Woman's Hour 20 October: Has Mumnset become too politicised?

I assume this is about the the audacity to criticise the gender identity ideology. I wonder if they'll have a proper discussion. Remember that Jenni Murray only felt free to talk only as she was walking out of the door.

Who is the presenter that day? Wonder if Justine has been invited on?

Escapeplanning · 19/10/2020 11:08

It's probably about the book on this subject that has been published recently.

persistentwoman · 19/10/2020 11:12

Very interesting. I wonder who will be advocating that women stay in our lane and focus on recipes, buggies and knitting.
Eyes the Bunbury thread thoughtfully..... Grin

Antibles · 19/10/2020 11:12

Yes it will be about trans is my guess.

As second wave feminism had it: "The personal is the political".

If you're going to fuck with women's and girls' rights and protections in society, we're going to discuss it. HTH Woman's Hour.

PS Wouldn't it be fun if Jenni Murray rang or texted in Grin

Barracker · 19/10/2020 11:13

Should women even do politics? I mean aren't their brains already too full of nappies and prosecco memes? Mumsnet frequently steps outside its core permitted speciality of buggies and baby feeding, perhaps it's time to put a stop to it once and for all.

Here to discuss are Godfrey Bloom, Some woman from the quiverfull movement (with her husband's permission and a typed out script) and a man who intends to come out as identifying as a woman before Christmas.

Our guest host will be a man too, because why not.

About that den of vipers then...

Angryresister · 19/10/2020 11:13

Why hasn’t this been framed as “ Has Mumsnet done a huge service to women by allowing us to speak about political matters and forbidden topics when we are being shut down elsewhere?”

Datun · 19/10/2020 11:14

'Too politicised'?

I can't wait to find out what is sufficiently politicised. Or just the right amount of politicised. For feminists.

nauticant · 19/10/2020 11:14

Ahh, of course Escapeplanning, that'll be the reason. I'll be interested to hear who they get on and how the conversation goes.

highame · 19/10/2020 11:14

The titles implies women shouldn't be political? This is a total intrusion, very offended, even if it's arguments on both sides, the bloody audacity

nauticant · 19/10/2020 11:15

I'm disappointed that the OP doesn't even know the name of the website they're on.

OP posts:
Angryresister · 19/10/2020 11:16

Or of course the question could be” Has Mumsnet taken over the role of Women’s hour in speaking out about matters of huge concern to women?”

TBHno · 19/10/2020 11:16

How insulting.

What about Dadsnet, is that too politicized too?

CaraDuneRedux · 19/10/2020 11:36

"Women, know your limits."

Escapeplanning · 19/10/2020 11:38

'This book dispels two myths about mumsnet: that it is heaving with entitled,
middle-class yummy mummies, or drowning in hate and bigotry. What Sarah
Pedersen illustrates is that mumsnet is today a key route into feminism for
both women stuck at home with toddlers, and those who understand that women do
have some shared experiences -and not just having children or not. This book
is informative, amusing and a call to feminist action.' - Julie Bindel

Sarah has been here chatting with us and is a big fan.

Winesalot · 19/10/2020 11:48

Maybe we should return the favour and discuss whether Women's Hour actually progresses women enough these days?

littlbrowndog · 19/10/2020 11:50

Yeah wine. Let’s discuss women’s hour. What does it do for women ?

And god forbid that women can talk about politics.

Jeez 🤦‍♀️

RhapsodyandAshe · 19/10/2020 11:51

I'd be up for that @Winesalot

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 19/10/2020 11:51

Oh no! Mums being policitical! Won't someone think of the children?!? Grin

Well I'm thinking about my daughter here, so yes, I am. As are many of us.

FindTheTruth · 19/10/2020 11:51

Too politicised? Too politicised for what?

Lumene · 19/10/2020 11:58

It's probably about the book on this subject that has been published recently.

Yes this exactly.

AbsintheFriends · 19/10/2020 11:59

I'm hoping the fact that this topic is being discussed on Woman's Hour tomorrow may mean some of the WH production team have a quick scan of the boards today. On the off chance, here's a quick message to them:

GET OFF THE FECKING FENCE AND START FULFILLING YOUR BRIEF TO COVER CURRENT AFFAIRS FROM AN UNASHAMED AND UNAPOLOGETIC FEMALE PERSPECTIVE YOU CRAVEN COWARDS.

Thanks!

MichelleofzeResistance · 19/10/2020 12:02

The horrors of mummies actually talking about politics

Yes, lets analyse Women's Hour. For a start, lets hear a whole lot of burble about their working definition of 'woman' and then let's hear them defend that as progressive and inclusive for adult human females . As in discussing it only and exclusively with adult human females, as opposed to lining up adult human males to head tilt at and enable to tell female people who they are, what they shall be called, what boxes they shall be stuffed in, what rights and protections in law are being confiscated from them by males for the benefit of males, and why the concept of safety, health care, biological reality and lived experience as a biological female is now a hate crime against males who just don't want to have to hear all that shit.

And who would like to prevent them being allowed to a) assemble, even online, b) talk to each other because then they start sharing ideas and having opinions and get completely out of their box, and c) organise in ways really fucking inconvenient to males. My God, the horror. They can assemble if they talk about prams and their MiLs. That's it. That's all.

And we'll hide that behind a pretty show of faux concern about 'gosh are the mummies getting a bit to politicised? Ugly look for a naice girl'.

The suffragettes and the lesbians have heard it all before. For decades. Your great grandfathers tried all this shit. It didn't work then either.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/10/2020 12:04

When was the last time that (white) men were accused of being 'too politicised'?

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2020 12:06

How ridiculous. If you take away our rights then we are going to discuss it.

Should we stick to nappies and school gate shite?

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2020 12:09

Who will argue the yes side to this?
