Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

@jj1968 a conference for close to a 1,000 people was held in February of this year.

jj1968 · 29/11/2020 23:18

@StillAFeminist

Sigh.

jj1968 Turnover and Income are different things

Please tell me you dont work in finance Shock

Yes your quite correct, £45k turnover, we dont know their profit from trading activities because it isn't broken down in their financial statement, although if you include the research grant it looks like they made a profit.

£5000 in legal fees is pretty shocking though given unincorporated associations can't take legal action, own property or enter into formal contracts.

persistentwoman · 29/11/2020 23:21

Yup - they are very interested in the law and how it works - see here:

StillAFeminist · 29/11/2020 23:22

jj1968 Yes your quite correct
Thank-you

I’d best not tell you my day rate if you think that’s shocking Grin

persistentwoman · 29/11/2020 23:26

Love this thread - so many opportunities to showcase a great campaigning women's organisation like WPUK

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/11/2020 23:30

They've also published a chilling account of the silencing of women in the labour party.

That was really awful. Recommended reading. People with control of the narrative are manipulating the use of virtual conferencing to push their agenda.

Yes we all know how loaded a lot of GC activists are. And I think it shows in the entilement that seems to be a ommon theme including here. WPUK think they are perfectly entitled to send out threatening legal letters threatening to sue for defamation when they have no grounds to do so as they cannot be legally defamed, however they don't want to do the basic due dilligence that would mean someone could do the same to them. They think they should have the right to sue, or at least use legal threats to silence criticism, but not be subject to the same pressures or accountability themselves.

Wow - posting on a feminist board complaining about women earning their own income that ...(checks notes) "shows the entitlement" Grin Grin

Heaven forfend that women should ever have careers, be successful, have an independent income.... Methinks someone's anti-women views are being displayed (yet again)

Put the scold’s bridle on, Karen!
MaudTheInvincible · 29/11/2020 23:54

If you use solicitor's letters to request your rights are respected, rather than a baying twitter mob, you are a right wing, bigoted, wealthy, wrong side of history, dark money, wrong crowd, nazi, kkk, witch. So ner.

Mollyollydolly · 29/11/2020 23:56

The delightful David Paisley is ranting about Lush tonight .. lining them up for his next 'campaign.' The delicious irony it being Lush.

Can’t win, we’re either regarded as “just mums” and irrelevant or if regarded as earning a professional income we’re entitled Grin

I’m resolutely non apologetic for being a woman who has worked hard and achieved professional success as well as worked hard at being a mum and a grandmother

334bu · 30/11/2020 00:02

Is that the same David Paisley whose letter denouncing some "horrible mean women who won't shut up " was signed by some people who didn't even know that such a letter existed?

boatyardblues · 30/11/2020 00:03

Aside from showcasing what a tight ship WPUK and how well they are using available funds, this thread is pure comedy gold. 🤣

💪 to all you no-nonsense (awful harpies) professional women for explaining how it is out in the real world, as opposed to the conspiracy theorist whackjob Twittersphere. 👌

The very same. He's a busy lad, cancelling Boyz, defaming women in Scotland, supporting Irish Amnesty, and now Lush. What a week!

Indeed StillAFeminist I think Rebecca West best summed up that type of misogynistic thinking when she said I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat

Some people would like women to be silent and kept away from influence and the public /professional space. It's not often seen on here but at the moment.....

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/11/2020 00:12

Them nasty witches, thinking they're entitled to defend themselves against lies! Why won't they just fucking stay quiet whilst we're trying to burn them, dammit!

jj1968 · 30/11/2020 00:15

@StillAFeminist

Your response to someone thinking £5000 is a lot of money was basically ha ha I'd better not tell you my daily rate. £5000 is what sickness benefit claimants are expected to live on for a year. It's a lot of money to a lot of us, and I was in criticising your flippancy not the fact you have a successful career.

@Al77

Nice work WPUK. Honesty and transparency.

Good news about Lush, though I am not fully convinced, they are selling Trans flag soap, and then all the shop window sign shenanigans and the gender pay gap headlines. I emailed Lush PR department to say I am watching with interest and would really like to resume buying from them as I will miss my orchid cleanser when it runs out. They don't need to support women's groups, they just need to remain unbiased and not take sides.

I also use bath bombs, henna blocks, ultrabland, lust perfume, vanilla perfume, tea tree cleanser and buy stocking fillers from there, so I hope they are going to stay neutral in future or I'm gone for good.
I have found a marvellous long term substitute for all my proctor and gamble products since the tampax debacle so I expect I can find good alternatives to my Lush favorites too.

This happened the other year www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44356733

They're still exploitative muppets afaik.

The individuals running WPUK can be defamed, if they are associated with the allegations made against the association. Similarly, the individuals running WPUK can be sued if defamatory statements are made by WPUK.

HTH. Yes, I am a lawyer.
