Facemasks on for a trip to the Bluestocking

CaraDuneRedux · 20/10/2020 20:33

We haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

Remember, MN spans the globe, and it's always before the 10pm curfew somewhere.

A small Baileys and some twiglets for me, please. The kids haven't been put to bed yet.

CaraDuneRedux · 13/11/2020 20:25

Schapps, Lebkuchen and any other tipple/foodstuff that takes your fancy.

Tonight I think I will have a nice laphroaig. Possibly with an oatcake or two with a good, sharp cheese.

Large slab of Stöllen and a hot chocolate over here please.

I have toiled in the trenches today. Not literally- I bloody wish, I could do with the fresh air and exercise.

Winesalot · 13/11/2020 20:55

Join you in a dram of Laphroaig.

NoCureForLove · 13/11/2020 22:43

This looks like a nice bar. Is it still open?
Mine's a large Malbec please. In a thin tumbler not a poncy wine glass on a tall stem. And some olives.

What's the view of Maggi Hambling s Wollstonecraft statue then. Not a fan despite being a fan of Hambling and her general attitude...

Fuck / That / Shit

ErrolTheDragon · 13/11/2020 22:57

Of course it's still open - being an MN pub it operates in all time zones. The sun is always over the yardarm somewhere.
Probably aired my views on the barbieblob enough on the thread.

But I've got a happier thought - the Bluestocking has a lot of empty wall space, odd corners, I'm sure we've got a few courtyards... so, shall we treat ourselves to some reproductions of good artwork? Feminist themes, good women artists, representations of great women....I already made my pick - Hambling's Dorothy Hodgkin.

TyroTerf · 13/11/2020 23:06

Cuppa and a fag for me; my rage demon is alcohol-activated.

Fortunately for Sophocles my inadequate social not-actually-flirting skills are also highly dependent on the demon drink, so you're spared the sight of me trying to find words that encapsulate just how attractive your ability to phrase things has been tonight. Some cracking sentences in there, gave me shivers with their perfect encapsulation of points. Trust me, you do not need the slurred and repetitive version of this speech.

If anyone needs me I will be lurking in smokers' corner wishing my brain would shut up for a bit.

Winesalot · 13/11/2020 23:21

It is nice in here away from the mehrailing.

Silver tits? I am yet to talk to a woman who thinks it was a good choice for Mary Wollstonecraft.

NoCureForLove · 13/11/2020 23:36

I know! Silver tits indeed. Is that a bit like tinsel tits? What a missed opportunity. What were you thinking Maggi?!

It's just up the road from me in rl. The shame!

Make mine a double (Malbec). Is it nearly time for a lock in and shots?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/11/2020 23:50

I don't think we do lock-ins ...because of the lack of time zones, people can rock up at any hour. And of course it's never 'last orders' let alone closing time.

I'd love to join you in the Malbec. Well, not in it, I don't want a vat.Grin

I quite want the slurred version of that speech Grin

And thanks for the boost. I’ve had a crap week and that means a lot Flowers

SophocIestheFox · 14/11/2020 08:30

The Bluestocking also does breakfasts- proper, old style hotel buffet breakfasts with fancy muesli, fried everything and also cheese options and breakfast cake for continental types. Tuck in and fortify yourselves, wims!

NoCureForLove · 14/11/2020 09:32

Well in rl it's greek yoghurt and a few blueberries. In my fantasy life I'll have two egg and bacon rolls please. Red sauce. And a bottomless mug of strong tea. Pleaseandthankyouverymuch.

FannyCann · 14/11/2020 09:37

Blindingly0bvious
Were the public aware that Bath Olivers have ceased production 
Aware, and wrote to our MP!! He replied, agreeing wholeheartedly that this Must. Not. Stand. Very funny that THIS is what he responds to. What a time to be alive. Actually he is a pillock but pleased to get a reaction showing he does, in fact, have some human understanding.

Brilliant. My MP is referred to by a friend as Minister for the Eighteenth Century. I'm sure he must be outraged by the loss of Bath Olivers. Not sure that he does wit though so an afternoon thinking up a suitably humourless letter of complaint will surely be wasted.

Anyway the weather is shit here, can I come in, shed the wellies and curl up by the fire with Troubled Blood some really good port and a cheeseboard. With Bath Olivers. And figs. Stilton the main show of course.

I am moving into your fantasy life!

Help yourself to the brews. (You may want to cross reference the tea discussion on the Bunbury thread. Grin)

TofuDelights · 14/11/2020 13:06

Am I allowed back? Feel like I killed the thread last time with boring drivel, sorry. Confused I haven't commented on the statue thread because I'm incandescent with rage about it, and everyone else seems much more coherent than I would be. Strong black coffee please, if that is OK.

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 13:12

Thread-killing's a skill. Not everyone has it. Be proud of your gift!

CaraDuneRedux · 14/11/2020 13:14

I prefer the more fancy sounding term "thread slayer"

OP posts:
TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 13:15

Yes, that's much better.

Although it gave me a momentary pang of nostalgia for BuffytheReasonableFeminist.

TofuDelights · 14/11/2020 13:29

Thread slayer, that sounds quite cool but I'm not sure that's a skill I want to have! I'm definitely going to wear my biggest chunkiest boots this afternoon in honour of the appellation though! Thanks all Brew

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 13:42

Fluffy socks for me, not sure they could slay anything except baseless assumptions about my fashion sense. They're blue and grey and sparkly.

DD's buggering off to her dad's this afternoon. Do I spend the time sitting on my hands trying not to rehash pointless lavatorial arguments, or should I crack on with Cormoran Strike?

NoCureForLove · 14/11/2020 13:54

Tricky one. On balance I think I'd go with the book. It is the weekend after all...

NoCureForLove · 14/11/2020 14:44

Always a mistake to venture out of a cosy pub on a cold, wet afternoon.
I'm back and I'll have a very large Ginger wine please. In fact please leave the bottle.

There are quite a few people apparently who think the 'lady' is polite and 'woman' is rude. WTF?

TyroTerf · 14/11/2020 14:57

Reminds me of the captioned drawing DD did aged five:

A male human is called a man. [stick figure with long hair]
A female human is called a lady or woman. [stick figure with curly hair]
A baby human is sometimes called a youngling. [stick figure of farting infant saying "parp!" ]

Obviously I stuck it on the fridge, where it remains to this day.
