Conservatives For Women launch today

“If particular care and attention is not paid to the Ladies we are determined to foment a Rebellion...”
Abigail Adams 1744

Here at Conservative Womens Pledge we told you we intended to redouble our efforts to win back single sex spaces for women and girls; well here is what we are doing!

Until today there was not a single group in the Conservative Party who centred the rights of women, so we are proud to announce the launch of 'Conservatives For Women'.

We are a group of Conservative Party members who will campaign within the public sphere, and in the heart of Westminster, to raise awareness of issues which threaten the safety and dignity of women. We will defend science, reason, free speech and the need for open, tolerant debate that underpins our society.

Come and join us! You don't have to be a party member or even a voter, you just have to care about the rights of women and girls.

We are working cross party with all the other political women's groups to inform and influence our peers and MPs.

How topsy-turvy is this political world when Labour are busily expelling women for having views and labelling their organised women as hate groups?! 🤔

fatblackcatspaw · 05/12/2020 11:45

I find your tweet very helpful. Thank you for campaigning. (old pissed off lefty)

MedusasBadHairDay · 05/12/2020 11:46

Are you a single issue group or will you be campaigning for other issues that disproportionately affect women, eg. Austerity.

ConservativesForWomen · 05/12/2020 12:01

We make our views known to our MPs on a number of issues that disproportionately affect women, but we are publicly campaigning purely on women's rights.

highame · 05/12/2020 12:04

Well, I'm in. Women need to show that they will cut across political lines in support of the rights of women.

YouNoob · 05/12/2020 12:20

Life long Labour supporter here, but politically homeless. Cross-party group working with other women's group sounds perfect - exactly what we need. I'm in too.

NonnyMouse1337 · 05/12/2020 12:23

Great to see this being started up. It's good to have all the political parties being challenged from within.

CaraDuneRedux · 05/12/2020 12:26

From another old lefty, good luck. Your declaration looks spot on to me, and I wish you all the best (firm believer that for democracy to function, both ends of the political spectrum have to be doing a good job in defending what they believe in and standing up for free speech and debate).

Tanith · 05/12/2020 12:29

"Cross-party group working with other women's group sounds perfect - exactly what we need. I'm in too."

How can it be considered cross party when it's called the Conservatives For Women?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/12/2020 12:32

I have never voted Tory. But, if you support my rights to single sex spaces then I will.

I'm so over political parties pretending they care for women. Good for you.

Jintyfer · 05/12/2020 12:33

Brilliant. I'm in too. Our MP is Conservative, quite traditionally so, but he's across the issues we face and understands them.

housemdwaswrong · 05/12/2020 12:36

@tanith my thoughts exactly. And as much as I'd support women's rights, coming from a party that supports a woman who is a known bully, all credibility is killed for me. Each to their own. Though I'm a tad surprised that people are so easily swayed to vote tory on this one premise regardless of everything else.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/12/2020 12:37

Another lifelong Labourite here, send my membership card back because of their lack understanding.

I am tentatively in... I hate being politically homeless!

ConservativesForWomen · 05/12/2020 12:43

As we said: "We are working cross party with all the other political women's groups to inform and influence our peers and MPs."

I’m in thank you and following in twitter - you are doing very important work.

GingerJonesy · 05/12/2020 12:56

I was a lifelong Labour voter until I woke up to the terrible threat to women that self-ID poses. (Thank you JKR!) I joined the Conservative Party, and have found them very receptive and supportive about preserving safe spaces for women - changing rooms, bathrooms, hospital wards, prisons and refuges. This is the most important political issue for me, my elderly mum-in-law, and my teenage daughter, and I support this new group.

Winesalot · 05/12/2020 13:02

Is this the Baroness’ party that we are waiting to join?

YouNoob · 05/12/2020 13:12

@Winesalot

Is this the Baroness’ party that we are waiting to join?
I was just going to ask that. And who else is involved, if you can tell us?
Floisme · 05/12/2020 13:13

Neither a member nor a voter but I will definitely take a look. I feel badly let down by my own party on this issue and have no objection to working across party lines.
And how anyone on the left has the brass neck to talk about bullying is beyond me.

MsMarvellous · 05/12/2020 13:17

Was coming to ask the same as @YouNoob. Who is "in" from the party so far.

I followed on twitter, signed up for updates on campaigns, and am very pleased you're working cross party

GingerJonesy · 05/12/2020 13:20

@Winesalot

Is this the Baroness’ party that we are waiting to join?
This is not the Baroness' party, but there are close links and I hope that she will support publicly.
GingerJonesy · 05/12/2020 13:20

Look! They've got nice postcards to send to people who stand up for women - Rosie Duffield springs to mind. www.conservativesforwomen.org/women-say-thank-you

GingerJonesy · 05/12/2020 13:30

The Board are Conservative Party members, and we have relationships with Councillors, MPs and Peers. We have already had questions asked in the Lords, and worked cross-party with questions asked in the Commons. By growth of numbers, campaigns and emails, we hope to grow our voice within the Party until it cannot be ignored. Today is a very, very good start. ('We', ok, you've rumbled me! )

PerkingFaintly · 05/12/2020 13:39

Wha...?

What's with the fakery, GingerJonesy? Why not just say from the start you were involved, rather than pretend "they" have nice postcards.

FFS.

Is this really the foot you want the group to get off on?
