Aim? I’m posting on a thread not holding a tutorial, giving my opinion
Mn posters are smart and resourceful they have google like everyone else, they don’t need educated

Thread can go in whatever direction posts take it.

I have disputed that use of cunt is for uneducated and or uncouth types and given examples

HecatesCats · 17/01/2021 17:45

It's just as relevant and interesting to discuss why cunt is NOT derogatory in some subgroups (was it never? Was it once and lost the negative connotation?) as it is to discuss why it's derogatory to many.

If you compare it to the N word I'm pretty clear why this is. It's not women who've reclaimed the C word is it?

samanthawashington · 17/01/2021 17:46

I've called plenty of men cunts

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 17:47

I’m laughing that @Ihopeyourcakeisshit is a user name. We weren’t allowed to say shit/shite as kids as it was considered too rude

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 17/01/2021 17:48

Who are you mixing with that you have to call 'plenty of men cunts'?
I have never used it.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 17:49

It’s equally directed against men to defame character
And yes used by women to men As in He’s a bad cunt etc

HecatesCats · 17/01/2021 17:49

@samanthawashington

I've called plenty of men cunts
Why is it so powerful? I'd love for someone to answer that question.
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 17:51

Why do you think it’s powerful Hecate, you put the work in, formulate an answer

HecatesCats · 17/01/2021 17:53

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Why do you think it’s powerful Hecate, you put the work in, formulate an answer
I've already done that Heels, in response to NiceGerbil's post. Perhaps you could take it from there.
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 17/01/2021 17:55

I don't actually hope anyone's cake is shit Blush
It was said in a thread about recipe theft many years ago and in context it was very funny.
I do feel I might have to name change though, as it makes me sound nastier than I am.
Yes I am also somewhat embarrassed/conflicted about confessing to being on a recipe thread on a feminist board.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 18:00

Feminism doesn’t disbar women from looking at recipes @Ihopeyourcakeisshit

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 17/01/2021 18:03

I know, but I am very much in the baby steps of feminism and it's a frightening arena for the newbie.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 18:06

If you were looking at recipes to prepare all food & undertake all chores whilst your lazy arse of a man was sat doing nowt, that’s a problem
Planning your meals not a problem

OldLang · 17/01/2021 18:21

Glaswegian and occasional user of soundcunt and worstcunt. It's pretty common where I am. We must all be knuckle dragging louts. I must alert the neighbours Grin

TW for sensitive types: It's also common to say "cunted it" as in fell on your arse (I know it doesn't mean arse before anyone feels compelled to educate me but it's far more common to use "fell on your arse" than "fell on your cunt").

I'd rather use it however I want than submit to people trying to police my language and I'll avoid doing the same to others. Same as many other swear words (with obvious exceptions), use it or don't.

I'm less worried about that word being taboo and more concerned about the fact we are seeing a much more extreme censorship of very common words that signify womanhood.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 18:27

Ahh yes cunting as a word
Cunting delivery was late, I was hanging about for ages

NiceGerbil · 17/01/2021 18:30

Has anyone said they want to stop others using it?

I haven't for sure.

I'm not sure why a discussion about why in done areas it's the worst swear word is the same as a call to ban it :/

I totally get that in some areas calling someone a cunt is the same as calling them a cock etc.

For many though, it is above and beyond the rest. It was to the only one bleeped on a TV prog the other day so it's clearly not just me. Thinking about why, given cunt means vagina, is interesting. To me, anyway.

HecatesCats · 17/01/2021 18:32

Not sensitive. Just hoping to return to an interesting discussion about why it's considered far and away the most offensive word to use in many parts of the UK and maybe some interest in why women would find it offensive. Seems we've covered the fact that it's great to use it in parts of Scotland a lot Confused

OldLang · 17/01/2021 18:42

@HecatesCats

Well surely to understand why it's considered offensive to use in some parts of the UK leaves a question of why it isn't considered so in others?
Unless you prefer limited data skewed towards affirmation of your own opinion of course.

In my case, I have a black father and have experienced much worse name calling than a colloquial term for a body part over 50% of the population posses.

Perhaps start your own forum if you want to dictate or invalidate people's contributions? Just a thought.

HecatesCats · 17/01/2021 18:44

Oh I see, no answer then

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 17/01/2021 18:48

No one needs to furnish you with answers Hecate, do your own work,go forth and figure it out yourself

OldLang · 17/01/2021 18:51

@HecatesCats

Are you able to point out which sentence in your paragraph of statements was actually a question in disguise?

52andblue · 17/01/2021 18:56

@CousinKrispy

I find it unpleasant and shocking and misogynistic, but I think that's because I'm not British and it's not as widely used where I grew up. Obviously it's different for UK natives.
I find it shockingly misogynistic too and I'm British born and bred.

I hate something that is so beautiful being used as an insult, especially by women. I too think women should reclaim the word. @EdgeOfACoin makes excellent points about sexist language still being acceptable in a way racist language quite correctly now is not.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 17/01/2021 18:58

Thread successfully derailed Confused

MissBarbary · 17/01/2021 19:11

@HecatesCats

Language,culture,linguistics are fluid and are drawn from a wide socioeconomic group.

Cunt still means vagina tho

Yes and apart from the social circles one poster apparently mixes in it it's an insult, whether directed at a man or a woman.

The question of why that one word is so much worse than any of the other swear words/expletives/ derogatory words is being lost.

MissBarbary · 17/01/2021 19:14

Well surely to understand why it's considered offensive to use in some parts of the UK leaves a question of why it isn't considered so in others?

Have you read the thread? There is one over- invested poster determined to insist it's just fine in Scotland and Ireland and several others disagreeing. The question of why it is so offensive is worth considering- there is no need for the ridiculous derailing.
