‘Our sitter is one of the most celebrated comedians of our time, she has ....she is ....’
I was expecting Jennifer Saunders or Ruby Wax.
No. Eddie Izard.
‘I’m gender-fluid’... ‘I want to be in full-on girl mode from now on’ ... ‘I’ve asked to be referred to as ‘she’ and ‘her’ etc.
I’m trying to work out why it irritates me so much.
I think it might be the black high-heeled lace up boots.

@Tollergirl

It's made me really cross and I was so looking forward to it! WTF is "girl mode"? This is just topping off a generally WTF day as my 15 yr old DD was made to watch a film about "puppy play" during RSE today at school! I asked what the teacher said the rationale for this was? I suspect it's just the wokeism that is now normalising fetishism in the guise of educating our DC.

More annoyingly this had led to me dropping several stitches in my knitting project. Hey ho, I can pick up dropped stitches because I'm like, in "girl mode". As my DD said, he's too old for that anyway he should have said "woman mode" Hmm

What the actual fuck
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/12/2020 21:56

Didn't like "looking like Angela Merkel"

Bang out of luck there then

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:57

What in fact is puppy play?

OP posts:
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/12/2020 21:59

Well it doesnt involve actual puppies for a start toughie

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/12/2020 21:59

DONT GOOGLE IT!!!

Bunnybigears · 16/12/2020 22:02

I used to quite like Eddie's take on him wearing dresses etc when he used to say 'I'm just a bloke in a dress' but this new gender-fluid girl mode Eddie has really pissed me off.

Tollergirl · 16/12/2020 22:05

I'm so relieved that others are thinking the same because I have been worried about being "that parent " and DP has only just got home from work (he is now WTF +++). Neither of us are prudish and we are fairly open with DC but I am really struggling to see why this is considered appropriate teaching material for Y10.

We have now agreed that we will be contacting the school to ask a very simple "why?". Thankfully my DD is eminently sensible and is always happy to tell me what they've been doing in these lessons but this has just got me v puzzled, as well as pretty cross, actually. She also has a great sense of humour because she said "do you think if xxxx (our dog) had watched it he would have been offended by people saying they were dogs!! Grin

If anyone is interested I will keep you posted about the school's response.

Toughie · 16/12/2020 22:06

Ok so obviously I’ve just googled it.
This was shown IN A SCHOOL?!?!?

Toughie · 16/12/2020 22:08

Please let us know the response Tollergirl.
I’m a teacher and cannot imagine how this would come up in any form in any lesson.

@Toughie - YES!!

I do apologise for hijacking this thread by the way - probably should have started a new one but I was already pissed off by this today and seeing Eddie Izzard in "girl mode" just finished me off!!

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/12/2020 22:10

I love this programme wasn't impressed with the drag queen episode and then started watching tonight but had to turn it off when I realised they were all calling Eddie Izzard 'she' and his wittering about 'girl'. So I watched the repair shop which was much better

Winesalot · 16/12/2020 22:13

Why is it always ‘girl’ this, ‘girl’ that? Infantilising nonsense! Just like a certain model who went to have their feminizing facial reconstruction who took a teddy bear to the hospital bed with them.

I love the programme, haven't seen that episode yet.
I use to love Eddie but then he turned into a nob and I cannot bear the "girl mode" thing.
I'm glad that he didn't like the paintings - that will make it easier to watch!

Nore · 16/12/2020 22:16

Oh, good to know others felt the same way — I was so irritated by Eddie Izzard being introduced as a female comedian etc I actually turned it off by the first ad break, because I realised I was willing the three painters to make the most unflattering portraits of all time. I mean, has he the faintest idea how hard it is to be a female stand-up?

Spoiler me someone — who won?

Im quite offended that a has—been comedian like izzard gets compared to Angela Merkel. I have quite the intellectual woman crush on her.

Mollyollydolly · 16/12/2020 22:28

I saw who it was and didn't watch it. Glad I didn't now.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/12/2020 22:30

Who made Eddie look like Angela Merkel

God

Toughie · 16/12/2020 22:33

We usually watch this on catch up tomorrow but as I now know Curtis won I’m not going to bother as he shouldn’t have been in the final in the first place . There have been some pretty good artists in this series so I can’t believe Scribble bloke has won , there are some interesting posts on Twitter .

That cheered me up after a crappy day!

Disappointed Curtis won. I liked his work least of the final three.
