J.K. Rowling is to guest on Graham Norton’s Radio 2 show, to talk about her new book The Ickabog, a new fairy tale about a mythical monster, a kingdom in peril and an adventure that will test two children’s bravery.

The author will join Graham on this Saturday morning show from 10am on 14 November, 2020.

Also on the programme...

Lastly, Graham talks to the writers of SIX The Musical, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, which is scheduled to reopen in the West End with a series of socially distanced performances at The Lyric Theatre soon.

what is wrong with these people?

I hadn't heard of Six, so I looked it up on Wikipedia.

It says it's co-authored by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Lucy does not have a Wikipedia page. Toby does, although like Lucy his only claim to fame is the musical. Why does Toby have a page, but Lucy doesn't?

Not only that, but Toby's page doesn't mention Lucy in the body of his entry. (She is only mentioned in the references, as her name appears in the titles of three references). However, the producer (a man) is mentioned in Toby's entry. Hmm

StandWitch · 15/11/2020 11:42

Toby Marlow is an up-himself dick from what I can see.

Have you seen the first version of his page?

en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Toby_Marlow&oldid=289239122

He has been in many plays, including Hope Springs recently at Abingdon School, where he played an island voice. Close friend Georgia [censored] played lead charecter Sam, and very much enjoyed working with him. Katy [] played pupil 2.

Toby is currently 14 and lives in Henley. He very much enjoys acting, and would like to say thank you to Katy [] and girlfriend Georgia [] for making this site.

So he's been getting women to do his emotional labour since the was a scrawny teenager.

What an absolute fucking wanker.

Abingdon School is £43k/year, btw.

J K Rowling, world renowned author.
Marlow and Moss - who?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/11/2020 11:54

Ooh Ikabog for £10. Thanks

SophocIestheFox · 15/11/2020 12:01

Sheesh, what a pair of nanas.

What did they think she was going to do, do a thought crime next to them? Say terrible words they disagree with?

CodenameVillanelle · 15/11/2020 12:09

I've bought three copies of the ickabog and one of the strike books for Christmas presents this year, as well as the beautiful illustrated mina lima philosopher's stone. I also might buy the illustrated prisoner of Azkaban to go with the other illustrated copies just for my collection.

WhatsthetruthRuth · 15/11/2020 12:09

If you’ve ever thought about going to the West End to see a Musical, you will have heard of Six. It’s been very successful so I don’t think saying ‘well I‘ve never heard of it’ means anything other than musicals are obviously not your bag. OK it will be better known to those living in the South of England because y’know, London’s West End and all that. Its success will have taken a pounding because of Corona’s impact and this type of publicity will do a great job of keeping its profile high. It’s a show of ‘High Camp does Horrible Histories’ so is also incredibly middle class. Do not expect any compassion for the lives of women suffering domestic violence and seeking women only spaces, or engagement on the safety of puberty blockers - they’re showbiz darling. A child actor who went to private school and then Cambridge - he really knows about life!

I’m glad I didn’t have to listen to their witterings on the radio because it would have been as predictable as hell.

KiposWonderbeasts · 15/11/2020 12:09

The Ickabog is £10 at Waterstones too, for anyone wanting to avoid the tax-avoiding monolith

Al1langdownthecleghole · 15/11/2020 12:18

@Ereshkigalangcleg

If there's anything that the story of Henry VIII and his wives can tell us, it's about male power and biological sex roles. Idiots.
Was going to say this. Not sure a musical is in great taste, but accept that I have seen and probably never will.

A musical of the ickabog with it's nice moral tale would work nicely.

Scout2016 · 15/11/2020 12:18

@KiposWonderbeasts thanks, that's decided it for me, I'll get it. I haven't shopped with amazon for years. Not just the tax, also the shitty way staff were treated in the "wish fulfillment centres".

Scout2016 · 15/11/2020 12:20

Anyone else looking forward to the Father Ted Musical and hoping it's not rubbish? Everytime I think about it I do a mental double take, like maybe I've just imagined such a thing because it just seems so unlikely.

