Facemasks on for a trip to the Bluestocking

We haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

Remember, MN spans the globe, and it's always before the 10pm curfew somewhere.

Dh is downstairs making prawns with chilli and garlic for supper. I am on the sofa watching a film about Rock Against Racism called White Riot.

CaraDuneRedux · 14/11/2020 20:27

Chilli out the freezer for me! But with home-made guacamole (chilli was also home made, just a huge batch). Yum.

Now for a stiff drink (I am allowed imaginary drinks - my liver is playing up due to residual gallstones kicking around the bile duct, so can't drink in RL.) Hmm, a pretend Nero D'avola, I think. Makes me think of hols in happier, pre-covid times. I shall pair it up with an imaginary cheese board.

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 21:06

I think I will find it much easier to visualise this imaginary cheese board if I have some non-imaginary cheese on toast. Gouda, cheddar, or goat? The eternal question.

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 21:10

All three?

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 21:17

The woman who has it all: cheese edition. I could go with that. Although this course of action is destined to end in a low-key rant about electric grills.

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 21:23

I will be replacing the oven/grill soon ( fingers crossed ) , do you have words of wisdom there ?

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 21:57

Of wisdom, no. Of nostalgia, yes. O! how I miss the eye level gas jets (lit with a piece of spaghetti from the fireplace) of my youth!

I'm told they were banned on health and safety grounds, but a knee high gas one would be almost as good. An electric grill can manage the melty part but it's absolutely arse at the toasting part.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/11/2020 22:12

I'm short, high level gas grills used to scare the bejeezus out of me!

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 22:24

I was short then, it was handy being able to watch the toasting without having to bend down. The eye height was a key feature, for me.

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 23:06

No idea whereof you speak re: eye level gas (grew up in Canada), but my Granny had a wood burning stove which was put to use feeding, at times, a dozen farm workers. It didn't go out of use until I was almost in my teens. They also had a wooden phone (no, really!) with a handle on one side that you whirled around until it rang. Farming country, very rural, so all phones were party lines. Everybody knew EVERYONE'S business. Every God damned thing.

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 23:10

Where did that memory come from? Did I say I've moved on from the Malbec Tyro? It was lovely but on a small touch of whisky now and remembering taking wrapped lunches to the fields when they were harvesting. And honestly, I'm not even that old. Well, I am old, tbf. But not doddering. Still working.

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 23:21

I think it was a large. Drop of whiskey in my case. Need to de stress

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 23:40

You ok midge? I've just had the most tremendous giggle over woker than woke nothings refusing a spot on Graham Norton's show because JKR was interviewed earlier... And whisky. Whisky helps.

HecatesCats · 14/11/2020 23:44

I suspect all may be quiet on the Bluestocking front, but if there's any chance of a night cap, I'll have a wee dram. Just made DD1 & DP watch West Side Story and ooof am I in need of a pick me up.

HecatesCats · 14/11/2020 23:46

Hope you're ok midge

littlbrowndog · 14/11/2020 23:48

Yeah was funny that on Graham’s show.

You got JK on. We can’t be on. Just in case. Jeez get a grip adults.

Box of wine. Bad idea. Toasted chees. Great idea.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 15/11/2020 00:35

I’m not much of a cook, so the only recommendation I can make that is even vaguely related to grilling is not to light cigarettes with an electric toaster unless you ok with imminently acquiring a very short fringe.

NoCureForLove · 15/11/2020 00:41

I did once singe off all my eyebrows lighting a gas oven with a match when drunk...

midgebabe · 15/11/2020 08:31

Curled up with strike & the whiskey in the corner last night & no hangover. It's quality stuff they serve In here.

highame · 15/11/2020 12:08

aah yes Betty, I remember the curly frizzled ends if hair and the smell. Think you'd only do it once but no, after a few drinks, all memory fades. Glad I gave up smoking 😂😂

Just in the mood for a pre-lunch Tio Pepe, in a pint glass please OP

TyroTerf · 15/11/2020 12:11

The grill did get my eyebrows on a number of occasions. A fair price to pay for a decent slice of toast, I felt.

We're only just after noon so it's a bucket of PG Tips for me.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/11/2020 12:16

Yorkshire tea for me (normal, not gold - DH and I did a blind tasting once and decided we preferred it).
And I think a smoked cheese and prosciutto toasted pitta - cooked in a panini press.Grin

NoCureForLove · 15/11/2020 12:20

Is there a Sunday roast? Chicken with 'all the trimmings' please!
And I'll join you in a pint of sherry Highame. Manzanilla for me. Chilled.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 15/11/2020 17:06

I’ve recently taken to drinking a modified version of a ‘Bloody Mabel’.

Like a Bloody Mary but made with whiskey and sherry instead of vodka. I just use sherry because two types of alcohol in one glass is hard to justify when you are drinking at home!

Just got my first deletion on FWR. Don't know if it's a badge of honour or something shameful. 🤷 Can I have a large Mount Gay XO to celebrate / commiserate, please?
