Medicalised pathway for children is not a "standard of care"

Interesting thread about WPATH admitting that their treatments for children/adolescents including puberty blockers, wrong sex hormones, and sterilizing surgeries are NOT STANDARDS OF CARE.

The lawyers have had a word and now it has been downgraded to "guidelines" and so the buck stops with the individual doctor.

They're starting to admit it's experimental.

The buck-passing starts. Good news, all the same.

How the hell an advocacy organisation like WPATH was ever regarded as an arbiter of clinical care anyway? It’s no better than one of those “Trusted Trades” organisations where all you have to do to get an “Approved” badge is pay a joining fee.

This should be a big lever to help all those who have been concerned but were stymied by the WPATH “Standards of Care” propaganda.

Next, the equally sketchy “Yogyakarta Principles”!

Funny how a potential lawsuit can focus minds

ArabellaScott · 21/12/2020 08:21

I suppose this is good news but frankly it makes me feel sick. At least there's a chance that the people who continue to loudly advocate for the affirmative medical route are misguided but well intentioned.

All the swerves and disclaimers at the prospect of lawsuits exposes the fucking mendacity and lack of actual conviction behind many of the people pushing this shit.

It's abhorrent that anyone would do what they do without evidence of benefit and with such very clear risk of harm. To children.

Raging.

OhHolyJesus · 21/12/2020 08:33

We should remember all those who held WPATH in such high regard. All of them.

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 21/12/2020 08:34

All is the evidence for adolescents are low, very low quality, or absent evidence.

Says it all really

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/12/2020 08:38

Someone ought to tell mermaids given they tweeted wpath quote the other day...

Apollo440 · 21/12/2020 08:41

Yes we should remember all the enablers. We have the receipts. I personally won't be happy until they are all hung out to dry for this.

Mumsnut · 21/12/2020 10:06

Was Jolly-on citing them too?

MaudTheInvincible · 21/12/2020 11:00

Every single one of them should have to face the consequences of allowing this horrible scandal to happen.

SunsetBeetch · 21/12/2020 15:40

There are days when I still can't believe how far down this awful road we have gone. Today is one of those days.

WPATH should be abolished for this.

SunsetBeetch · 21/12/2020 15:51

Hope you don't mind, just archiving some evidence.

SunsetBeetch Great work archiving the evidence, ahead of the inevitable denials and frantic attempts to foist the blame on “transphobes” who are allegedly unable to appreciate “nuance”, a la all the recent “born in the wrong body” back-tracking!

Wow, it's like a Debretts of utter twats Grin

Thingybob · 21/12/2020 19:12

Is this a good thing that the Standards of Care are no longer what it says on the tin but instead only guidelines?

I know WPATH is little more than a trade association but their SoC have been held up as 'best international practice' all around the world to challenge and change laws. These Standards of Care (like the Tavistock) state that a child needs to be able to give informed consent before being prescribed PB. If the Good Law Project were to challenge that requirement in court, would WPATHs SoC have the same credibility as 'guidelines' rather than 'standards of care'?

persistentwoman · 21/12/2020 19:21

Well done SunsetBeetch for all the archiving. As we know the reverse ferreting around the treatment of children is massive "Born in the wrong body" anyone?

Deliriumoftheendless · 21/12/2020 19:21

Some of them won’t change. The main believers will turn on each other before they say they were wrong.

The hangers on will have that look about them a cat does when it’s covering it’s shit up, whilst pretending it didn’t do it.

ArabellaScott · 21/12/2020 21:00

Well done, SunsetBeetch.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 21/12/2020 21:12

Excellent archiving.

I predict that the usual suspects will soon be along, attempting to provoke something delete-worthy, in order to get the thread removed