HecatesCats · 15/11/2020 12:20

this type of publicity will do a great job of keeping its profile high

I'm almost certain that appearing on the GN show would be far more beneficial from a positive marketing perspective than gaining some woke points on Twitter and a pat on the back from Pink News.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 15/11/2020 12:22

@NotBadConsidering

1986 version:

Nursie: Out you popped and everyone’s shouting: “It’s a boy, it’s a boy!” And somebody said: “But it hasn’t got a winkle!” And I said: “God be praised, it’s a miracle. A boy without a winkle!” And then Sir Thomas More pointed out that a boy without a winkle is a girl. Everyone was really disappointed.

2020 version:

Nursie: Out you popped and everyone’s shouting: “It’s a boy, it’s a boy!” And somebody said: “But it hasn’t got a winkle!” And I said: “God be praised, it’s a miracle. A boy without a winkle!” And then Sir Thomas More pointed out that a boy without a winkle is a girl. Everyone called Sir Thomas More a transphobic bigot and he had his head chopped off and his remains were burned in a grease fire. And you were the future King! And your mum Anne Boleyn lived a long and happy life and kept her head, your dad only married twice overall, and in a few centuries time I expect a couple of village idiots will write a musical play all about it and call it “Two”.

I saw that last too notbad how I laughed.

The other 2020 version of course would be a boy with a winkle.

SophocIestheFox · 15/11/2020 12:23

If I name changed, my next name would be BoyWithoutAWinkle Grin

RuffleCrow · 15/11/2020 12:26

They're making themselves look as stupid as they are. Which is handy for anyone thinking of wasting money on their musical. As we used to say in the 90s: fine. Be like that.

BraveBananaBadge · 15/11/2020 12:30

That was my thought too @HecatesCats. Surely not everything has to be about trans ALL THE TIME. Would people really have called them out for being scheduled guests to promote their work on a light entertainment show because of who else is featured at a completely different time? Don’t answer that...

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 15/11/2020 12:40

i get what you mean Rufus and Codename, but I’m not sure dismissing them just because they’re nonentities small beans compared to JKR or Radio 2 or a massive publishing house is the way to go

I know you dont mean me in particular but I would like to make it very clear that in no way have I ‘dismissed’ them

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 15/11/2020 12:46

And I don’t want to labour a point but just because I haven’t heard of the sodding thing doesn’t mean that I haven’t watched musicals at the west end or indeed dislike musicals

And i know the song taylor the latte boy! Which is the most random musical number i can think of at this point in time

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 15/11/2020 12:47

Ooh... talking of sitcoms based in the Tudor period...

I’ve recently started watching Ben Elton’s Upstart Crow (4 years late to that party) and it is absolutely riddled with terven/anti woke jokes.

Not sure how I missed it completely (3 seasons, 2 Xmas specials) it even began a stage run, cut short by Covid.

www.theguardian.com/stage/2020/feb/23/upstart-crow-review-david-mitchell-ben-elton

It’s all on iplayer and the first 2 seasons are on Netflix.

andyoldlabour · 15/11/2020 12:49

"If you’ve ever thought about going to the West End to see a Musical, you will have heard of Six."

Nope, never heard of it, live in the South East and have seen dozens of musicals in the West End.
Perhaps the musicals I have seen are not well known - Cats, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Chicago, Wicked, Buddy etc.

andyoldlabour · 15/11/2020 12:55

It has only been going for a year in the West End, no wonder I haven't heard of it. Hardly up there with Lloyd Webber productions is it?

I loved Upstart Crow! Missed the last episode, but I've heard it'll make me cry so I'm putting it off.

Susannah is brilliant, she reminds me of myself as a teenager!

I'd imagine their Twitter is full of like minded souls, having used blockers for all those evil souls who's views differ.
WitchOfTheWest · 15/11/2020 13:02

@JonasKahnwald

Well I've just bought the ikabog off the back of this thread so probably not the outcome those two wokesters were hoping for 🤷‍♀️
Me too! An extra Christmas pressie for my 9yo. He will love it I'm sure.
