Barrister, women's right campaigner, mumsnetter @spero, and hero, Sarah Phillimore has been suspended from Twitter. Actor David Paisley and others are gloating about it.

And I just realised that autobloodycorrect corrected the other one... which made my questionn look serious...

Maybe if I split it up more... Are we talking at cross-spero-poses??

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/01/2021 13:29

There's a lot of talk on twitter from TRAs saying Phillimore was anti-Semitic. What's the context around that? (I know TRAs are very good at twisting things / simply making them up)

NecessaryScene1 · 26/01/2021 13:35

Are we talking at cross-spero-poses??

Stop now, lest I biscuit you once more.

NecessaryScene1 · 26/01/2021 13:37

What's the context around that?

Anti-semitism is bad, so it's a good thing to accuse people you don't like of.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 13:38

[screeches to a halt]

A useful tweet is still available in Google cache:

newyearnewname123 · 26/01/2021 13:41

I think that was one of the reasons she was reported to the police as hateful, something about her saying she should ask her dog if he was Jewish. Which was a sarcastic jokey comment during an argument. Sorry I can't be more helpful but she probably shared it on Twitter and I can't find it elsewhere now.

The only reason she is being targeted is because she doesn't believe it's possible to change sex.

She's completely open, all the GRARG meetings are open to anyone who wants to turn up.

nauticant · 26/01/2021 13:45

For when the cache is cleared, here's an archived version of the tweet:

Thanks Nauticant, I knew it must be something like that.

Eowynthewarrior · 26/01/2021 13:59

Talking of Roman influence and musing on the rise and fall of empires and colonialism are we looking at a new dangerous imperialism here more powerful than any empire to date. Controlling the speech of the colonised population, controlling their freedom of religion and ability to earn a living ...except instead of the Romans, the Normans, the Ottomans we have a small number of mostly male people from mostly privileged backgrounds ( and I anticipate many of whom may feel better with computers than people) from a privileged corner of a first world country spreading the tentacles of a certain world view to people and societies that are very different from them. Aren’t we getting a new woke colonialism to replace the empires and associated problems of old? A distorted mirror seen through the eyes of Californian Silicon Valley males? Well it didn’t work out for the Romans when they pushed the indigenous population too far ...andin Britain that ended by an attacks on women ie the Boudiccan revolt

I have been accused of being an anti Semite for about 4 years now. It started when I supported a twitter account @ciabaudo against harassment from Barbara Hewson. He had apparently made some comment about Janner and Belsen. I challenged him, he said he wasn't an anti Semite, he was against child abuse and he had made similar comments about other religions.

I didn't think it was a sensible or appropriate thing to say, but I didn't notice any other examples of anti Semitism so continued to support him. Allegations were then made to my regulator, Chambers and Oxford University (where I was speaking to students) that I was a 'vicious anti Semite' because I supported this man and it has continued from there.

I have had the embarrassing experience of asking a Jewish university friend to write a statement for my High Court case to say that she doesn't think I am an anti Semite. We have known each other for 30 years and she has invited me to Passover with her family. She doesn't think I am an anti Semite. I am confident I am not.

But its an easy accusation to make. It makes people wary. They are -rightly - very concerned and suspicious about it.

I can't do anything about what they say and the smears they make. If I had a spare £10 million, I would sue them all for defamation, but I don't. So I will simply rest in the knowledge that all those who matter to me know exactly who and what I am, and that our 30 year friendships could not have endured if I was an anti Semite or any kind of racist.

WiltingAtTreadmills · 26/01/2021 15:02

Eek, i can see my post wasn't clear - it was referring to mimmymum's tweet, screenshotted above, telling people "let's drop the pretence" etc.

Interesting that antisemitism is the cry from a group that has on numerous occasions said that using the dictionary definition of women is the same as Nazis referring to Jews as vermin etc - somewhere they must believe there's official and widely accepted definitions of Jews as these disgusting slurs and total minimising of the holocaust by comparing it to calling names.

DrLouiseJMoody · 26/01/2021 15:19

I believe these are the tweets about Jewish people in question (which I'm not going to comment on beyond noting that, in my view, they are more ban worthy than any so called misgendering).

The first one seems to be missing the thing she's quoting/ paraphrasing?

DrLouiseJMoody · 26/01/2021 15:33

No idea. I've just seen the screens like everyone else. As I say, I am not going to offer a view here (Twitter users might want to, for example, read Adrian Yalland's thread - @adrianyalland) other than noting that the misgendering charge is absurd.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/01/2021 15:43

But its an easy accusation to make. It makes people wary

And an easy way to target and discredit someone who is blocking their path.
Deflection. Pointing the finger at someone else to divert attention and further scrutiny from themselves.

highame · 26/01/2021 15:59
Flowers
highame · 26/01/2021 16:02

The flowers don't make any sense. Posted without seeing their was a further page. They're for Spiro

Spero · 26/01/2021 16:45

I am not going to comment any further on this thread save to say my solicitor will be pleased to receive any unambiguous comment from an identifiable individual that I am an anti Semite.

If you don't like me and don't support me - newsflash. You don't have to. I do not agree I have tweeted anything ever that merited permanent suspension. If Twitter disagree then there is little I can do.

Good wishes to all fighting the good fight. Let's hope things are much better this time next year.

BlackForestCake · 26/01/2021 16:46

Yalland calls her "tedious". Is that enough to get you banned from Twitter now?

The Twitter mob is now going after Joanna Cherry again based on this dubiously evidenced antisemitism smear.

Are you a witch? Did you tweet in support of a witch?

SunsetBeetch · 26/01/2021 16:47

None of that looks antisemetic to me. Am I missing something?

SunsetBeetch · 26/01/2021 16:51

Even without seeing what she's replying to, the context seems clear enough to me.

Happy to be proven wrong though (well not happy, but ykwim).

DrLouiseJMoody · 26/01/2021 17:05

Are you threatening legal action AGAIN, Sarah? (Before you waste your money you should know that I set up an email filter after your last outburst to send correspondence from Loney Stewart to the bin - it's laughable).

Floisme · 26/01/2021 17:15

Speaking strictly for myself, I am not interested in personal animosities between posters or in who said what on Twitter.

BlackForestCake · 26/01/2021 17:16

I don’t understand the comment about the Jewish dog but it is clearly ironic.

The synagogue bit is clearly an analogy about the way TRAs treat women.

"rainbow blanket" tweet is about "the banality of evil", how even the perpetrators of the holocaust thought they were on the right side of history. Some people don’t like anything being compared to the holocaust, but that seems an important lesson everyone should learn.

The last is about how Jews didn’t leave Nazi Germany until it was too late, because they didn’t believe it would get as bad as it did. Uncontroversial fact or not?

So what of this is antisemitic? Because it is being used to smear not only Phillimore but anyone who speaks out against her being thrown off twitter.
