Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

But even women actors aren’t - and haven’t been for years - called actresses! I remember chatting to a (woman) actor in the mid 80s and she was definitely an actor...

Dontbeme · 20/12/2020 18:47

Congratulations and welcome to womanhood Eddie, I cannot wait for the first article on the daily mail sidebar of shame where they write about you flaunting your pins, busty looks and heavily made up face, or when they imply you have a suspiciously "youthful" ( wink, wink fillers and Botox) visage. Or do only certain woman have to worry about being torn to shreds for being mutton dressed as lamb?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 20/12/2020 18:48

I strongly suspect that in the real world beyond twitter no-one will think he is anything else than Eddie Izzard, crossdresser.

I've been ignoring this as I cba to waste energy on him; I've started to see fawning on fb from just general mums "good on her!" Etc.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 20/12/2020 18:48

When will the menopause hit?

merrymouse · 20/12/2020 18:49

It is not just pronouns - Izzard is now described as an "actress" in the Wikipedia article about Izzard.

Which is strange, because from the Guardian style guide:

"actor
Use for both male and female actors; do not use actress except when in name of award, eg Oscar for best actress. The Guardian’s view is that actress comes into the same category as authoress, comedienne, manageress, “lady doctor”, “male nurse” and similar obsolete terms that date from a time when professions were largely the preserve of one sex (usually men). As Whoopi Goldberg put it in an interview with the paper: “An actress can only play a woman. I’m an actor – I can play anything.”

There is normally no need to differentiate between the sexes – and if there is, the words male and female are perfectly adequate: Lady Gaga won a Brit in 2010 for best international female artist, not artiste, chanteuse, or songstress.

As always, use common sense: a piece about the late film director Carlo Ponti was edited to say that in his early career he was “already a man with a good eye for pretty actors ...” As the readers’ editor pointed out in the subsequent clarification: “This was one of those occasions when the word ‘actresses’ might have been used” "

Don't forget anyone can alter wiki.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 20/12/2020 18:55

Ahh.

Honestly, I'm sure it'll peak a few more

clearly not the fb mums I know mind you.

rabbitwoman · 20/12/2020 18:57

Eddie izzard is now a lesbian.

I do wonder if her first paramour will be another lesbian like Alex Drummond? Or surely izzard and bergdof would be an amazing power couple?

Hmmm..... Methinks when it comes to genital preferences, izzard will be proven as trsnsphobic as the best of us....

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 20/12/2020 19:00

Live as you want - but if you're a big strong bloke in the women's loos, you are scary, and your presence there even if you're One Of The Good 'Uns makes it easier for predators to venture in there.

No male who uses women’s toilets is ‘one of the good ‘uns’.

Not if they sincerely believe they’re women.
Not if they’re certain they pass.
Not if they merely want to get in & out without being noticed.
Not even if they claim to be gender critical & on our side.
If they’re happy to risk intimidating women with their presence & as notyourhandmaid says, making it easier for men who do want to harm women to get into our private spaces, then they’re not good’uns and they’re not on our side.

Username642243 · 20/12/2020 19:24

If we woke up tomorrow with a male body (that we inhabited, not that we'd dispatched) we would not use women's spaces. Because we understand how women would feel.

Defaultname · 20/12/2020 19:46

A woman is a creature that has always been strange
Just when you're sure of one
You'll find she's gone and made a change.

Izz you, is or, izz you ain't my baby?
Maybe baby's found somebody new
Or is my baby still my baby true?

TinselAngel · 20/12/2020 20:16

The gradual escalation and pushing of boundaries that Eddie is inflicting on the British public, is very familiar to trans widows.

pippitysqueakity · 20/12/2020 20:18

I went to see Eddie regularly in the 90s. First time I saw Eddie, Eddie performed the whole set in a dress and never mentioned it. I kept waiting for the mention which never came, and after, felt disappointed in myself that I felt it was worth mentioning. Why shouldn’t
Eddie perform the set in a dress after all, why should it be mentioned? It made me question my own assumptions about clothing.
How disappointing that the realisation Eddie brought me to, that clothes were just clothes was not actually one which Eddie shares.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 20/12/2020 20:25

Very.

The fawning is sickening.

mollscroll · 20/12/2020 20:29

I think the fawning is intended to drown out the sound of the cognitive dissonance clanging internally.

Eddie is doing our work for us. Everyone can see what this is.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 20/12/2020 20:39

As someone on twitter pointed out - autobiography out now just in time for Christmas.

napody · 20/12/2020 20:44

'The only way they can tell the difference is by being assaulted.' Terrific writing from Glinner. The reality of that sentence has been fluttering around us this last decade and he has just pinned it down. Thank you.

Lysistra65 · 20/12/2020 20:49

I am fine with Eddie wearing whatever he likes, but Eddie is male. Pronouns are forcing other people to pretend he is a woman - that is coercive gas lighting behaviour .

NeurotreeWenceslas · 20/12/2020 20:57

I'm sure this has been posted already.

Worth it again.

He's a he.

Eddie Izzard...
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/12/2020 20:59

Has Eddie ever had a partner? I'm not aware of anyone hovering around the wings making supportive noises?

I have always had a soft spot for Eddie. It has hardened since Eddie started sounding like any middle aged entitled man.

AnotherLass · 20/12/2020 21:02

Defaultname that is brilliant

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 20/12/2020 21:03

How predictable. How set-pattern formulaic. How supremely, ultimately, boring.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2020 21:05

Eddie's twitter referred to Eddie as 'him' yesterday.Hmm
