Facemasks on for a trip to the Bluestocking

We haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

Remember, MN spans the globe, and it's always before the 10pm curfew somewhere.

🍸Cheers

TyroTerf · 19/12/2020 16:01

Port, eh? Haven't had a cheeky vimto for time.

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 16:11

Cheeky Vimto... I love that tune

ArabellaScott · 19/12/2020 16:20

I had to google. That is ... that is monstrous.

TyroTerf · 19/12/2020 16:22

The drink or the tune? Cos I'd never heard of the tune but it's not bad actually.

persistentwoman · 19/12/2020 16:31

Cheers everyone. Have poured a Wine in order to listen to the press conference. What a time...

ArabellaScott · 19/12/2020 16:33

The drink. Anything that colour can't be right. I haven't heard the tune, either!

TyroTerf · 19/12/2020 16:48

I'm assuming you mean the wkd, cos cheeky vimto is just, well, red.

Blue wkd is indeed a monstrous abomination. But it goes a treat with port!

ArabellaScott · 19/12/2020 17:04

Okay, well, I'm not proud, I will see if I can snaffle one off the next passing drunken teenager and use some of the second-best port to do a test run. Smile

Winesalot · 19/12/2020 18:00

Cheers 🍷🥂!!

Pronouns should only be used if they make communication clearer and more fluent. Best avoided otherwise.

ArabellaScott · 21/12/2020 08:07

Think if it as a new parlour game - pronoun avoidance- fun for all the family!

I had to play the pronoun game in reverse when I was at school - DF was a teacher and I had him in the second year (yr8) and sixth form. So I could only use 'he' as I couldn't refer to him as 'Mr Dragon', 'Dad' or even 'the teacher' without sounding weird. Honestly, avoiding pronouns is much easier.

MuthaFunka61 · 21/12/2020 10:48

Heya all.

I don't generally indulge for health reasons but feck me, an AIBU thread has driven me here.

I'll have a very large Sailor Jerry please.

Cheers!

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2020 11:12

I had to look that up. Spiced rum sounds very xmassy.

DH is experimenting with creating a no-added alternative to mincemeat. His first experiment was to assess the brandy uptake of dried vine fruits. This left a delicious excess of raisin-infused brandy. His next iteration will hopefully add lemon zest and some spice. I'm not sure what the pies will be like but I've high hopes of ther by-product.Grin

PermaShouty · 21/12/2020 23:28

Hello internet pub. Quadruple vodka please - I've just had to do some patriarchy slaying while trying to get support with a temporary PTSD episode. I'm grounded again now, but seriously - never again am I engaging with men who think pointing out NAMALT is therapeutic for trauma survivors. The woman who volunteered to 'support' me the other day made first contact mid crisid abd then basically trolled me when I told her I had relevant other people/services to contact and that she didn't understand no or boundaries. Fuckers.

PermaShouty · 21/12/2020 23:32

That's better. Sorry if I'm a bit dishevelled, wild eyed and pissed off. I spoke to a spot on trauma informed women led survivor led service half an hour later for aaaages and she joined me in my pissed offness, gave sisterly solidarity, and helped me write a crisis/coping plan for all the symptoms that are sending me a bit wrong headed at the moment.

I come with an automatic easily triggered warning.
Yay for cast iron sensible women saving the day and my fragile head.

MuthaFunka61 · 21/12/2020 23:55

If there's any of that delicious sounding concoction spare send it my way @ErrolTheDragon. I'll not be shifting from this chair for a while.

Pull a chair up @PermaShouty,we can listen to each other spout off about why NAMALT gives us the rage and the ick.

Oops, looks like I need a refill of this delicious winter warmer. Who's tending the bar, or is it honesty box time?

Beamur · 22/12/2020 20:15

Evening! Anyone for a festive snifter?

SophocIestheFox · 22/12/2020 20:18

Bar time!

A close friend of many years announced her pronouns today (she/hers, which I knew as I’ve known her since the 1990s). I don’t want to make anything of it, but i am feeling as if there’s a bit of a double standard, and it’s fine for her to do that, but if I said I wouldn’t ever do it due to stereotype threat, then I’d be the bad guy? Do you know what I mean?

Can I have a Mince pie and brandy butter please, barkeep?. In real life I hate them, but in the Bluestocking they’re delicious and I like them as much as every other bugger seems to Grin

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2020 21:43

Does that mean cocaine, Beamur? If so, okay, but just a short one.

Sophocles, yes, I do. I'd do nothing more than nod and move on, to be honest. Hopefully it's just a phase. Smile

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 22/12/2020 21:45

At the Bluestocking the mince pies are light as a feather, deliciously buttery, and melt in your mouth, unlike the real world where they mostly taste like cardboard filled with spicy tarmac.

I don't suppose you could fashion me a festive negroni with a sparkler could you? What with it being Xmas n'all.

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 22/12/2020 21:46

if I said I wouldn’t ever do it due to stereotype threat, then I’d be the bad guy?

It's an awful bind isn't it. Having to grin and bear.
