I couldn't see a thread on this. An interview with JKR for Good Housekeeping for January.

The multi-millionaire author spoke out yet again on transgender issues in an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, despite emotional pleas from fans and Harry Potter cast members for her to reconsider on her stance on the subject

So she should only be allowed an opinion on the matter if she's changed her mind, at the request of some of the HP cast 🙄

howlsmovingcastle84 · 09/12/2020 20:26

She got her points over well.

Daily Mail has also covered this.

Rowling calls for end to 'climate of fear' around trans debate [[https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9034385/JK-Rowling-calls-end-climate-fear-trans-debate.html?ito=native_share_channel-home-preview]]

Comments are supporting JKR. Ordinary people are not onside with medicating gender non confirming kids.

Sorry not sure what happened to above link.

HotSince63 · 09/12/2020 21:32

Thank you - I shall be buying a copy.

colouringindoors · 09/12/2020 22:47

Amazing woman.

stumbledin · 09/12/2020 23:30

Most of the papers have now picked up on this as well as RT!

Thanks for the images of the article but cant quite read them Sad - have tried to find a link on GH web site but cant see it.

Could you let me know what the title of the article is?

Thanks

stumbledin · 09/12/2020 23:33

Oh yes, and Pink News etc., have all got articles about JKR stirring up the issue again - sigh!

highame · 10/12/2020 15:54

Are we fickle. A couple of months ago the praise and glory whizzing in JKR's direction was massive, now she can't summon more than 9 messages.

Well done JKR, thank you for keeping these issues alive

Canwecancel2020 · 10/12/2020 16:05

She answered really well and has carried herself with grace and dignity throughout all of this, but I imagine she’s also glad not to be defined by this single issue and actually talk about her books too.

thirdfiddle · 10/12/2020 16:55

Not sure i can bring myself to read good housekeeping even for JKR. Not my thing.

One of the best aspects of her support for women has been the consistency. She doesn't speak often but at regular intervals up she pops. Careful, considered, compassionate and utterly reasonable every time. Making clear she still hasn't been intimidated, and won't go away.

She's been a real star this year. For women, for children in lockdown, I've been enjoying Strike too, and her charity work as ever. Respect.

SnuggyBuggy · 10/12/2020 16:57

Ooh I'll have to buy this as well as some nice new copies of Harry Potter.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/12/2020 17:07

Thanks for this. Good Housekeeping Mag isn't my thing, but I've put this issue on my Kindle to read at some point.

Barmbraic · 10/12/2020 17:08

This is an excellent audience for the message too. My mum has never thought about this issue (won't listen to me!) but if it's in GH she'll read it and have a think. Thanks JKR.

Yes! It feels like she’s running a very careful PR campaign (but for women rather than herself)
She’s a class act

nancywhisky · 10/12/2020 17:15

Might buy a copy this month.

I think it has nice recipes.

MichelleScarn · 10/12/2020 17:15

Thanks for the heads up! On a day off tomorrow, so a definite purchase for some reading!

SnuggyBuggy · 10/12/2020 17:20

I quite like Good Housekeeping but I feel like a hypocrite buying it when I'm such a slattern.

IDanielRadcliffe · 10/12/2020 18:02

It’s hard to continue saying she is controversial or bigoted or hateful if she’s in Good Housekeeping, though I see Prick News are continuing to fight the good fight Hmm

scrappydappydoo · 10/12/2020 18:05

Can I just hijack and ask a question? My dd has just told me that her yr8 English teacher told her class that JK Rowling was transphobic and that her new book says not nice things about transgender people. I’m cross that she is sharing this opinion in class and had a chat with my dd about not believing everything you read on social media but I’m wondering if I should leave it there and not feed the fire or bring it up with the school? Any thoughts?

merrymouse · 10/12/2020 18:22

What a stirrer!

"I believe everyone should be able to live a life that is authentic to them"

merrymouse · 10/12/2020 18:25

My dd has just told me that her yr8 English teacher told her class that JK Rowling was transphobic and that her new book says not nice things about transgender people.

It doesn't say anything at all about transgender people.

I'd feel tempted to bring this up with the school, because I'd be worried that the teacher didn't have an adequate grasp of reading comprehension.

mollscroll · 10/12/2020 19:08

Definitely buying this. And scrappy I would definitely be raising this with the school. Ask the teacher which exact bits of the statement she considers transphobic.

mollscroll · 10/12/2020 19:09

GH readers definitely won't be disagreeing. They are of an age where they don't buy into bullshit gender sprinkles.

PinaGrigio · 10/12/2020 19:31

Just adding that I get Good Housekeeping (known as 'Middle Class and Middle Aged' in this house Wink) on a gift sub. Not only was it an excellent interview with JKR, but they also did a feature on their women of the year, where each of their team picked a woman who had inspired them in 2020. Every single one a biological woman, IYSWIM. Incredibly refreshing.
