Both Sharron and Piers making Brian point now!

OP posts:

I think Blaire’s opinion shows how completely detached the people arguing this decision are. They don’t have a basis in reality.

FFS. Girls and women get equal coaching. What a joke! I only have to look how my daughter’s football team gets the less experienced coaches, most parents don’t even turn up to the games whereas the boys teams have huge turn up. And this is a club with a huge amount of girls teams.

So, whoever Blaire is, they need a reality check and to get out of their safe echo chamber.

Video | Should Transgender Athletes Be Allowed to Compete in the Olympics? | Good Morning Britain Mar 3, 2020

Watching this, I’m thinking that it took 84 years for women to get the right to run a marathon and it took Joanna Harper trans woman (appearing in this video) a couple of meetings with the International Olympic Committee to change women’s sports to mixed sex, based on her flawed research. No other groups were consulted by the IOC when they changed women’s sports to mixed sex.

What an excellent point.
Signalbox · 14/10/2020 10:57

Neither of those parties give a shit about women. They are anti trans NOT pro women. And it was the Tories who first tabled self ID

I don’t think this is true. Why would the tories have tabled self ID if they were anti-trans. And why would they then have taken on board the views of women and women’s groups if they don’t give a shit about women. As it stands labour and lib dems are still totally on board with self-id whilst dismissing the concerns of women as being transphobic. Plus I am not hearing anti-trans statements from tory mps. I think there is much more nuance to this. Lets face it if labour had won the last GE we’d have self-id by now and probably a load of hate crime legislation around what language we should be using to boot.

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 11:41

@Enormouscroc

Rachel Reeves was on straight after the debate to talk about lockdown. Piers asked RR her views and she tried to dodge the question but pedalled TWAW type statements without answering the question.
Was she on R4 about 7:30? I did hear some labour bod whining that they weren’t only there to knock the gvt (haha, not) and that they knew better (such as?) and not really saying very much of use at all (same old same old).
Siameasy · 14/10/2020 11:43

Brilliant Sharron
Her daughters a heptathlete, I didn’t know this.
I’m into sports and my daughter is sporty - I’m so grateful for Sharron and others that they are fighting for us

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 11:46

‘powerful, and generally beat women in almost every sport event, ever, is because they are taught better.‘ now that is utter nonsense.

I was pretty good at javelin at school. It was mostly the ‘boys’ activity, and one of the boys PE teachers saw me practicing on my own and taught me.

I could beat the girls (hey, I could do that anyway) but me - short and skinny back then - could not get close to the boys’ throwing - maybe better that the rubbish to mediocre ones, but definitely not close to the top of the class onesies as for the discus - I had tiny hands and it kept flying backwards...

I'm afraid I agree.

I won't and can't vote for Labour while they are aggressively misogynist. It shocks me, the open vitriol aimed at women who don't comply.

It's also worth noting that the Tories have produced our only two women Prime Ministers.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/10/2020 11:54

It's incredible to me that anybody can utter this nonsense about women just needing better coaching and to train harder with a straight face. Have they never tried armwrestling with a member of the opposite sex? Have they not noticed the differences in World Records between the sexes? Have they not wondered how it is that top amateur athletes from all over the world run the same marathon course, starting at the same time, and the first finisher is never, ever a woman?

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 11:56

I’m sure if they watched Serena Williams play a man in the top 90-100 they couldn’t even begin to say that.

PegasusReturns · 14/10/2020 11:59

Sharron is amazing!

Agree with whoever said that MPs should rep their constituents. So they have such a clear get out: the first MP who says I’ve spoken with my constituents; I’ve listened to their feedback and they are overwhelmingly against self ID.

RoyalCorgi · 14/10/2020 12:05

Do you think Rachel Reeve and other members of the shadow cabinet have been instructed not to speak about this issue? Starmer has been completely silent on it since he became leader.

Have they not noticed that global patriarchy wouldn't exist if women could overpower men on an equal basis?

There you go.

Instant solution. "What can I say? I'm representing the people. My opinion is irrelevant, this is what they have said. And here are the reasons why."

FWRLurker · 14/10/2020 12:53

Have they not noticed that global patriarchy wouldn't exist if women could overpower men on an equal basis?

The current thinking of progressive —authoritarian— left is that The colonial West arbitrarily assigned “the social construct of “
female sex” to half of humans and then oppressed them. That oppression resulted in that half of humans being weaker than the half who were “socially constructed as male”. The idea that men’s and women’s bodies would be different In a state of nature is entirely based on Colonialist Constructions of Gender. And that’s why indigenous societies are so gender egalitarian and never had gender roles or knew which people were male or female.

Or something.

Look none of this makes any sense but this is where we are now apparently.

PurpleHoodie · 14/10/2020 13:10

Labour more and more are refusing to listen to the people.

Trampling on girls and womens Rights will lose them votes.

Keith Starmer; by choosing to stay silent on this issue means people will make up their minds as to what he thinks. He doesn't give a shit is my take. We don't exist. So therefore, we can't give him our votes and support. He can stuff his own envelopes.
As for the Labour female MPs, by being Wokemaidens, they are against LGB Rights, they are against BAME Rights, they are against Disability Rights and they are against Religious Rights.

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 13:21

It’s all about playing the numbers. What will get them the vote of the young? Get them young and keep them for life? Don’t they realise that the idealistic and persuadable ‘young’ grow the hell up once they leave education and have to enter the real world of jobs, taxes, school runs and mortgages?

It’s all just a numbers game. Try to win the popular votes. But see how well that played in Liverpool’s when the Sun tried to pull that stunt? People don’t forget and don’t forgive.

wellbehavedwomen · 14/10/2020 13:27

@FairFriday

Of course they'd still say that. They say crazier things with a straight face all the time.
FairFriday · 14/10/2020 13:36

Even Serena has said she couldn’t win against a much lower ranked man. She has access to the best coaches in the world but it can’t change boring old facts.

PearPickingPorky · 14/10/2020 13:48

Does anyone have a link to this?

IwishNothingButTheBestForYou2 · 14/10/2020 13:55

.. It's also worth noting that the Tories have produced our only two women Prime Ministers.

And the Labour Party have never even had a woman leader, never mind a PM.

The election that Shakira Knightley Starmer won (to become leader) had four women and I can remember some posters here saying obvs the man would win because it's the LP and they hate women. At the time I was already jaded enough to agree with them.

What they are currently doing to Rosie Duffield is fucking disgusting and insupportable.

I have been a lifelong Labour supporter. No longer.

BovaryX · 14/10/2020 14:16

@Coffeecak3

What sort of person wants to compete knowing they are effectively cheating? Doesn’t say much about the person really.
The kind of person who believes they have an inalienable right to take a battering ram to sex segregated spaces and stomp on women who don't like it. Literally and metaphorically.
BovaryX · 14/10/2020 14:19

The kind of quivering politico who is incapable of answering simple questions because of their terror of woke vigilantes is the kind of politico who should be permanently denied any political or legislative power.

Siameasy · 14/10/2020 14:33

Don’t be an MP if you can’t talk about difficult subjects.

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 14:57

Don’t be an MP if you have no principles (and self preservation is not a principle)

viques · 14/10/2020 15:07

Sharron Davies is my new role model. She has been saying this for a while now making calm, reasoned arguments that protect women’s sports integrity and that cut straight through all the woke “feelings and rights” crap.

Many other former world class sports women are also saying the same things, they are brave for fielding all the guff that is thrown at them but who can argue with them, they have been there, done the work, won the medals and are now putting their heads above the parapet to protect younger women and give them the chance to achieve and succeed.
