‘Our sitter is one of the most celebrated comedians of our time, she has ....she is ....’
I was expecting Jennifer Saunders or Ruby Wax.
No. Eddie Izard.
‘I’m gender-fluid’... ‘I want to be in full-on girl mode from now on’ ... ‘I’ve asked to be referred to as ‘she’ and ‘her’ etc.
I’m trying to work out why it irritates me so much.
I think it might be the black high-heeled lace up boots.

The ‘ girl mode today’ irked me too. I used to love Eddie as a comedian and wasn’t bothered by him wearing a frock / make up etc; but everyone calling him ‘her’ because he felt like being a girl today feels like an insult. Proper ‘ girl mode’ is full time and can be bloody hard work. Would you like a heavy period today Eddie to match your red dress?

It irritates me so much because he used to be so brilliant when he was happily & proudly “a bloke in a dress”. I loved how he completely owned it, telling that tv presenter “they’re not women’s dresses, they’re MY dresses, I brought them” and doing the whole “weirdo transvestite.....executive transvestite” pointing out that ppls crap behaviour can’t be excused on the basis they’re a transvestite

How the hell did it end up here?

Stuffofawesome · 16/12/2020 21:01

I think Eddie struggled a bit with how others perceive them. Didn't like "looking like Angela Merkel"

OverByYer · 16/12/2020 21:04

Yes @Biscuitsanddoombar I admired his bravado as a transvestite now it almost feels like he wants to conform to something else

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:05

Yes agreed.
I can’t explain it.
Is he just not funny anymore but desperately wants to stay in the public eye?

@Scout2016 - yes I'm also interested akand am trying to decide how to express my interest with the school.

He does look like Angela Merkel
gardenbird48 · 16/12/2020 21:19

@YesMeLady

Eddie didn't seem impressed with any of the portraits
Ha.
ArabellaScott · 16/12/2020 21:21

Oh, from your post, OP, I thought it would be shit, but if there's schadenfreude to be had I might tune in. Smile

MrsMiaWallis · 16/12/2020 21:22

If you fancy a bit of schadenfreude then it's deffo worth watching.

ArabellaScott · 16/12/2020 21:23

But .. this sky thing .. do you have to pay for it?

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:25

No, on freeview

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 16/12/2020 21:27

Grand, thank you!

YesMeLady · 16/12/2020 21:27

If you think this was bad you should watch the celebrity artist episode that was on at 7pm with Lawrence Fox looking like Bevis and Butthead

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:28

Channel 11 on my TV. Some quite good stuff on there surprisingly. Have seen some interesting book club type programmes, and quite a lot of interesting music stuff and load of old episodes of Tales of the unexpected.

MrsMiaWallis · 16/12/2020 21:28

I'm sorry but the artists are pretty poor. Might have to watch the lozza fox one.

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:30

I was going to watch that but saw that old Lozza was on so gave it a miss. Not sure I can take two twatty narcissists in one night.

YesMeLady · 16/12/2020 21:33

You have to watch it. Fast forward it to Jenny Eclair.

Teaandcrisps · 16/12/2020 21:34

Oh my - give this artist his own chat show - interviewing and artistry. His conversation with Carlos Acosta is beautiful.

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:35

Does she talk about dry vaginas?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 16/12/2020 21:35

Do I need a TV? Can I not watch it on the computer?

Sorry, I am shit at all this [waves hands vaguely at the 21st century] stuff.

YesMeLady · 16/12/2020 21:36

No thank goodness but her portrait is unbelievably funny

Toughie · 16/12/2020 21:38

Me too Arabella. I think I’m clever if I watch something on ITV+1.

OverByYer · 16/12/2020 21:40

Curtis is just lovely. I enjoyed last year when Christabel got to paint Nile Rogers

StellaAndCrow · 16/12/2020 21:53

"My 15 yr old DD was made to watch a film about "puppy play" during RSE today at school!"
WTF indeed tollergirl. Why on earth would that be shown in school? I can't imagine any context in which that would be appropriate. I'd be very interested to know how the school explain it.
