I mean I'm not surprised but Bitesize is used by schools through the country as a supposed reliable, unbiased source of education material.

You can complain here:

www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints/make-a-complaint

Or email your MP and cc MPs Safe Schools Alliance on info@safeschoolsallianceuk.

In the tweet thread there are some people already complaining. I'm not a defund the BBC kind of person but I can see why license fee layers are questioning what the BBC are doing with their money (there is a website 'BBC complaints' that's all about biased Brexit coverage).

Thanks for posting a thread. I posted a screenshot on the international pronouns thread but I'm furious about this. We use Bitesize as a resource regularly in our house - both at the school's direction and as an additional resource for homework.

I might have to bookmark the BBC complaints page at this rate!

Clymene · 22/10/2020 10:39

Oh! They've taken it down - well the tweet has gone. I'll check the website

Swallowzandamazons · 22/10/2020 10:45

Screenshot? Its gone...

MouseandCat · 22/10/2020 10:58

There's a whole bitesize area on this
www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zp6ftrd

And a tweet linking it in the BBC bitesize twitter account

gardenbird48 · 22/10/2020 11:00

www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zp6ftrd

it is still on the website - utter nonsense advised by Stonewall. When you at it next to the actual learning on grammar it makes no sense - you can tell it has not been written by an educator - it has a defensive tone.

I have written my complaint.

MouseandCat · 22/10/2020 11:03

Here's the screenshot.. sorry missing date ... not very good at this

They haven't deleted it - they've (presumably) just withdrawn and reposted it to avoid a pile-on:

From this morning.

I read on Claire's twitter that when she told the GP she had a DSD, the GP asked her pronouns Confused

The took the first tweet down but it's back up again. I had hoped someone had realised that directing children to stonewall which is in direct contravention of the government's guidance on RSE

Melroses · 22/10/2020 11:09

sorry - it didn't upload.

And you can't reply to it now. This is an educational resource provided by a publicly funded body and they don't want pesky parents interfering in their propaganda Angry

RozWatching · 22/10/2020 11:15

"How does this relate to non-binary people?

Non-binary is an umbrella term for people who don’t fit comfortably into ‘male’ or ‘female’ categories."

Seriously? Why push this on kids? How is this part of BBC Learning's remit?

Bessica1970 · 22/10/2020 11:19

What’s the problem with letting people know how to be inclusive?

Whether you agree with people choosing their gender or not - surely if you can make someone comfortable/happy by using their preferred pronoun you would?

ChickenonaMug · 22/10/2020 11:22

BBC Bitesize have retweeted but have prevented people from replying and pointing out the safeguarding concerns with it!

mobile.twitter.com/bbcbitesize/status/1319211222517059584

Why do the BBC want to prevent parents and children from understanding the safeguarding concerns around teaching children that if they do not feel comfortable in their ‘male or female categories’, then this means that they are ‘non-binary’?

Why are the BBC trying stop people on twitter from pointing out the safeguarding concerns around teaching children that they must accept ‘people for who they are and being inclusive of everyone, regardless of gender identity.‘?

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/10/2020 11:25

I dont think gaslighting children enables us to keep them safe. Its not the harmless inclusive gesture it makes out.

What about autistic children and those with LDs who would find it extremely distressing to ve forced to say something they can see isnt true

Bessica1970 · 22/10/2020 11:25

If someone identifies as non-binary, why does that bother so many people?
It reminds me of when gay people were historically vilified because straight people couldn’t handle that not everyone is like them!
It doesn’t hurt you if Gemma wants to be addressed as ze, so why have a problem with it?

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/10/2020 11:27

Gay people weren't asking fir anything that affected anyone else. Its a false equivalence.

No one was put in danger or gaslighted for accepting someone as gay . It required nothing from anyone else.

MouseandCat · 22/10/2020 11:27

My complaint: Stonewall advice on pronouns is informed by an ideological agenda which does not respect the biological category of women and girls. This has enormous implications for safeguarding. A girl should never be taught that she must pretend that a male is not male. An education resource should not be peddling ideologically driven material. Education should not collude with any sort of narrative based on an idea that one can be born in the wrong body. Education should challenge gender stereotypes. It should not propagate an ideological idea such as gender identity, which is based on stereotypes and for which there is no empirical evidence. Please see: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/

Bessica1970 · 22/10/2020 11:28

Why is it a safeguarding issue to accept people for who they are?

Would you use the same argument if a very religious person was saying it was a safeguarding issue to be asked to accept a gay person’s right to be gay?

NecessaryScene1 · 22/10/2020 11:29

What’s the problem with letting people know how to be inclusive?

Can you define "inclusive" in that question?

surely if you can make someone comfortable/happy by using their preferred pronoun you would?

Surely if you can make someone comfortable/happy by refraining from asking them their pronouns, or requiring them to remember other people's, you would? Why are you trying to make spaces less welcoming for people who don't believe in gender?

OhHolyJesus · 22/10/2020 11:29

Our publicly funded broadcaster is not stopping with gender/trans ideology. They are completely captured and it's really disturbing how they are blocking comments. We (license fee holders) are paying for this gaslighting!

I will be complaining, I've been considering my license but they have you by the ovaries as they have such a breath of programming, you can't just opt out of paying for one part of it. For a long time I've thought they need to change their business model.

We should all check our school materials and encourage others to do the same. Twinkl were ok for a bit but they are also captured. I don't know, homeschooling it looking quite good for me right now...

Is anyone else also a bit disturbed by the illustration?

Why is it a safeguarding issue to accept people for who they are?

You know exactly why accepting people are a different sex the one they claim to be is a safeguarding issue.

There's a word for forcing children to override their natural boundaries framed as being "inclusive"

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/10/2020 11:33

Sorry should say , having to accept they are the sex they claim to be.

You get the gist

Its gaslighting. And dangerous.

Bessica1970 · 22/10/2020 11:36

Ok I get it!
I’m not going to engage with this thread any longer.
You can’t persuade people to change their mind with logic if they have an agenda!
You’re lumping non-binary in with your anti-trans agenda and and I’m not going there!
As a woman with a daughter - I have never felt threatened by someone uncomfortable with their gender.

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/10/2020 11:39

The truth is anti trans now?

Hmm

Sorry if eyes offend...theres not alot we can do about that
