He really doesn't come across as the brightest spark in this interview, he just wanted to add some kindness:

*off the actual important topic

Am I the only one who reads Wednesday & thinks Adams? & we know Wednesday would have stood with JK & then fed Weasley a cherry bomb pie while Morticia looked on approvingly.

@SomeonesRealName

Kind of missing the point I know but who the fuck starts doing hobby pottery when their baby's napping??!
You know, that was tugging at the back of my mind too, thank you for putting it into words Grin
User27aw · 13/01/2021 20:22

I laughed when he was saying he has always been a bad sleeper, he has a baby ..... and now his sleep is much improved! I spy round the clock nannies.

Pudmyboy · 13/01/2021 21:39

Yes what has disappointed me is that I have never heard him saying anything good about JKR or acknowledging any debt to her for basically making him rich enough to not have to worry for his daughter's future. And no acknowledgment of the vitriol she received. Have completely gone off him.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 13/01/2021 21:54

Like many self-absorbed young men, he’s happy to exploit the work of a woman for his own gain. Just not stand by her if it means a loss of approval from strangers on the internet.

I know my daughter’s going to be OK and that’s nice.

Unless she gets really good at sport but not quite as good as the biologically male 'new girl' on the team.

Or wants to have a changing room that's female-only.

Or gets caught up in a group of teen friends succumbing to ROGD.

Or feels pressured into letting her boyfriend choke her during sex at 17 because that's what the cool sex-positive girls do.

Refuge no, prisons you'd hope not, but money can't completely protect you from from misogyny.

Pudmyboy · 13/01/2021 22:34

So Rupert would never say never to another HP movie? I would love it if JK wrote one where Ron was shown to be a self-centred backstabber.......

It would have to be Ron, Harry and Hermione.

Maybe Voldemort had played the long game and there was something more than a Horcrux in Harry that slowly took over and turned him into Voldemort II. Hermione could turn into a Dolores Umbridge, so sure she's right all the time that she overrides established safeguarding protocols. And Ron, riding their coat-tails agreeing with them both.

If course he wouldn't say no.

It's one thing (an easy thing) to lecture women about the principles you think they ought to have.

It's quite another thing to have and act on principles of your own, specially if acting on them causes you to lose shedloads of money.

It would appear Rupert is a gentleman whose own principles appear to be flexible when they meet up with economic reality.

TrashedWarrior · 14/01/2021 18:51

Ugh, I wonder what his partner and daughter will think of this in about 10 years.

The sunscreen thing I reckon is him trying to be cool dude and referencing this song.

More evidence that we're educating young people to live by slogan and don't bother about critical thinking.

Defaultname · 15/01/2021 00:31

If you're pale-skinned it's especially important to be aware of the need for sunscreen.
This holds true no matter how dark-skinned you identify.

Malahaha · 15/01/2021 05:45

I don't "identify" as dark-skinned. I AM dark-skinned. Please don't allow their language to infiltrate other areas of our lives!

I don't know any dark-skinned person who uses sunscreen. It's not a need for us. But white-skinned people keep telling us it is.

Defaultname · 15/01/2021 09:58

Malahaha,
Apologies. My comment was meant to point out to Ron that one can no more identify out of being prone to tanning easily than one can (in reality) opt out of being a man or a woman.

@Malahaha

It was all going well until he got to the kindness part. Bah. And then those "words of wisdom": always wear sunscreen. Is that really the wisest thing he's ever learned? Bah again.
@Malahaha Sunscreen is a song by Baz Lurhmann and it actually does contain quite a lot of good advice. I think his comment was a tongue in cheek reference to the whole song.
Malahaha · 15/01/2021 10:28

Yeah, I get now that it was some kind of a joke. Sometimes I live on a different planet and I'm very Confused by most pop culture references!

YukoandHiro · 15/01/2021 10:31

Ha ha ha that headline! Desperate attempt to make a boring day in the life of piece move a bit online
