Reading that full judgement is shocking. In very moderate terms it lays out how vulnerable children have been treated with experimental drugs, no research completed, no regard for associated mental illnesses, children set on a path of lifetime surgery and medication and asked to make decisions about their future fertility and sex lives that no child can ever comprehend.
This isn't just a resigning matter - it's a disciplinary matter that should lead to sacking.

PronounssheRa · 01/12/2020 12:03

nauticant

Treatment is safe and fully reversible but there is an extreme risk of harm if sudden withdrawal of treatment

misscockerspaniel · 01/12/2020 12:04

Keira you are a Star. Thank you Smile

Tannins · 01/12/2020 12:05

With all that the judgement details - the response of the fox hater is to promote children buying the drugs on the dark web and funding private treatment outside the country? Oh my....

yourhairiswinterfire · 01/12/2020 12:05

'Keira calls for better mental health services and an end to homophobia'.

I'm glad to see the underlying homophobia of this ideology acknowledged publicly.

Tantrum of the first order I assume.

RozWatching · 01/12/2020 12:07

@nauticant

We're building a list:
  • "We never said born in the wrong body or if we did we didn't mean it"
  • "The Keira Bell case changes nothing, consent was required before, consent is required now"

What other counterfactuals are there?

Mermaids: "Cis people fancy the opposite sex" "No, it's not possible that homophobia is a factor"

It is absolutely chilling how this has been allowed to go on for so long with such little scrutiny.

@yourhairiswinterfire

Keira has been awarded 80% costs, according to ObjectUK.
The crowdfunding has more than covered that 20%, so that’s OK, I guess. Wonder what the rationale is for 80 though?

Fan-bloody-tastic.

Keira you have done an amazing job. Thank you.

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:08

That whole thread by Jo needs archiving if anyone can.

As Douglas Murray has just tweeted - there should now be a full enquiry into the Tavistock.
MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:09

Cross post, thanks betty ❤️

littlbrowndog · 01/12/2020 12:09

Yes lack of evidence base by the Tavistock

nauticant · 01/12/2020 12:10

Can you open the link in a private or incognito browser MaudTheInvincible? (Although maybe you're on a mobile.)

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:10

That might by why a temporary hold on referrals has to happen.

There may need to be a huge safeguarding review.

And that bloody QC is tweeting where everyone else can go in the meantime Angry

MaudTheInvincible · 01/12/2020 12:10

@MindTheMinotaur

I would expect a charity focussed on support of transgender children to be ripping into the poor quality of evidence and treatment from GIDS and seeking to hold them to account. Surely that's what typical advocate groups would do?
That would normally be the case. I've never ever heard of another advocacy group who campaign against research into or development of a robust evidence-base for their clients' healthcare.

Wowzers! What with the ‘lush bombshell’ yesterday there will be a fair amount of gnashing of teeth and nasty fallouts from this.

Watch out all, there’s a storm a’ comin’

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 01/12/2020 12:10

This is amazing. Who cares if the TRAs also think its a win, fine, everbody's happy, that's great! I'm sure they'll all be petitioning GIDS not to appeal the judgement if that's the case. I'm sure many parents will sleep more soundly tonight knowing that there is now an extra layer of gatekeeping between their children and life long medical damage.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/12/2020 12:13

That Huff Post article contains this utter twaddle
"But Fenella Morris QC, representing the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, said the use of hormone blockers “has been widely researched and debated for three decades”.

She added: “It is a safe and reversible treatment with a well-established history.” "

Oh fuck off, you ignorant twat!

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/12/2020 12:13

I’m wondering how many teens are actually breathing a sigh of relief. It’s taken out of their hands then - they can take a step back and reflect rather than be rushed along by ‘well meaning’ adults in their lives and ‘friends’ who egg them on.
