Just seen they are reporting on this tonight (Saturday).

I’m so pleased to see this getting mainstream coverage- David Bell is fabulous!

MondayYogurt · 23/01/2021 20:13

One of the replies to the C4 twitter link to this is stating that blockers are "physically reversible" with a website and article link:

Has anyone heard of Pharma NRI Digital before? Why are they going against the NHS statement on blocker safety?

A shame that neither of them got in the clinic's inadequate CQC inspection

That was in the intro. They mentioned that it echoed the concerns of the JR. Dr Bell was superb.

The Ravi's response that they were 'disappointed' by the allegations of a very senior clinicians who (despite his position) felt he could only make them public on his retirement was pathetic.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 23/01/2021 20:19

He was superb - clear, calm, professional. I was so happy to hear him speak.

littlbrowndog · 23/01/2021 20:23

Thanks will watch after maske£ singer. Shallow 🤣🤣

Looks like a sector publication for the pharmaceutical industry. Offices in the UK and Australia.
rogdmum · 23/01/2021 20:43

I’m not often shocked these days but Sandyford clinic actually recommended Transparentsees to me! Scotland is such a mess.

@stumbledin

C4 have posted this clip www.channel4.com/news/children-have-been-very-seriously-damaged-by-nhs-gender-clinic-says-former-tavistock-staff-governor

Not sure if it is the whole interview.

On C4+1 in about 20 minutes.

Yeah, that's the whole thing. Well worth a watch if anyone is coming to this thread late.
ShimmyShimmyYa · 24/01/2021 00:01

Dr Bell excellent

so cathy newman's been a bit of a TRA cheerleader?
she has secondary school age daughters ffs! still, maybe the penny is now dropping

stumbledin · 24/01/2021 00:04

Thanks for confirming link is whole interview. Will start sharing.

AnyOldPrion · 24/01/2021 07:29

I am interested to hear Dr Bell state that there is no evidence for the efficacy of puberty blockers. He might have been expected to say there was limited evidence, but he said there was none. The absolute refusal of these clinics to carry out proper clinical trials with randomised control groups is telling. If they genuinely believed it was safe and efficacious, they wouldn’t fear to test it thoroughly in an unbiased and open minded manner.

RadandMad · 24/01/2021 09:32

I might have to go back to watching C4 news on the basis of that report. I gave up on them as irredeemably woke many months ago. The level of bias was getting ridiculous.

RadandMad · 24/01/2021 09:33

@Jintyfer She got properly owned on her ridiculous 'right side of history' question, I thought.

HecatesCats · 24/01/2021 09:38

I thought she used that phrase quite deliberately, I didn't get the sense that she necessarily believes it.

AuntyFungal · 24/01/2021 10:00

Dr Bell is a pleasure to listen to. Not (just) because of the content - he is clear, concise and answers questions.

I thought it was important to note his acceptance of why he was able to raise issues rather than junior colleagues.

  • His seniority - in length of service, job position & prof qualifications.
  • He was near retirement.

& he was very circumspect to not lay the blame of his personal investigation by the Tavi on his report. Classy man.

I hope to hear more from him now he is retired.

rabbitwoman · 24/01/2021 10:08

Devastating, isn't it?

I was speaking to my brother about it yesterday - he not only gets it but was very interested in the psychology of people who don't get it.

I am in the middle of an email discussion with someone who holds exactly the opposite view to me. He is pretty much a stranger - although a friend of a friend I have met once - and the document we are passing back and forth is now over 20 pages!

My brother asked me why I was bothering. I said, look at what is happening all over the world - in the USA, boy's in girl's sports. In Australia, the ban on 'convertion therapy' includes not being allowed to ask children questions about their gender dysphoria. I said, those laws nearly passed here, the only reason they didn't is because we spoke up, raised awareness and campaigned.

It all started here on mumsnet for me. We are doing very important work.

sashagabadon · 24/01/2021 10:10

I watched the video and actually think I saw the exact moment the penny dropped for Cathy! Even her wrong side of history gotcha was half hearted.
RadandMad · 24/01/2021 10:28

@HecatesCats You might be right. It was very hard to tell.

StandWithYou · 24/01/2021 10:54

Dr Bell was fantastic - he is so clear, calm and compassionate. He came across so well and now has the freedom to do even more on this.

Ofsted when they review schools look at the leadership’s view on themselves and response to their report especially any negative concerns.

The Tavistock seem to constantly doubling down and denying anything is wrong or if there is it’s all someone else’s fault (staff, other Trusts, patients who changed their minds). If they can’t see they are wrong how can they put any of it right?

oldwomanwhoruns · 24/01/2021 11:10

I've just transcribed that section of the interview to which @AnyOldPrion referred - it seems really important and worth repeating. (I may have got the word 'fullsome' wrong, it was hard to make out the exact word he used.) He talks about the movement 'capturing government'.

Interviewer:
"Do you worry that you might be on the wrong side of history here?"

Dr Bell:
"Well I think one has to just pull back a little bit first of all, and recognise that this is a very highly politicised area.
And leaders of movements of a very powerful ideological commitment have managed to capture policy, both medically, professionally, in the media, and in government, with no evidence base, it is a purely highly politicised movement which has had these consequences.
So all that I am saying, and many people are saying is, that they need to wait, there needs to be a fullsome engagement with them, as opposed to motoring them through, to treatment pathways, which have irreversible consequences for their bodies.
So we are talking about not doing harm, to children."

RozWatching · 24/01/2021 11:41

I watched the video and actually think I saw the exact moment the penny dropped for Cathy! Even her wrong side of history gotcha was half hearted.

Anyone with half a brain would wince having to ask that question right after Dr Bell's very clear explanation of everything that has gone wrong.

I wonder who actually calls the shots at GIDS. Resisting the judicial review ruling and going after Dr Bell makes them look like unhinged zealots. It's now clear that they are not acting in the interests of their young patients, so what exactly is going on here?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 24/01/2021 11:45

What is the BMA saying about the Tavistock? Surely there are questions of competence after the Bell findings.

endofthelinefinally · 24/01/2021 12:56

I was so pleased and impressed with Dr Bell. Thank goodness he is allowed to speak and channel 4 has given him an interview.
I have noticed that channel 4 is much better than BBC these days.
