It appears to have been in a male prison. Both killer and victim seems to be horrible people. The killer apparently also had thoughts about killing people and eating them and would have killed more, but had “too much fun” with his victim. He had many issues, among them gender identity disorder, buried in the text towards the end.

I know the Huckle story, he preyed upon vulnerable children in orphanages through his Church connections in Malaysia.

I'm not sorry he is dead, I do feel for his mother though as she has lost her son from before he was a paedophile.

There's nothing to suggest he's transitioned or intends to. At least not yet.

I am just very uncomfortable with male born sexual predators (and murderers) who claim to have a gender identity disorder. Regardless of whether this is one of many disorders (as it appears to be here) or something that is claimed as a defence, there seem to be a number of violent sexual predators who claim a gender identity disorder.

I doubt these people will be miraculously model citizens once transitioned (if they actually do transition) and I don’t want them to self ID into women’s spaces, be included in female crime statistics or be locked up in women’s prisons.

I'm uncomfortable with prisoners murdering other prisoners.

It goes without saying that it is horrific when prisoners murder other prisoners.

But we are constantly being told that there is no problem with self ID and that there is no evidence that self ID trans women have a different offending rate to biological females.

And then this lovely specimen pops up. I am in no way saying that this is all trans women. I believe that many here know very kind individuals. But I fail to see how anyone can read about the person in the article and not think that there may be a problem with self ID (and indeed with some people who purports to live as women in order to get a GRC).

I think you'd be right to be uncomfortable with that and the women whose prison they end up in would be also.

This seems to sum up the problem, the Gender Identity/Trans issue rests entirely on the word of the individual, so there is no way at all to ascertain their motivations (unless you're the person in Ireland who shouts from the rooftops about their intentions and still gets put into a women's prison but hey).

Violent convicted criminals are maybe more likely to take advantage of any possibility to improve or influence their situation so why is anyone in their right mind allowing them to self id into women's prisons?

Obviously this criminal is not at that point yet but if he has stated GI issues, presumably that is not an impossible development.

Bloody hell.
What I'd take from that is that there are some vile, violent sexual abusers.
Some of them are, or pretend to be, Christian.
Others are, or pretend to be, suffering from 'gender identity' disorders.
No doubt there are others with all manner of excuses and duplicity.

The only thing in common apart from their crimes is their sex.

One less nonce in the world is fine by me.

I think the OP is right to be wary.

It might be that the killer has multiple personalities as his identity disorder or he might identify as the opposite sex.

If the latter, as is well proven by now, what with specific campaigns being set up to not record men's crimes as committed by women and the Keep Prisons Single Sex campaign, men can just Self ID into women's prisons.

Violent crime is overwhelmingly committed by men so this man in particular could say he was a woman and be moved into a prison with women, maybe even one with a mother and baby unit.

It's not an unreasonable concern to have and I share it too.

I read this story - it did strike me that the killer (who garrotted his victim & expressed an interest in eating him) did not appear be channeling what might be described as the more traditional, stereotypical feminine qualities.

He’s obviously highly disturbed. What baffles me most is how he managed to acquire the various weapons he used. It does not speak well of prison security- and surely he was known to be a danger?

I dunno, it seemed to work that way for Karen White. Of course he was eventually moved back to a men's prison, AFTER he'd sexually assaulted two female prisoners.

(Note to those with trigger happy report fingers: Justine MN herself confirmed to me that it's okay to use male pronouns for convicted rapists.)

That was 3 years ago and these decisions are subject to serious scrutiny. There is a a whole set of procedures in place.
