Facemasks on for a trip to the Bluestocking

We haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

Remember, MN spans the globe, and it's always before the 10pm curfew somewhere.

Oh tyro, I just downloaded the latest strike yesterday, it's so warm and yummy !

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 15:04

Tyro, promise I am not stalking , I think we just ended up running the same direction

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 15:16

I'm cool with being stalked to talk about books so all good Grin

Still on the fourth one at the moment, hoping to hold out for paperback for the fifth, otherwise it's really obvious looking at the bookcase what date I started a series (a few weeks ago in this case).

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 15:34

I'm am e-reader myself. Couldn't afford a big enough house to have a library, read quite a bit and very bad at discarding books ( I lent my copy of the crow road to someone once and never got it back.traumatised to this day )

Plus you can blow up the text when my eyes get tired ( I am falling to bits really )

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 15:41

Never got on with ebooks. I think possibly because I was heavily into fanfiction before they were around. My brain's been programmed by this to view hard copy fiction differently to screens. And to automatically notice the errors on screens where I'll overlook them in print.

Besides, you can't use an ereader for extra wall insulation.

Plus I'm blind as the proverbial, but I can navigate by colour splodges with my glasses off. I'd be crashing into everything without the bookcases.

Not enough room for them all though. I have vague plans to annexe next door...

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 15:46

I still have the rammed bookcases....

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 15:58

For that I am thankful, midge. My bookcases are like a second skin, developed over a lifetime. The idea that some people get rid of them when they switch to ereaders makes me Shock

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 16:19

But then you would lose the books? I doubt the house foundations would stand the weight of my ebooks if they were physical, I found that I read much more because it was so easy to get more without the evidence showing !

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 16:31

Is there a bibliophile's version of crossing oneself? Because I feel the need for one when words like "lose the books" are being thrown around willy-nilly.

Actually, tangentially related to other threads: can my true inner authentic self be "librarian"? Because I always wanted to be the old-fashioned slightly scary cardigan-wearing sort when I grew up, but then I grew up and librarianing has changed dramatically.

midgebabe · 14/11/2020 16:39

I wanted to be an author

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 16:52

Author-stereotype, hmm. In my head that means you get to pontificate while wearing a silly hat and/or smoking a pipe, or else be a billionaire philanthropist beloved of milions.

I've changed my mind. I want to identify as a genderfluid author. I would make an awesome pontificating billionaire.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/11/2020 17:03

If you've not come across the concept of L-space and the Discworld's Librarian .... you're clearly a few books short.Grin

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 17:13

Oook!

Big, ginger, fond of bananas, hangs out in an old dressing gown, a single specific trigger causes an excessive explosion of aggression, lives in a book cave and is endlessly frustrated by idiotic blokes.

I've been identifying with the Librarian for twenty years. I even have a pet weedy bloke to do the shitwork!

But us it a ladylike drink? Hmm

NoCureForLove · 14/11/2020 18:51

littlbrowndog · 14/11/2020 18:55

Large glass of anything please.

Can read in dark when snorer is sleeping.

Can I get snacks pls. Crisps would be awesome. But not smoky bacon

TheChampagneGalop · 14/11/2020 19:04

Popping in to ask a question.
There is a very disturbing and enlightening article about "the boy who disappeared" on Glinner's site. Are we allowed to post that or not? I feel like I have no idea what can be posted or not after being deleted when I wrote about other people calling JKR a t*rf.

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 19:30

Would be discussing a particular person...should be possible, in the real world, else madness ensues. This is like the Savile horror all over again, no-one spoke up and because of that it was allowed to happen for years...so I say go for it

Blindingly0bvious · 14/11/2020 19:33

Grim out there tonight, is it?

So very very grim.

DH has tried to recreate Bath Olivers, though, and just tasted one with blue cheese. Excellent, especially with Malbec. ta.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/11/2020 19:39

Sounds good.
My DH has just cooked teriyaki-marinaded fillet steak which was incredibly good.

MaudTheInvincible · 14/11/2020 19:47
