J.K. Rowling is to guest on Graham Norton’s Radio 2 show, to talk about her new book The Ickabog, a new fairy tale about a mythical monster, a kingdom in peril and an adventure that will test two children’s bravery.

The author will join Graham on this Saturday morning show from 10am on 14 November, 2020.

Also on the programme...

Lastly, Graham talks to the writers of SIX The Musical, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, which is scheduled to reopen in the West End with a series of socially distanced performances at The Lyric Theatre soon.

what is wrong with these people?

I've heard of Six but I couldn't tell you who wrote it.

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 23:45

Sorry ShallI, Brave-- did not know SIX so mocked freely (I am an idiot from nowhere) but... they asked for donations to Mermaids to make up for...what...? Mermaids? Sorry not sorry, and good on Graham Norton indeed.

FamilyOfAliens · 14/11/2020 23:46

Nope, never heard of them nor their musical but that’s because I don’t like musicals, not because I’m trying to make them seem more irrelevant than they are.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 14/11/2020 23:47

it seems to be the bog standard forgettable musical songs (and yes , so is Hamilton)

Yes wasn't impressed when I saw the Youyube trailer for the theatre production. I also only got part why through Hamilton when I watched it on Disney plus. I love musical theatre but I couldn't get into it.

ShallICompareTheeToASummersDay · 14/11/2020 23:48

Why though?! It’s not like they would have to be next to her in a studio / green room? Are they scared they would’ve been associated with her? Load of old codswallop if you ask me!

PamDenick · 14/11/2020 23:49

Did they really ask for donations to Mermaids? The charity that promotes medicalising children?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 14/11/2020 23:49

Shows you how much attention they pay if they are asking for donations to Mermaids. Haven't they seen the bad publicity?

SunsetBeetch · 14/11/2020 23:53

Pathetic

HecatesCats · 14/11/2020 23:53

Graham Norton's show used to average around 4 million listeners, don't know what it is nowadays, but I guess they don't need the exposure when they can live a guilt free life having thrown a woman who has given years of support to charity, spoken out about VAGW, and brought joy to millions of children under a bus.

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 23:54

Pam-- they really did

What a disappointment, they had an opportunity to air their views and promote their product, and instead they went for the lazy cancel culture option. Pathetic.

VulvaPerson · 15/11/2020 00:18

Also, if you’ve already bought her book / really want to read it but feel conflicted about it, u can always consider donating the same amount (£10) to Mermaids - a UK-based charity “helping gender-diverse kids, young people and their families”

FFS Hmm

This is just such a bizarre way of thinking.

Anotheruser02 · 15/11/2020 00:23

Yeah that's not very ordinary is it, if you already bought the book you can redeem by giving Mermaids the same amount (so they can tell another young gay kid that they're just in the wrong body).

VulvaPerson · 15/11/2020 00:26

'We don't really have anything against you engaging in wrongthink aslong as you pay some $$$ to us for the privilage'

Don't dole out your cash, and you can DIAF.

Blindingly0bvious · 15/11/2020 00:34

DIAGF, surely. Ok, we're conflicted, but we can pay for children to go down the puberty blocker/ cross sex hormone route so all good, right? Amiright?

Blindingly0bvious · 15/11/2020 00:36

Or, and this is just a suggestion-- be a grown-up, go on Graham Norton's program and promote your stuff. Is that so hard?

What a time to be alive.

Destinysdaughter · 15/11/2020 00:37

I didn't listen to GN today, does anyone know his thoughts on this?

And, yes they are idiots!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/11/2020 00:47

If there's anything that the story of Henry VIII and his wives can tell us, it's about male power and biological sex roles. Idiots.

Comefromaway · 15/11/2020 00:49

I have tickets to Six in December.

Considering asking for a refund.

Yup.

I’d genuinely never heard of them or this musical until this thread, but am I accurate in the conclusion that this pair have written a musical about the ultimate example of a male trampling all over the idea of women’s sex-based rights - chopping a woman’s head off because her womb didn’t produce the desired result - and how that man shouldn’t define a group of women, then called JK Rowling transphobic for defending women’s sex-based rights?

I’m right aren’t I? They really are that stupid?

PotholeParadies · 15/11/2020 02:59

Intriguing.

Did they really think they were in danger of being cancelled by their social circle for being on the same episode of Graham Norton? Has cancellation fervour got that bad?

Or did they think that taking this stance and the resulting twitter approval would increase ticket sales more than going on Graham Norton's show?

ValancyRedfern · 15/11/2020 06:18

Oh bugger I love SIX. Why are so many young clever people so monumentally unclever on this issue?!?!?

You are right.
CoffeeTeaChocolate · 15/11/2020 07:41

I like the songs I have heard from SIX and I will still try to see it with my children. I don’t believe in cancel culture.

I will also make a point of telling my children about how the authors were to afraid to show up at GN’s show and how beyond stupid that is. Drip drip drip making the next generation (mine are primary school aged) less stupid. I usually explain it with “these people think that Daddy should be able to shower with the women if he feels feminine that day”. I am usually met with the reply of “yuck, that is gross, why?”.

I think I will buy them one hardcover copy each of the Ickablog for Christmas. I do believe in supporting people and causes when I can.
