Signing off with a final sentence - 'there are many, many stereotypes associated with our gender. But our SEX we share.'

Hopefully she will go on to speak more about this once she has exited woke central.

I rarely listen to WH live but I did today and am feeling very emotional. What an incredible woman she is Flowers.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 10:48

I'd just posted the same on another thread!

I don't think we've heard the last of her on this issue.

iguanadonna · 01/10/2020 10:48

Was that her final sentence? Oh my! Thank you Jenni! You've been the voice of everyday feminism for me since I was at primary school.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 10:49

It's wasn't her very last sentence, it was part of the wrap up at the end of the programme.

Toomie · 01/10/2020 10:51

Beat me to it! Just started a thread saying exactly the same thing.
Masterful ending there Jenni

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 10:51

Yes, it did feel like a very emphatic way to sign off. Not so much a goodbye as the start of another conversation.

I bet she can't wait. She's unbuckling the scold's bridle as we speak!

There are now 4 threads on this, all started round about the same time!

Wow fantastic . I loved womans hour

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 10:57

I thought it was slightly odd that Jane Garvey didn't make any contribution.

Just finished listening and shed a tear, was very emotional.

Thank you Dame Jenni- we bloody love you! Flowers

I really, really hope so. It's a travesty that she hasn't been able to tackle the topic of women's erasure on the bloody WOMAN's hour.

Who was it in the first part that kept going on about "gender violence"? I swear JM was sucking her teeth at that.

I got the impression they very much do not get on.
lanadelgrey · 01/10/2020 11:04

That is a phrase to be embroidered into a banner.

Toomie · 01/10/2020 11:04

The continuity announcer introducing the next programme just did a direct quote from Jennys sign off but replaced the word sex with gender. Unfuckingbelievable.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 11:04

Did anyone just hear the headlines on Radio 4? They're reporting Jenni Murray's statement about many types of women but are specifically neglecting to include what she said about "our sex". This really couldn't be more transparent if they tried.

SquishySquirmy · 01/10/2020 11:05

Loving the multiple threads on this all started at the same time! I got a teensy bit tearful listening to her and I am not normally the tearful sort.

A truth stated calmly and quietly is so powerful.

LittlePearl · 01/10/2020 11:05

I'm not as convinced as others here that JG is on the same page on this issue. I'd love to be proved wrong. I suppose she might just be brilliant at keeping her cards close to her chest but I have sometimes thought she seems quite hostile to women arguing the GC perspective.

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2020 11:05

I would love to hear an interview with Jenni and JK.

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 11:06

Was the 'gender violence' woman Helena Kennedy? I was doing stuff when that bit was on so didn't catch some of it. I think HK - disappointingly - has made some TWAW statements hasn't she?

I thought the structure of the programme was interesting. A tour through JM's history on the programme, interviewing hugely important female figures like Maya Angelou, Margaret Thatcher and Hillary Clinton, emphasising her reputation as an extremely significant, massively respected media voice. I liked that she was able to do that with her last WH before going on to use that voice on other platforms.

So the BBC are misquoting Jenni? Unfucking believable- I feel a complaint coming on!

nauticant · 01/10/2020 11:07

Maybe JM could do a guest slot on Times Radio specifically for that?

Toomie · 01/10/2020 11:07

It was worse than that Nauticant
If I heard correctly, it was spoken as a direct quote but misquoted her as saying gender rather than sex.
Not much they can do to muzzle her though. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her...

Yes, the PR emergency woke-rescue team must have been on standby. They got to work very quickly to defuse that dirty feminist bomb and turn it into a pleasant 'inclusive' statement. Nothing to see here.
