gardenbird48 · 23/01/2021 18:59

the kids are in the middle of a movie so I wouldn't be popular if I turned over but I would be grateful for an update if poss

"It's a form of conversion therapy for gay and lesbian children"

"No evidence base"

SkeeterP · 23/01/2021 19:06

Dr David Bell was brilliant. All the main points highlighted including the fact policy has been well and truly captured.

OP posts:
midgebabe · 23/01/2021 19:06

"Oh my god I'd better not speak out in case they think I'm transphobic "

nocoolnamesleft · 23/01/2021 19:06

Now, that was stunning and brave.

persistentwoman · 23/01/2021 19:07

He pulled no punches. A shame that neither of them got in the clinic's inadequate CQC inspection.

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 19:08

Gah, missed it. Going to watch later on ch4 +1. It's promising that Channel 4 have covered it. TV equivalent of The Guardian.

stumbledin · 23/01/2021 19:08

If he wasn't who he is (was) you might almost say he has been captured by mumsnet.

Brilliant to hear someone on a mainstream tv programme speak so clearly and straightforwardly about the issue. And having concern for children at the core.

(Dont forget will be reshown in an hour on plus1)

midgebabe · 23/01/2021 19:08

That was mentioned at the very start , before talking about Kiera

persistentwoman · 23/01/2021 19:09

Pleased to hear his comment about this being conversion therapy and not allowing girls to discover their lesbian sexuality

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 19:09

@persistentwoman

He pulled no punches. A shame that neither of them got in the clinic's inadequate CQC inspection.
Oh, did they not mention that? Assumed they would since it was this week!!!
zombielady · 23/01/2021 19:11

Brilliant. What a sensible man.

stumbledin · 23/01/2021 19:13

So pleased he specifically pointed out that for many young women it was basically conversion therapy as it was directing them away from discovering they were lesbian. (Not sure why he had to add in gender non conforming, though!)

Cabinfever10 · 23/01/2021 19:18

Oh l love how the Tavistock statement throws the "other clinics " under the bus, they give them the medication not us

stumbledin · 23/01/2021 19:39

C4 have posted this clip www.channel4.com/news/children-have-been-very-seriously-damaged-by-nhs-gender-clinic-says-former-tavistock-staff-governor

Not sure if it is the whole interview.

On C4+1 in about 20 minutes.

midgebabe · 23/01/2021 19:42

pointing out that gender none conformity because it's part of the story and I think a lot of none invested people think gender none conforming is a good thing , at least in an abstract sense

EachandEveryone · 23/01/2021 19:42

I didnt realise this was on I just happened to switch over. Good for him he was brilliant.

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 20:01

Dr Bell on now on ch4 + 1

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 20:01

Good that Cathy Newman raised the CQC rating in her repot.

Jintyfer · 23/01/2021 20:02

Brilliant piece. So damning. But even Cathy Newman seems to be softening around the issue. She's been a massive TRA for years! David Bell though 👏👏👏

Here's the clip directly on YouTube, prob the same as the one posted above but just in case...

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 20:10

I think that's a really important interview. Good to see they raised the CQC inadequate rating in a Cathy Newman's report. Raised an eyebrow when she read out GID's response which claimed that their work was evidence based Hmm and that they take their time - given some young people are waved through after 2 appointments!
