Read to the end. Its depressing.

I wonder if they are taking their lead from Biden?

Thank god Labour have no chance of winning an election (and this is a member speaking here!)

This and Liz Truss are making a Tory out of me. Never, ever thought I'd say it.

This is completely incoherent.

They don't seem to understand any of the structural reasons that justify AWS in the first place.

nauticant · 28/01/2021 16:14

I raised my eyebrows at the "you go along with this, or else" vibe. But they're being blind to the third option, people simply walking away.

fakenina · 28/01/2021 16:14

Its not just womens shortlists. They are tallking about amendments to the equility act to include gender, something similar to what Biden has done. Basically erraising woman as a legal catogory.

Even Corbyn did not do this?

I wonder if there willbe a mass resignation campaign.

god they really are in a mess

do they really think this is the way to win back those voters who deserted them or voters from the Tories?

still i guess they're not worried about the votes of biological women as we were told last year we werent welcome if we didnt think men were also women

nauticant · 28/01/2021 16:18

It looks like this is from 2019:

Starmer does, but it's less clear whether the NEC is behind him.

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 28/01/2021 16:22

I don't get it. I just do. Not. Get. It.

What are they thinking?

cheeseismydownfall · 28/01/2021 16:22

I wish I was a Labour party member so that I could resign over this travesty.

Winesalot · 28/01/2021 16:23

Thanks for posting. It does make their intentions even more clear I think.

Thanks Nauticant.

xxyzz · 28/01/2021 16:27

It is simply untrue to claim that this is within both the letter and spirit of the Equality Act - it is neither.

Is this going to need a legal case to establish that it is not? Or just mass resignation of female party members and losing another election?

xxyzz · 28/01/2021 16:29

I was well disposed towards Starmer compared to Corbyn and I don't believe he believes in this for a second. But he needs to have more control over his party machine - this is atrocious.

Gosh how surprising, eh? Hmm

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/01/2021 16:33

I might have to re-join just so I can resign my membership again... for the same fucking reason!!!!

Gaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!

ListeningQuietly · 28/01/2021 16:34

Remember that although the Tories accept what women are, we are expected to know our place ....

As we are with Labour: be quiet, put the men first.

Justhadathought · 28/01/2021 16:37

The battle lines are hardening in the Labour party, between those who see Kier Starmer as the way forward, and those on the far left/momentum type members who absolutely hate his guts.

The irony is that this group also contains many old school socialists for whom a materialist analysis of society actually meant something. The thing is, many of these members ( mostly older males) just don't consider women's issues as being primary. They are always subsidiary to the great working class struggle - which basically means men, and women as wives, mothers and daughters of men.

SunsetBeetch · 28/01/2021 16:39

I'm in the Tees Valley area. Ate they fuck having my vote.

UppityPuppity · 28/01/2021 16:40

Is it me but is ‘all women’ the new oxymoron to send a chill down the spine - following on from ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusion’ - words used to mean the exact opposite - but generally coalesce around - fuck off actual women?

Justhadathought · 28/01/2021 16:41

Labour has a proud record of championing equality for women of all backgrounds, including BAME women, LGBT+ women, disabled women and working class women

They've fallen into that habit that TRA activists have of labelling working class, disabled, black women as somehow not primarily women - but as types of women. We are supposed to believe that biological males can be just another type of woman.

Justhadathought · 28/01/2021 16:43

The Labour Party is committed to upholding the principle of affirmative action for women

They have completely lost the plot......

Vargas · 28/01/2021 16:43

Labour have lost my vote. Sad times.
