Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

Your response to someone thinking £5000 is a lot of money was basically ha ha I'd better not tell you my daily rate. £5000 is what sickness benefit claimants are expected to live on for a year. It's a lot of money to a lot of us, and I was in criticising your flippancy not the fact you have a successful career.[/quote]
And I was pointing out it isn’t that many days of professional advice

jj1968 · 30/11/2020 01:08

@WildishBambino

WPUK think they are perfectly entitled to send out threatening legal letters threatening to sue for defamation when they have no grounds to do so as they cannot be legally defamed. They think they should have the right to sue, or at least use legal threats to silence criticism, but not be subject to the same pressures or accountability themselves.

The individuals running WPUK can be defamed, if they are associated with the allegations made against the association. Similarly, the individuals running WPUK can be sued if defamatory statements are made by WPUK.

HTH. Yes, I am a lawyer.

True, although if it was personal litigation then it might be reasonable to expect them to use their own money rather than use money held in collective trust intended to fight for women's rights.

@Mollyollydolly

The delightful David Paisley is ranting about Lush tonight .. lining them up for his next 'campaign.' The delicious irony it being Lush.
I logged out of Twitter so I could see as I'm blocked by him. He's in a demented rant about Joanna Cherry- demanding that she responds to him. He is deeply unpleasant.
Clymene · 30/11/2020 05:13

How kind of you to worry where hard working women's donations have gone @jj1968

I'm perfectly happy if they've used some of the money I've given them in taking proportionate legal advice. Just for the record.

Oxyiz · 30/11/2020 06:30

Wait a minute - so now transactivists think we're all super rich? Then why did they all say things were funded by religious extremists?

(FWIW I don't earn much but even I know 5k is not much in legal fees.)

Deltoids1 · 30/11/2020 06:52

JJ, our village football club turnsover more than WPUK.

Perhaps you can stop digging yourself a hole now.

SophocIestheFox · 30/11/2020 06:55

If you’re looking for consistency, oxyiz, then I’m afraid you’re in for a disappointment Grin

The main issue seems to be nasty entitled rich women using their ill gotten gains that they’ve both earned off the backs of the exploited, and been given gratis by shady right wing types through donations to completely different organisations, to set up a shoddy structure for unknown nefarious ends, which they’ve managed to fuck up despite spaffing vast sums on unneeded lawyers. They need reported immediately to the HMRC for not paying taxes they don’t owe. Any unsubstantiated accusation can be flung at them, but they should on no account attempt to prevent this, or defend themselves.

I think that’s about the sum of it.

Deliriumoftheendless · 30/11/2020 07:57

Honestly we need a fire extinguisher in here for the amount of times someone’s pants are on fire.

Clymene · 30/11/2020 08:02

I think that's a fair summary Sophocles

I just want to correct something in my last post - by 'some of the money' I didn't mean I'd given WPUK more than £5,000. Just in case I'm suspected of being a one woman evil right wing cabal.

SophocIestheFox · 30/11/2020 08:06

I’m afraid we’ll need to hold off until jj gets here to make an arbitration on whether in fact YOU are the shady right wing cabal, clymene.

Yes, it’s a lot of money to an individual.

Which is why we all crowd fund WPUK and others in (mostly) 10s and 20s, so they have the ability to spend 5 grand on legal fees when necessary.

Many (most?) of the GC legal crowdfunders have raised over 50k each (and counting) so we are well aware how much it costs to employ expert advice.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/11/2020 09:05

This thread is hilarious. The flailing.

@jj1968

I don't really care that much, just find it interesting that they don't seem to care that much either.
Ah! All that ignoring information must really hurt!

Be told, will you? They aren't doing anything wrong!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/11/2020 09:17

Yes we all know how loaded a lot of GC activists are. Ah! But those nice peeps at WPUK even showed you how much the average donation is, in a coupel of different circumsatnces AND explained why they don't take large donations!

THINK DAMMIT!!! THINK!!!!!

Cos we really can see you!

StillAHarpie · 30/11/2020 09:47

There’s one poster here who seems to think A woman’s place is in the wrong Grin

purpleboy · 30/11/2020 10:08

Doesn't anyone feel sorry for JJ? Imagine spending so much of your time on FWR constantly arguing with women that you clearly despise, it must be a very sad life indeed.
JJ I really hope you find something good in your life that you can enjoy, rather than spending all your time fighting women.

DickKerrLadies · 30/11/2020 10:26

I think we may have an entrant for quote of the year here:

jj1968 "I don't really care that much"

Thanks for that, it's been a rough morning and I really needed that laugh.

DeaconBoo · 30/11/2020 11:16

We’re wasting our time here if you’re just going to make stuff up and keep repeating it.

This is basically the motto of modern feminism, isn't it Grin

Clymene · 30/11/2020 11:22

I think I feel a name change coming on ... Grin

Tanith · 30/11/2020 11:23

"The outrage on twitter about the (relatively tiny) Lush grant is something to behold!"

As we guessed last week, the reason they're making a fuss about GC financial accounts is because they want to target the donators.

I’d feel more sorry for Lush if they hadn’t been so hateful to women & women’s rights via their shops. Bizarre them doing that but quietly making small donations.

Frankly they would have served women and themselves better by doing neither. The trans lobby turns on those who step out of line with a truly shocking level of vitriol.

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/11/2020 11:37

Well Lush are about to realise the truth of what we've been saying when they see the behaviour that is about to be unleashed on them. And experience first hand that fairness and even handedness are not virtues in this looking glass culture, and there's no apology sufficiently abject to ever be enough. It's an experience that has clarified many people's views.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 30/11/2020 11:42

I’m not a nice person. I hate the idea of anyone losing a job or stores closing - and I’m sure Lush will survive (or resurrect like Cosmetics to Go) but I hope those who chose the strategy are furiously manning the hose pipes to put out these particular fires and rethinking their bright ideas of getting staff to work naked or inviting creepy guys to kiss them ‘wherever’.

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/11/2020 11:49

Wasn't it Lush who said they'd remove anyone from their shop wearing an Adult Human Female t-shirt? And whinged about some stickers?

Oops. They may be about to discover where the real hatred comes from.
