He really doesn't come across as the brightest spark in this interview, he just wanted to add some kindness:

Ooh, don't read the comments. That's never a good move. I have often said that I wonder if Times journalists ever play, Drinking to The Comments. So drink every time a comment like, "why do we have to read this drivel in The Times" (that one should probably be a shot). Or any other version of "this is inappropriate". Plus various other things.

I missed the reference because frankly it's so light and vague and pointless. Honestly, it's astonishing to me how misleading the headline. And how disappiointing woke bros like this man child are in terms of actually thinking about anything.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/01/2021 10:29

The comments are mostly great - I suspect quite a few will be deleted by The Times mods...

I feel special, o so special,
I fear sleep, call my kids funny names
I have money, am a New Dad but an old dad too cos no cooking for me-ee-ee.
I feel special, o so special,
I believe everything I am told
About trans folk even though women are far more at risk of violence
But though I live with 2 women that's old news and not special enough for me-ee-ee.
I'm self-centred, shallow and ignorant.
But hey! A Nice Woke Boy who made good on the back of JKR so who cares?

DaisiesandButtercups · 13/01/2021 10:30

Thanks Igneococcus I will try some tinkering. And thanks for the share token.

BuntingEllacott · 13/01/2021 11:16

@Kit19

for comparison, this is how Holliday Grainger and Tom Burke dealt with the question in an interview last year

www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/drama/2020-08-24/strike-holliday-grainger-jk-rowling/

it is possible to deal with the issue without wanging JKR under a bus....

Not that I'm the biggest, most embarrassing fangirl in the world or anything, but everytime I read their responses I get a warm, happy glow.
MichelleofzeResistance · 13/01/2021 12:19

One comment made me wince hard: the realisation that this muppet has sentenced his poor daughter not only to a future where she is a subhuman thing in law with rights subordinated to people born with penises (while at the same time the law pretends sex doesn't exist) but where she will inevitably be known by her school mates as HumpDay.

Beamur · 13/01/2021 12:48

I really wish that Rupert Front, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe get not one whit more work or money off the back of JKR.
Ungrateful little toerags.
Bringing more kindness, is he too dim to see that will be taken as a jibe at JKR? That's hardly kind is it.
What a twit.

@WomenAreBornNotWorn

So basically just plugging his new pottery line then.
The go-to place if you're looking for a mug.
ThePankhurstConnection · 13/01/2021 13:29

@Malahaha

It was all going well until he got to the kindness part. Bah. And then those "words of wisdom": always wear sunscreen. Is that really the wisest thing he's ever learned? Bah again.
Listen, when you are a red head that could be the most important thing you learn. Grin As a child I burned if I even looked at the sun for 5 minutes.
ThePankhurstConnection · 13/01/2021 13:31

@Igneococcus

He is ginger, he'll burn easily, I think he might have been tongue in cheek with that one.
lol I see this has been mentioned several times already. Yes, yes, should have RTFT before posting.

Kind of missing the point I know but who the fuck starts doing hobby pottery when their baby's napping??!

ChattyLion · 13/01/2021 14:53

He’s not coming over as relatable as he might like with his home pottery kiln and poo wafflings.
He’s definitely not kind either (to women).. but presumably they don’t matter in all this? Hmm

Why HumpDay? Not seeing the connection to Wednesday?
CuntAmongstThePigeons · 13/01/2021 15:31

Wednesday is now known as hump day amongst the younger generation. I assume its getting over the hump of Wednesday and being halfway through the working week. But in reality everyone just posts pictures of their arse on Wednesday on Instagram and hashtag with #humpday

He's a ginger like me. It's the best advice you could ever give as a ginger!!
Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/01/2021 16:13

The "hump day" (hump of the week-Weds) concept has been around a while, but I think was less well known before social media.

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/01/2021 16:22

Thanks for the explanations on humpday. I now feel very old. Grin

CaraDuneRedux · 13/01/2021 16:31

That article is a convenient, 3 column inches illustration of the old adage "better to remain silent and have people think you are a fool than to speak and confirm it beyond all doubt."

BuntingEllacott · 13/01/2021 16:33

Yeah - imagine the week as a hill, it's all downhill towards the weekend after Wednesday, after the hump or peak of the hill.

OnceIWasAnApe · 13/01/2021 17:00

I don't agree with him, but the fact that this thread is taking the piss of the fact that he has red hair, and the name of a baby girl, makes me think that there DOES need to be more kindness.

OneMoreWish · 13/01/2021 17:08

Well I've learnt something new... humpday

I'll never argue against true kindness.

But mentioning red hair (I didn't see mockery) and a silly baby name Vs ignoring the awful treatment meted out to a woman who's done nothing wrong and is solely responsible for his huge success...

...I think I know who might need to be trying hardest.

Malahaha · 13/01/2021 17:49

I certainly wasn't taking the piss out of gingers! I'm just not as aware of the risks to them as I should be, being dark of skin.
Yet still, I never saw "wisdom" as something relating to common-sense care of the body so as to maintain good health.

But probably I missed the tongue-in-cheekiness there, as someone upthread suggested.

I'm another one who never heard of Humpday. The joys of being retired: what's a weekend?

SqueakyCarrots · 13/01/2021 18:00

So what if feminists were doing the same thing re questions?

He’s a man, with all the privilege, who got rich off the back of a woman and he has a daughter to think about.

Besides if he doesn’t want to get called transphobic by wokey woos then he can play to his gormless strengths and say ‘I dunno much about it all tbh, bit shit at knowing what’s going on in the world me. But JK’s fricken awesome, what a woman & so talented. I owe my whole career to her. Can’t wait to read my girl Harry Potter & tell her all about JK.’

Super easy & not the least bit weasely.

Absolutely. He didn't have to say a word against JK. Probably just wanted to be in lockstep with the other two. I doubt he's given a thought to it.

I know my daughter’s going to be OK and that’s nice.

Right. She will never have to share a dorm or a changing room with males, as she will be well protected on the cushion of his wealth. All thanks to JK.
