Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

@Deltoids1

Marvellous, thank you. Have you reported them to HMRC for trading though?
They are free to trade, they are a charity, and prior to that they were a company. If you look on the annual reports on their website it also shows they paid Corporation Tax.
WildishBambino · 30/11/2020 22:48

But Unincorporated Associations can also have trading or business objectives or carry on commercial activities. Perfectly legal and therefore organisations use this structure. The government positively encourages it.

Its individual members are legally responsible for all the acts and omissions of the organisation. In many ways the people who run WPUK have more personal legal liability than someone working for a charity or Ltd company as WPUK has no separate legal personality from its members.

Yes but that doesn't get them out of reporting responsibilities for tax purposes. Perhaps they've done that and they've got a different set of accounts they haven't showed us because from what's on the website it's very difficult to establish whether they have made a profit or not. Or where any money might end up, there's no information given on their constitution. Or who they even are as individuals. It's not very transparent is it? And if a trans organisation behaved the same way they would get slaughtered on here.
PaleBlueMoonlight · 30/11/2020 23:09

I don’t get it, why do you care if WPUK or any other organisation is or is not a charity? Are you worried for the people donating?

Why do you think all organisations which are not charities or companies are corrupt? Or is it just this one?

Apparently jj doesn’t care. Not one bit. Totally disinterested in anything to do with WPUK. Would rather watch paint dry than spend time thinking about them.
PaleBlueMoonlight · 30/11/2020 23:17

Trans organisations that are charities I would expect to do what they needed to do to keep their charitable status. Those which are not, I would not. If they said they were a charity, but weren’t, then that would be a problem.

How I might feel about what the organisations actually do and how they behave is quite separate. It would probably interest me if they were a charity and breached charity law.

I'm not worried either way. I don't care if all the money is going in someone's back pocket or they dodge their taxes, that's up to them and the people who give them money. I do care about them issuing legal threats to silence criticism when they have no grounds to as an unincorporated association.
334bu · 30/11/2020 23:31

💤😪

PaleBlueMoonlight · 30/11/2020 23:37

Oh I see, you want to understand the legal basis on which they would bring a claim if they actually wanted to do so? You are concerned that they might not have one? One for the lawyers I imagine.

If they did have a legal basis would you feel better about it?

StillAHarpie · 30/11/2020 23:47

jj1968 it is untrue to say there is no information to say who they are as individuals, that info is provided here womansplaceuk.org/2020/02/11/we-are-womans-place-uk/

Out of curiosity how many false statements/accusations have to be disproved before you feel embarrassed?

They are the founders, there's no information what role they play in governance, if any. Who is responsible for the money?
OldCrone · 01/12/2020 00:02

Who is responsible for the money?

Why do you care jj? If you think they're doing something wrong, then report them to HMRC or something. What's the point of all this mud slinging on here about them? What are you trying to achieve?

334bu · 01/12/2020 00:37

Why is WPUK always under attack no matter what they do? Perhaps one or all of the following might hold the answer?

1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do.
2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.
4th rule of misogyny: Women's opinions are violence against men thus male violence against women is justified.
5th rule of misogyny: Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.
6th rule of misogyny: Women who go around being female AT men by menstruating and breast feeding babies deserve punishment.
7th rule of misogyny: Women should always be grateful to men for everything.
8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
9th rule of misogyny: Men always know the "real reasons" for everything women do and say.
10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad*

I'm discussing their accounts, on a thread on a discussion board about their accounts, just like everyone else on this thread. There are thousands of posts on this forum discussing trans supportive organisations, but one trans person has the nerve to discuss a GC organisation and apparently it's none of my business and misogyny. The double standards are breathtaking.

Yes, there have been threads about Stonewall and Mermaids and other similar organisations, but I don't think any of them have had repetitive accusations about not declaring their taxes or anything.

There have been threads about the way they are financed with public money and are taking money off companies and public bodies whose employees are then 'trained' in interesting interpretations of the Equality Act. But this sort of scrutiny is important with these charities which receive a lot of government funding. And of course the effect on the organisations which have received this 'training' is also worth discussing.

If you think what WPUK is campaigning for is inappropriate, perhaps you would like to elaborate on what it is you think is wrong with their stated aims and we could discuss that. It might be more productive than just continuing to bleat that you think there's something wrong with the way they handle their finances. You've made your point there (again and again and again), and I think your next action should be to contact HMRC if you really think there's something amiss.

There's no point in you continuing to repeat yourself over and over because we've seen it already. This is getting as bad as your toilet obsession on other threads.

Deltoids1 · 01/12/2020 07:17

This thread is hilarious. I’ve now reported to the HMRC the WPUK, the local football club and the old folks lunch club for using perfectly legal structures to carry out their activities for their members.

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 07:29

As this thread is being so helpfully kept at the top of the board, thought it would be useful to link WPUK's thoughts on the pandemic and domestic and sexual violence. It's important reading .

womansplaceuk.org/coronavirus-urgent-actions-needed-to-end-domestic-and-sexual-violence/

CousinKrispy · 01/12/2020 07:38

Thanks for highlighting that, persistent woman. There's some good links in there to other groups campaigning on this issue. It's been good to see some media coverage about the horrible increase in domestic abuse during the pandemic, but it would be great to see some action taken by the government.

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 08:07

Thank you Krispy. There were some things I hadn't considered - I've always considered the length of time it takes to get a DBS for example, as just a bureaucratic irritation but of course, on occasions it's critical when filling a post working with vulnerable women / children is being delayed.

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 08:10

Some organisations really "punch above their weight" don't they? Donating to organisations like WPUK, Fair Play for Women and Transgender Trend is such good value as they are having such a positive impact on ensuring women and children's rights and safety as well as all their sterling work on ethical medical practice and the law.
Brilliant women. Flowers

Winesalot · 01/12/2020 09:15

Sadly, it is like other threads where posters ignore the fact they have no evidence to support their claims, and state that they don’t wish to actually read what the ‘hate’ group is saying (which is actually completely in line with, you know, safeguarding and government guidelines) because ... well that might expose them to their ignorance...

However, these posters (and there are a few) continue to go around and around and around trying all kind of tactics, which just continue to prove how biased and completely uninformed their position is. Is it to bury the reasoned and informed posts under an avalanche of spurious and distractionary posts?

I love the fact that some of these posters say they direct their mates over to see the ‘witches’ when any person looking sees that really unfounded claims get refuted with facts that are easily found and checked.

MaudTheInvincible · 01/12/2020 09:20

Is it to bury the reasoned and informed posts under an avalanche of spurious and distractionary posts?

Yes, I think it is to do that, and to totally derail the meaningful discussion on the topics at hand and make women talk about whatever the bad-faith poster wants.

StillAHarpie · 01/12/2020 09:38

JJ1968 being a bit disingenuous here Grin

jj you are discussing these on a feminist forum, making countless posts with baseless accusations and the women on this board have been politely pointing out in what way your accusations are false with many links to government organisations etc and urging you to contact the Hmrc if you really believe wpuk are not paying tax. You are also being unpleasant in how you berate some of the posters and yes we do think your posts show misogyny. Although honestly by this point i think most of us are bewildered at the continuation of your baseless accusations more than anything else

Do you really believe a lone woman venturing onto a trans forum would be treated as politely? If so please point me to such a forum and I’ll go post Hmm

Winesalot · 01/12/2020 09:55

The positive is that through the constant wriggling and diverting, these threads become very informative, so it is an own goal. Like demands to ‘educate yourself’.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 01/12/2020 09:59

It was being told to educate myself that bought me here, through the radicalisation portal!
