck getting faux woke teens to buy oat milk ha ha.

Good luck getting teens to read those papers. The Times and the Guardian? lol
LunaHeather · 31/01/2021 23:32

@OhHolyJesus

They had a weird one about climate change too in the Observer today.
Is that the dad one?

I saw it on Twitter, or something similar. I'm not buying a brand that preaches at me. Ironically I'll just buy dairy instead 😂

LiterallyProblematic · 31/01/2021 23:42

It’s annoying isn’t it?! We don’t use cows milk, only oatly. My fridge and pantry are full of the organic and the barista one. Still, there are other brands.

DeaconBoo · 31/01/2021 23:43

God I'm so embarrassed for this company.
Luckily I saw this though, was going to start trying oat milk this month!

Also this is an EXCELLENT example of being kind. Making an ad campaign about how shit parents are when we're, hmmm, in the middle of a global pandemic that has killed many, many, many parents.
How sensitive to the losses of all these people. Parents! Shit eh, only shit people reproduce.

Theowawaynow · 31/01/2021 23:47

Oh good, about time we saw this utter shitshow of a company for who they are. Skin deep ethical values, funded by companies who invest in cluster bombs and deforestation and claim their processed nutritionally deficient, chemically fortified shite is better for the planet and our health than a bottle of natural milk from a farm with high standards and sustainable credentials in the U.K.

Total own goal and I couldn’t be more pleased.

They also part funded the “Eat Lancet” which is the major report telling us all dairy will kill you. Funny that.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/01/2021 23:48

Stupid people. I have a cupboard full of Oatly for my dairy intolerant son. I won’t be buying any more.

Seems to be common theme this week. Nice small company with quirky style gets taken over and in attempt to maintain their previously loveable vibe fall into being offensively ageist, misogynistic or whatever. Well this ageing woman who does all the shopping can choose not to give money to companies who insult her. So Farewell Innocent and Oatly!

Graciebobcat · 31/01/2021 23:51

I only use Twitter for work, but I've never seen anyone, of any age, on any social media, feel like they have to openly declare their pronouns, and that includes DDs and all their friends.

I hope this gets picked up in the mass media and Oatly get absolutely roasted for it, just because it's so utterly embarrassing, ageist and patronising, regardless of the gender wokeness.

The dad ad was in the Telegraph

DeaconBoo · 01/02/2021 00:04

@Deliriumoftheendless

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oatly

Apparently they were cancelled in 2020- info on wiki.

More can be found if you google Oatly controversy.

Gosh. Well until I saw this ad campaign I wouldn't have known that Oatly faced "protests by climate and political activists who say the decision to sell a stake in the company to a consortium that includes Blackstone, a powerful private equity firm headed by Trump donor Stephen Schwartzman, has left a sour taste."

www.theguardian.com/food/2020/sep/01/oatly-vegan-milk-sale-blackstone

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 01/02/2021 00:06

What dickheads.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 01/02/2021 00:13

I think oatly is rank personally. It's the worst for splitting in tea and isn't fortified with B12 like other brands. They're just desperately trying to claw back woke points after the whole Blackstone fiasco. It's so transparent I'm actually cringing for them.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/02/2021 00:14

@Whatwouldscullydo

Whoever does their market research should really look into who it is who does the shopping. Hmm

Exactly.

Who the hell approved this from a marketing perspective?

They are not winning consumers here by slagging off the parents who buy the bloody product and the Guardian newspaper are they?

It's really quite an insulting "quiz" all round in respect of all the questions, not just the one on pronouns.

Bye, bye Oatly from my fridge....
