I was referring to the "I'd have called him a cunt but he lacks the depth and warmth" as being cringe making but to be honest describing a vagina as "beautiful" is a bit cringe making too. It's functional and I don't understand why it's used as an insult but beautiful?

Isisiris · 18/01/2021 11:40

Can holes be beautiful?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/01/2021 12:39

Vaginas are not beautiful. They are useful, sometimes a conduit of pleasure, sometimes of pain (when something big is being pushed through them).

Waxing lyrical about their beauty is just a different way of keeping ourselves at one remove.

They're just a normal part of our body. Not beautiful, not ugly, not mysterious.

52andblue · 18/01/2021 13:07

When I said 'beautiful' I meant that they are something wonderful, rather than something to be uglified / objectified by being used as an insult.

And Yes I do think something that can be both a part of pleasure and a conduit for new life arriving is wonderful in the way that a toe or an elbow is not. All are useful but a vagina / 'cunt' is far more amazing imo.

peak2021 · 18/01/2021 13:14

I view it as an insult, similar to slut but worse.

Well I agree with that. I'd definitely miss it more than one of my toes Grin

I'm far more offended at being called a slag than a cunt. I see slag as a real, truly sexist insult on a much more straightforward level. It means something, not evolving from a body part. It means that I am not permitted to have sex with whom I want if I'm single. It means I'm judged if I behave as many men do.

Cunt, I dont view this way. I'm not saying it's great and all the points made on this thread are valid. But slag for me personally,is used in a far less nebulous way.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 18/01/2021 20:07

Agree slag is horrid, very kat slater

DreadPirateLuna · 19/01/2021 15:43

Twat is slang for vagina

I'm feeling rather stupid now, because I am 45 and didn't realise this until now. I just thought it was an alternative pronunciation of "twit" Shock

MoleSmokes · 19/01/2021 19:58

"Twat" is not only slang for "vagina" though, eg.

"Then some bloke came round the corner and twatted him and he hit the deck!"

HandInGove · 19/01/2021 21:13

And (from clubbing days!)
Everyone was absolutely twatted last night Grin

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 19/01/2021 21:14

Alternative pronunciation, nah you’ve been swearing like a bad un @DreadPirateLuna

YES Twat as a noun, yes and twatted = steaming, mortal or to hit someone @MoleSmokes

NiceGerbil · 20/01/2021 00:37

I said at work once that someone twatted someone. And they were all Shock do you know what that means? And I said yes, but where I'm from, it means hitting/ punching.

That doesn't get away from the fact that twat general means cunt but less impact (except for a pp who said twat was worse than cunt where they are).

The thing about slut/ slag. Is interesting. They relate (these days) to being promiscuous. For years there's been a lot of stuff saying it's ok for women to enjoy sex, have sex with different partners of it's safe sex etc. I mean that goes back decades.

The 'slut walks' were about trying to reclaim the word. A pp said let's reclaim the word cunt! Like gay people did with queer.

But. It's not the same is it. The social context is different. Entirely. As shown by the fact that 60 (?) years after the 'sexual revolution' women on here still feel viscerally insulted by words like slut and slag.

I can't see in society here let alone around the world, saying hey I'm a slut, get over it. Will get us anywhere. I don't want to 'reclaim' them. I want them gone. I called my dad a slag once. He was. He was utterly shocked Grin

And the fact that cunt is still in many areas the worst thing to call someone in relevant.

Because it links into a load of stuff - from religions. From men. That cunts are still unmentionable. This is the reason there is no 'friendly' term like Willy.

The whole thing points to still a deep societal, erm. Discomfort? With female sexuality, biology, functions etc.

Zannado · 20/01/2021 00:42

It’s never offended me tbh

NiceGerbil · 20/01/2021 00:55

Really?

If someone said. You're a cunt.

You'd be. Totally just. Like if they said do you want a cup of tea or something?

cateycloggs · 20/01/2021 03:37

Has anyone commentated that the reason it sounds ugly is due to the shap your mouth makes and the individual counds? C is a hard soun, to make un you have to lift your top lip in a slight sneer or if youkeep your lpi still it looks like your being tight lipped and speaking out the side of your mouth, then the t sound is made with emphasis so the teh sounds dismissive. Or is it just my funny mouth?

Isisiris · 20/01/2021 19:26

I agree catey and I've said so before. It is a harsh sounding word. I do use it as a casual insult 'you daft cunt' amongst close friends.

Childrenofthestones · 20/01/2021 21:13

I had to laugh when my daughter came home and related an argument between two girls in sixth form where one girl mid rant called the other a cunt, resulting in a third girl, well noted for being rather middleclass, never known to swear, started hyperventilating and had to sit down.
That's some powerful word. 🙂

Childrenofthestones · 20/01/2021 21:16

Mickey Flannigan did a set on casual cunting.

Chichiboo · 19/02/2021 17:38

i'd take more offence at being called a slut or slag because i'm not one...(and i've never been called one - to my face atleast lol).....but sometimes yes i act like a cunt...so if i deserve to be called a cunt then so be it. lol

TrailingLobelias · 19/02/2021 20:19

Doesn't bother me. I'd never use it as a non swear word- I say vulva or vagina if I'm actually talking about those things.

Abhannmor · 20/02/2021 11:27

Don't think I've ever heard it used about a woman in Ireland. Same with 'hoor'. A 'cute hoor' or a 'desperate hoor' is always a man who is a bit dodgy , selfish or tight fisted. A woman with these faults is always ' a weapon ' or maybe a ' dose'. Cunt can be used affectionately. I'm noticing the verbal form 'cunting' used as a sort of placeholder lately.
