To be fair, if the treatment was actually experimental the Tavi would be collecting data and have an intellectual interest in the outcome.

This is a very important point.

Mermaids has been fanning the flames for yonks too.

CAMHS is next to useless it receives so little financial support to meet the needs of the yp referred, but as a result they welcome supportive charities helping them with their caseload in other ways. And those charities or trusts can also be employed by the health trust to deliver group projects etc (not sure of mermaids has but set ups like the proud trust do.)

So the lack of real choice mother #1 described has been moulded from start to finish.

Hecates There was a desperation in the mother yesterday: "We just needed expert help". She also acknowledged that the path that they were taking was the only option available currently, therefore that's what they have to go with.

That is almost word for word what my friend who has a trans son said to me. She is apprehensive about what they are doing, but, has no alternative. I feel very sorry for her, she is worried whether her child transitions or not.

Not being to access pediatric mental health care for suicidal ideation and mood disorders etc is a major problem.

Because, when a parent can pay privately, there ARE options - a clear explanation to child of parental responsibility + that transition, social or otherwise, is a decision that can only ethically be taken by fully matured adults, careful and solid acceptance of GNC traits in child and, most importantly, psychotherapeutic support for suicidal ideation and other mental health issues.

This allows families to end up with an adult child more capable of making a decision to transition, if they are in the small cohort whose GD persists.

But if you can't access mental health care, you're in a bind.
