Trans clinics face puberty-blocker ban for under-17s

The 'benefit' of taking these drugs before puberty is complete just isn't there for girls, and it's arguable that it's not there for boys, either, since genital surgery is more difficult if they haven't gone through puberty as two well publicised cases have shown us.

It’s one of those things that the more you hold it up to the light, it’s completely threadbare and massively damaging.

Keeping everything crossed, sending the best of internet stranger wishes to Keira whatever happens. She is supported by so many women. Flowers

@Tootsweets23

I can't even begin to comprehend Keira losing. How could any court of law say that what happened to her was OK? That it is an acceptable medical practice? It wasn't OK and she is beyond brave to stand up and say so. My admiration for her is boundless.
I don't know how anyone could defend what was said in court.

They reckoned children could consent to losing their future sexual function because 'some 12 year olds are having sex anyway, so it is informed consent'. Hmm That sounds like a failed child being abused to me, how can anyone involved in a job that's supposed to have the best interests of children at heart say that so casually?

Also 'meh, girls can have their eggs harvested just in case they become infertile'. To rent someone else's womb later on, they meant. Do kids understand everything that that involves, including the high cost?

And if the child changes their mind later on after they've had treatment, it's all the parents fault because 'parental consent', and NOT the fault of healthcare professionals who shouldn't be fucking giving a potentially irreversible 'treatment' to a child if they can't be 100% sure it's the right one. Also not forgetting, when parents have it drummed into them that they can have a trans child or a dead one, of course they're going to go with the former.

I'll be gobsmacked if the judges are fine with all of that. It made me feel sick.

Crossing everything. Whatever happens, it has been exposed for what it is. That is an achievement in itself.
DeaconBoo · 01/12/2020 10:14

Hoping for the best, expecting the worst, here too. There would be huge consequences if she won, so tbh I can't see them changing the status quo, even though the arguments are solid.

Kaliorphic · 01/12/2020 10:14

The court ruling is expected at 10.30.

Keeping everything crossed that common sense will prevail.

OvaHere · 01/12/2020 10:15

Wishing Keira all the best today. She has a lot of support whatever the ruling.

RozWatching · 01/12/2020 10:17

Me too, but when there are actual healthcare professionals who are apparently fine with it, nothing would surprise me.

Highwind · 01/12/2020 10:18

Everything crossed for Keira today!

On that vein, does anyone know if there was a court transcript for the hearing? I have looked but can’t find one though I am certain that there were some live tweets from the people in the courtroom that highlighted a few quotes and lack of data from the Tavistock defence that painted them as not at all competent.

I think it would make for some harrowing but enlightening reading to some.

Collidascope · 01/12/2020 10:19

I hope though don't really expect that common sense will prevail.

And there's an interview with Keira on the Feminist Current podcast today.

ChattyLion · 01/12/2020 10:23

Can someone tell me where I should look at 10.30?

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/12/2020 10:24

There’s someone on twitter tweeting. I will have a look and see who it is.

@Belstaffie I think

YouNoob · 01/12/2020 10:25

Just started a new thread.

fastwigglylines · 01/12/2020 10:30

Heather Brunskill Evans and Object are also live tweeting I think.

Heather's here:

fastwigglylines · 01/12/2020 10:31

Also look at the latest tweets using the hashtag #IStandWithKeiraBell

fastwigglylines · 01/12/2020 10:33

Apparently Janice Turner (of the Times) and also Helen Lewis haven't been abor to get into court because of tight restrictions on numbers.

I hope they still report it even so.

DeaconBoo · 01/12/2020 10:37

Object is saying they (as in Keira) won!
?!

PatsArrow · 01/12/2020 10:41

I feel quite emotional.

ChattyLion · 01/12/2020 10:43

OMG

dianebrewster · 01/12/2020 10:49

Thank the goddess! Brilliant. We need the details though....

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/12/2020 11:10

I'm relieved and delighted, but, also sad for my friend who's child started cross sex hormones because they thought it was the right thing to do.

It isn't the right thing to do.

Thank you, Kiera. You are very brave and we are very grateful.
