Good to see them refer to Mermaids as controversial

Aposterhasnoname · 27/09/2020 22:03

And they are not happy about it. Grin

From Mermaids:
“We will take this moment to restate our determination to hold ground in a space open to reasonable conversation. “

Massive lol.

Kantastic · 27/09/2020 22:58

Mermaids: We are working hard to make room for a sensible, kind, reasonable conversation and it is becoming increasingly clear that we will not be met with such generosity of spirit from those determined to keep newspapers and their personal ideologies afloat on the already exhausted backs of transgender and gender-diverse people

Just here to admire the hilariously inept writing. Love the imagery at the end of the Mail on Sunday floating merrily along on a raft made out of the Mermaids gender spectrum stick figures and some very pissed off TRAs all roped together.

ColleagueFromMars · 27/09/2020 23:03

Oh boy. As a leftie I'm gutted that not only can I not stand the guardian any more and find the Times to be sensible writing, but now I agree with the Daily Mail.

Maybe I'm transitioning Hmm Sad

Maybe that's what they mean when they say we get more conservative as we get older?

Sunday Morning Live, 17 minutes in on iPlayer t.co/n5OIdY8R8v?amp=1 (after the riding school and before the knitting)
Blogger Rose of Dawn being sensible, and two gender extremists making the audience peak. And Angela Epstein.

Quaagars · 27/09/2020 23:57

Not all of us, I seem to be getting more liberal as an old fart which confuses me

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2020 00:01

I've got more liberal in some ways and more conservative in others (small l and c)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/09/2020 00:17

Same here, errol

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2020 00:37

Some of it's that as you experience more of life, you better appreciate what is actually worth conserving.

Porridgeoat · 28/09/2020 00:53

I’m still where I was liberal leftie wise, sadly the extreme left seems to have gathered momentum around me and made me seem more middle of the road

spiderbride · 28/09/2020 01:00

a sensible, kind, reasonable conversation

If they're judging that in relation to the vast majority of conversations on the subject, I assume this just means "not calling anyone a c**t?"

I've only got more and more lefty as the years go by, but then again I have a long way to go. I don't think being a gender abolitionist necessarily = being a conservative by any means.

calllaaalllaaammma · 28/09/2020 07:31

The main problem for them is they have no answer to the exponential rise of teenage girls identifying as trans, and their training courses to schools (40 last year) just preach affirmation of this.

highame · 28/09/2020 07:37

I always put the shift in political ideals down to shades of grey.

Used to be hard left and am now centre left but on women's rights I am and always have been pro women, no if's, no but's and definitely no maybe's. This means I sometimes have very strange bedfellows but I join with all because of their sex

SerenityNowwwww · 28/09/2020 07:53

What are schools going to do now - all those children what they have been deciding to change their names and ‘gender’ (sometimes without the consent or knowledge of their families) and going merrily alone this route of affirmation? Some stories o have read have been heartbreaking - an old fashioned Tom boy being taken under the wing of a particular teacher and led along the garden path. My sister would have been that child...

MindTheMinotaur · 28/09/2020 07:55

Mum's on other boards on the site have discussed how friends and family are pressurising children to be regarded as trans because they are not conforming to stereotypes. I remember one thread in particular where a group of three girls who were pushing a teenage girl to come out as a trans boy. There was a strong sense that this was driven by them wanting status given that 'trans' was fashionable. Mermaids haven't been driving a kind conversation for these children.

SerenityNowwwww · 28/09/2020 07:58

There’s always social media pushing this whole thing too.

I wish I'd bought shares in irony meters about three years ago.

Makes a fucking change from JKR constantly being described as controversial.

bellinisurge · 28/09/2020 09:01

Not sure I'm getting more conservative as I get older. Being in favour of safeguarding to protect women and being aware of sex based protections has kind of been an always thing for me.

KatVonlabonk · 28/09/2020 09:07

Lol at Mermaids saying "Goldsmith's say we're okay"

Yeah Goldsmith's, the wokest of the woke, home of the smearing dual named trans activist Natacha Kennedy

lalalalaloo · 28/09/2020 09:20

I really worry with all of this volte face that they are going to try and turn around and accuse us of some of the things they are guilty of.

I've already seen GC's been accused of creating the word 'wombxn'

Natacha Kennedy has posted something along the lines of the new government guidelines mean Mermaids are fine but it is now banned to talk about ROGD in schools because there is no evidence for it.

SerenityNowwwww · 28/09/2020 09:37

Goldsmiths... now a byword for Wokey McWokeface nonsense. (Sorry any ex goldsmithians...)
