Wants to be the first transgender MP. Well, good luck - but will Eddie be taking a place on an all-woman shortlist?

I'm afraid Eddie has become a bit of a bore.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2021 11:28

Great. Bring it on. Heartily support Eddie in all Eddie's endeavours.

Winesalot · 31/01/2021 11:31

Well, that is no surprise.

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 31/01/2021 11:33

Eddie has been politically engaged for a long time so standing for election is a natural next step - I was interested in this line though

“I wanted to stand in the last election but a seat wasn’t available – but I am here.”

There are always seats available. Just not high-profile ones that a well-known activist and comedian might want to win.

It used to be that you had to “pay your dues” and stand in a no-hope seat - Tony Blair’s first election was Beaconsfield where he got just shy of 4,000 votes.

Wonder which female Labour politician is going to have step aside in a safe seat to give him a shot? Because we can guarantee it’s not going to be a male politician..

Extra points for the Labour patriarchy if it’s a BAME female politician Sad
Beamur · 31/01/2021 11:49

Not the most eloquent interview I have ever read.
We can't have this separation 'thing' ? What 'thing' is that?
You can't speak to the wider public like they're at one of your gigs.

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 31/01/2021 12:08

Eddie would be better off angling for a Labour peerage. Being an MP isn’t just about campaigning for the big-picture issues like Remain or Leave; it’s about helping parents of children with additional needs get the support they’re entitled to; and it’s about dog shit bins and footpaths, potholes, street lamps, getting families into emergency housing; antisocial behaviour and cutting the ribbon at church fetes.

Excellent. I very much hope that Eddie has lots of high profile media interviews about Eddie's ambitions.

2Rebecca · 31/01/2021 12:34

Labour are welcome to Eddie

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 31/01/2021 12:38

Ah Eddie much sunlight to you my love declaring yourself female will open many eyes but “girl mode” will ensure mouths fall open too Flowers

Also surely people are noticing the “used to id as transvestite” “now girl mode” & wondering what’s changed?

wonderstuff · 31/01/2021 12:45

FPTP doesn't favour niche candidates. I can't see Labour taking such a risk on Izzard. Trying to think where he'd have enough appeal, Kemp Town? Which I think is blue but marginal. He's not going to win back the seats lost in the north is he, hardly working class candidate of choice. Maybe one of the student heavy seats, Bristol or Norwich, the ones the Greens campaign for?

Labour are lost, it's so depressing.

Time40 · 31/01/2021 12:51

It will be interesting to see if this thread stays up, because the one about Eddie the other day got deleted sharpish, and I couldn't see that anyone had said anything that broke the MN guidelines.

AnyFucker · 31/01/2021 12:56

Labour are trying really hard to keep the Tories in, aren't they

What with Keir Starmer turning into a boring contrarian and this silliness, they have no chance

And @greyinganddecaying turns up to get the post pulled. FFS.

Surely Labour will err on the side of caution, what with the going on about ‘girl mode’ and the potential of Eddie rehashing the awful Question Time performance. I’d assume Labour had no interest in being in power if they were in support.

I had hoped the women’s short list question could be discussed within the guidelines - Eddie seems to have been genuinely interested in politics for a long time, I have no issue with them standing but I would not want a women to get pushed aside to facilitate this.

It would be helpful if posters could refrain from personal attacks on EI.

Wants to be the first transgender MP

I thought that was going to be Lily Madigan?

highame · 31/01/2021 14:03

Love Eddie but wish he would get back to his core subject - comedy. I don't know why he wouldn't make a good MP though. Eddie has just as much chance as anyone else, and would prefer to Crispin (I hate women) Blunt. I think he's a nice guy, so no hope then Grin

AdaColeman · 31/01/2021 14:08

That clunking noise you can hear is Hugh Gaitskell and Clement Attlee turning in their graves!

highame · 31/01/2021 14:13

Ada thoughts of Hugh and Clement in girl mode is more than I can countenance 😂😂

highame · 31/01/2021 14:14

That was just the thought the first thought that plopped into my head

AdaColeman · 31/01/2021 14:16

Grin Grin

WhatstheTruthRuth · 31/01/2021 14:21

zanahoria funny you should mention Lily Madigan as I was only thinking about them the other day. Are they still active politically within the Young Labour Party? They were such a rising star. I imagine it’s been tough for them this past year, like most other students. I genuinely hope they’re in a supportive environment because, as irritating as they could be, they obviously had a lot of issues to contend with.
