STONEWALL ARE HOSTING AN ANTI-MISOGYNY WORKSHOP I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING

Alongside that other paragon of feminism Stella Creasy, and Susannah Fish who Google informs me is a retired Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police and has an OBE.

I don’t honestly know which I’m feeling more...

a) the urge to laugh until it hurts at the sheer ridiculousness of Stonewall having anything to do with any kind of anti-misogyny campaign;

b) absolute fucking steaming rage at their audacity after everything they’ve done to trample all over women;

c) astonishment that they haven’t got a TW involved somehow.

They’ve limited replies but the retweets with comment are quite heartening...

Not if they help write the definition.

Kit19 · 08/10/2020 08:44

why the fuck are Stonewall hosting this instead of an actual woman's charity? I mean geuinely this is the equivalent of Age UK hosting a seminar on youth services! Their mission is LGBTQ etc and while of course lesbians are impacted by misogyny (especially from stonewall itself) shouldnt work on women's issues be done by an organisation whose sole focus is women?

as for stella Creasy her endless handmaidening and inability to define what a woman is, means she too can get in the bin

Sue Fish has been on this for a while - its painful that she has to share a panel with them

@fakenina

ah, fantastic! I'll pencil that in for just after the EDLs anti racism weekend. Blinding.
This is a perfect, perfect response.
highame · 08/10/2020 08:48

It's about getting transwomen included in any legislation - that's my guess

ArcheryAnnie · 08/10/2020 08:51

@DoctorTwo

I won't share what I think Stonewall has become, because it might get deleted and I might get hit w ith the banhammer. I do think they've abandoned their core principles in the years since equal marriage, which is a shame. I support gay rights, always have done as I believe the gay friends I have, and have had, deserve equal treatment to me and other straight people, but now they don't seem to support that. For shame.
i will share - I'm an ex-Stonewall volunteer from the early days. They've become an openly homophobic, misogynist shitshow, which if I time-travelled and told my younger self this while I she was sitting on committees, hauling boxes at Pride, and standing behind information tables, she (me) would find it difficult to believe. But there it is.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2020 08:57

To have a law including misogyny as a hate crime, misogyny would have to be defined. The Equality Act definition of a woman is "a female of any age". If the definition of a woman within law for hate crime includes self identified MTF trans people, that weakens the legal position still further that a woman is an adult human female.

SunsetBeetch · 08/10/2020 08:57

@NecessaryScene1

If they make misogyny a hate crime I'm almost certain the first person arrested will be a woman.

That's the way these things work.

Britain's first "transgender hate crime prosecution" was brought against a trans person by a non-trans person. On behalf of the TRA lobby.

www.spectator.co.uk/article/a-collapsed-case-shows-the-perils-of-policing-transphobia-

Of course this would end up being used the same ironic way.

Although I'm not sure it would make a lot of practical difference. They would already have you for "transphobia", so not sure that having you down for "transphobia + misogyny" particularly changes the basic fact they're trying to drag you through court for "hate".

"Transmisogyny" is a word that often gets bandied about by TRAs. And many of them say that transwomen suffer misogyny more than women.

Yes.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2020 08:58

Yes, it's odd. Are they trying to gradually reposition themselves as the champions of every protected characteristic (and a few more besides)? The campaigning body for everyone except (apologies) 'CisHet white men' ... and them too if they have a kink or feel like they fit some other category. Confused

SunsetBeetch · 08/10/2020 09:35

Or this is so they can say "How can you say we're misogynistic? Look, we're fighting against misogyny"

Or, all of the above.

wellbehavedwomen · 08/10/2020 09:46

Yes, this makes sense. Trojan horsing, by forcing a new legal definition that erases us, while piously claiming to be for us. Then they can claim the new legal definition of 'woman' is self-defined.

Actively campaigning to allow males in women's rugby, despite clear evidence that this would lead to not just grotesque unfairness, but risk of life altering injuries and deaths, and calling lesbians who protest that no, actually, dick is not part of their definition transphobes... and then pretending to GAF about women, or indeed gay people.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/10/2020 09:52

Please respond to the Law Commission Consultation to make it clear you want the hate crime based on sex not gender. This is one of the things they are asking.

RadandMad · 08/10/2020 09:58

It's a PR exercise designed to head off (rightful) accusations that they're a bunch of misogynists.

findyourbacon · 08/10/2020 10:11

This is really disappointing. I have been following and supporting Stella Creasy's campaign for a little while, and it seemed to be really sensible - she talked about misogyny being a sex based issue etc, but then she deleted several tweets in response to this campaign as being transphobic and 'not in the spirit' of this campaign. And now this with Stonewall - I'm well and truly out!!

ThinEndOfTheWedge · 08/10/2020 10:23

Yep - you were obviously a fly on the wall at Stonewall’s misstrategy meeting.

Shout loud to all. Stonewall is now the epitome of homophobia and misogyny.

They define women - smile really isn’t it?
FairFriday · 08/10/2020 10:32

Simple not smile... although they were probably smiling when they thought this one up...

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/10/2020 11:10

Bunch of disingenuous pigs. I clicked on the link and started completing the consultation. I realise it is very important to complete this. Intersex being conflated with transgender. Gender replacing sex etc.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/10/2020 11:17

They couldn’t pick the woman out of line up of vaginas.

jdoejnr1 · 08/10/2020 11:19

There is no such thing as a 'hate crime' in law it is purely a statistical process. An assault will still be charged as an assault not a hate crime assault. So not quite as ground breaking as they're claiming.

NRatched · 08/10/2020 12:38

@fakenina

ah, fantastic! I'll pencil that in for just after the EDLs anti racism weekend. Blinding.
Yeah, got to admit that was around my first thought too

I mean, if they have suddenly had an epiphany and now wish to change their behaviour, stop their own misogyny and try to get it out of others, and start to give a shit about women, great. I don't think so though, and it does feel like they are just trolling feminists now

MichelleofzeResistance · 08/10/2020 13:46

It's not odd at all, it's doing the usual get ahead of the law, own it, define it, wholly appropriate everything for …. well no clues needed.

But basically it will be about ensuring female people are vanished.

Thelnebriati · 08/10/2020 13:50

I'm really concerned about their sudden interest in misogyny. I did wonder if I was being paranoid but it looks like other people have reached the same conclusion.

MichelleofzeResistance · 08/10/2020 13:51

And from their point of view if they don't own it and control it then a piece of legislation might come into existence that yes, protects female people but much worse than that identifies that there is such a thing as biological females, that sex is recognised as existing separately to gender, and therefore....

MaudTheInvincible · 08/10/2020 13:53

What do they think the gyn is for in misogyny then?
