He really doesn't come across as the brightest spark in this interview, he just wanted to add some kindness:

It was all going well until he got to the kindness part. Bah.
And then those "words of wisdom": always wear sunscreen. Is that really the wisest thing he's ever learned? Bah again.

UppityPuppity · 13/01/2021 07:47

Hmm. He clearly doesn’t know what kindness is.

Perhaps a rude awakening when his daughter is older?

Igneococcus · 13/01/2021 07:50

I have worked on the repair UV induced DNA damage and I think he has a point there Malahaha :)

I may be wrong but I get the impression that many celebs in interviews are answering questions brought up and asked by woke reporters often in interviews of no relevance to trans rights. They're not necessarily bringing it up themselves.
Once asked, for the interviewee it is an elephant trap in today's fervid social atmosphere. It's a win win for the woke reporter.
Either they get a high profile article where somebody like Grint supports the trans community✓ or they get an even higher profile article where somebody says the wrong thing and generates a Twitter storm then has to apologize and walk it back✓
They will be shit scared of saying the wrong thing.
Be fair the same thing has gone on for a long time with feminism. We have seen feminist reporters asking celebs or politicians if they are feminists. Very often out of the blue, shoehorning the question into an interview that has nothing to do with the subject. Just like the trans question for a politician or celebrity to answer no they are opening a massive can of worms.

GavsCloakOfInvisibility · 13/01/2021 07:52

Didn't show much kindness to JK when she was under attack, did he? Hmm

SweetGrapes · 13/01/2021 07:58

The best way to get some kindness out there is to denounce your local witch.

And Wednesday? Is there a story behind this that makes it worthwhile (other than she was born on a .. ) (couldn't be bothered to Google)

TirisfalPumpkin · 13/01/2021 08:17

‘Wear sunscreen’ is not wisdom, it’s essential when you’re a pale redhead.

Bah. Won’t age well. (His cowardly and dim-witted mobbing of JKR, not his skin)

Malahaha · 13/01/2021 08:21

@Igneococcus

I have worked on the repair UV induced DNA damage and I think he has a point there Malahaha :)
Maybe for some (I grew up in a tropical country, have never worn sunscreen, and neither has anyone I know in that country or in India, where I also lived for a while) or many or most. Not going to argue that.

But the WISEST thing you can state? Really?
I might as well say "never eat junk food" or "never eat hydrogenated fats", both advice that I promote. But by far not the WISEST.

Igneococcus · 13/01/2021 08:23

He is ginger, he'll burn easily, I think he might have been tongue in cheek with that one.

Childrenofthestones. Very good point. What might be a good reply? No comment? Or ask a question back?

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 13/01/2021 08:33

So basically just plugging his new pottery line then.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 13/01/2021 08:39

His job is pretending to be another person. Why are we asking for his pearls of wisdom? He’s not the Dalai Lama.

I’d probably say something flippant like “never eat yellow snow”

Childrenofthestones · 13/01/2021 08:44

It's difficult isn't it? Just to say it " I don't have an opinion" isn't enough as Grint would have found out immediately. Then of course you aren't an ally and are lack empathy and kindness. We've seen the likes of Jodie Cromer, when asked to comment on how her conservative boyfriend voted Trump (as did half the country of course) try to answer that she isn't into politics and get slaughtered and had attempts to cancel her as a result. You either have to have Fuck You money in the bank or know that your fan base aren't likely to be woke.
BlingLoving · 13/01/2021 08:45

I think they've edited down the story. There's nothing there about trans now. It's weird.

nauticant · 13/01/2021 09:14

This part is still there:

I do think it’s still important to stand up for what you believe in, and for people and communities that need our support and love. That’s why I spoke out last year [in the wake of the JK Rowling transgender row, Grint said he firmly stood with the trans community]. I wanted to get some kindness out there.

Kit19 · 13/01/2021 09:17

for comparison, this is how Holliday Grainger and Tom Burke dealt with the question in an interview last year

www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/drama/2020-08-24/strike-holliday-grainger-jk-rowling/

it is possible to deal with the issue without wanging JKR under a bus....

teawamutu · 13/01/2021 09:32

Weaselly little berk.

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 13/01/2021 09:33

So he 'got some kindness out there' by staying stony silent on the horrific abuse that was flung at JKR, and piling in on her himself?

Wandawomble · 13/01/2021 09:34

Kindness - the new word for Vicious Control straight from the Ministry of Truth

MichelleofzeResistance · 13/01/2021 09:34

Stripping women of sex based rights and supporting those who threatened the woman who made your career with death and rape for saying women and children's rights matter too is 'kind' is it?

What definition of 'kindness' are you working from there?

Is 'kindness' something owed by females to males but not something females should ever expect in return?

Utter muppet.

McDuffy · 13/01/2021 09:52

Good comments though!

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/01/2021 09:59

McDuffy please share some comments!

I used to love reading the Times comments but I haven’t been able to see them for the past few weeks. Not sure if it is only subscribers who can read them now!

Kindness - the new word for Vicious Control straight from the Ministry of Truth

It really is.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2021 10:07

Another bit of wisdom I've picked up in life... "Don't get run over"

This has served me well... So far.

Igneococcus · 13/01/2021 10:17

Daisies I don't think you have to be a subscriber to see the comments. I had problems with the comments not loading a few weeks ago and the tech support person said to delete cookies (which migth be the first suggestions they throw out anyway) or to try a different browse.
