www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/civil-rights/human-rights/when-can-a-public-authority-interfere-with-your-human-rights/

This is interesting on examples of situations where rights are qualified, e.g. because they conflict with somebody else's rights.

If this issue is so important to between 200,000 and 500,000 people (I'm presuming that's some stonewall bs on numbers of trans people) how come only 7000 filling in the survey identified as trans.........

CharlieParley · 24/09/2020 15:32

@carefulvulvadriver

I guess he's referring to WHO removing the word disorder from 'ICD-11, gender incongruence'

@FindTheTruth I think the Brighton MP is referring there to how the GRC requires 2 docs to confirm gender dysphoria (that right?) but he's saying that contradictions the WHO's position that it's not a medical condition.

I wonder if he has a point there and we'll have to come back and have the argument over the GRC process all over again??

It's not been removed as a medical condition, it has been reclassified. From psychological to sexual disorder IIRC.

People who identify as trans and who live in the US would otherwise not have been able to get insurance cover for whatever medical transition they required.

MadamBatty · 24/09/2020 15:32

I hate where Ireland is constantly quoted as having no issues...there’s loads. where are the facts to back up their assertion?

FindTheTruth · 24/09/2020 15:39

Wow! Thanks @CharlieParley Star for the comprehensive explanation

Yes. Only 7,000 from the half million could be bothered to engage with the consultation.

Only 1.4 percent of trans people, despite them being both desperate to not need any medical engagement and to need urgent medical engagement.

RE the Scotland timeframe question- Anne McLaughlin has tweeted that she misspoke in saying that the Scottish Government would move ahead with GRA reform prior to the Holyrood elections:

“I spoke on Gender Recognition today. I thought I'd 3mins but just b4 I spoke realised I'd only 1min. I hurriedly scored out most of it & as a result I apparently said reforms to the GRA in Scotland would be before elections next May. That's not correct & not what I meant to say.”

As a lifelong Labour member I never thought I'd see the day when I'd send a genuinely warm and grateful email to a Tory minister. And yet here we are.

Winesalot · 24/09/2020 16:31

She did retract *maduixa’ however it is a strong indication that this a policy platform they will use for election and that ‘reforms’ will be back in force. If they haven’t already practically made the changes already by then via other mechanisms.

gardenbird48 · 24/09/2020 16:45

It's not been removed as a medical condition, it has been reclassified. From psychological to sexual disorder IIRC.

and according to the WHO they worked with some trans advocates on this reclassification - they don't mention if they included any doctors or psychologists in this decision.

I understand that this has also had the effect of removing the provision of mental health treatment from gender questioning patients - they are automatically funnelled down the gender clinic route.

I wonder if that could be why there is now such a backlog at the Gender Clinics because their net is cast so wide that they are now receiving large numbers of referrals from what could end up being trauma, depression, eating disorder, anxiety diagnoses. It would interesting to see if there is a corresponding change in numbers or patient issues in the general mh services?

carefulvulvadriver · 24/09/2020 17:00

thank you for the correction re ICD 11 @CharlieParley and for that absolute wealth of info which is now book marked.

carefulvulvadriver · 24/09/2020 17:10

so basically the brighton MP was wrong. There isnt a problem with the GRC process requiring a diagnosis, because the condition still exists in ICD11 terms, it's just that it's been reclassified as a sexual disorder. Is that right @CharlieParley

I do vaguely remember reading elsewhere that some trans people are uncomfortable with the reclassification, and it does sit very oddly with the notion that this has nothing to do with sexuality.

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/09/2020 17:20

Anyone seen this? (if pic attaches)

Stonewall have kept shtum but they've retweeted this-someone complaining about us nasty women opposed to self id, because we could get raped anywhere, any time anyway, so what's all the fuss about?

Nice, using the word HILARIOUS in a sentence about rape.

Angry What the actual fuck? How fucking dare they? I'm seething.

OldCrone · 24/09/2020 17:25

If gender dysphoria is now a sexual disorder, can children still be diagnosed with this condition? Isn't it unusual for a child to be diagnosed with a sexual disorder?

merrymouse · 24/09/2020 17:27

I think its HILARIOUS that this person is talking about toilets, as though this was only ever about toilets.

It's not HILARIOUS that their irrelevant and offensive tweet has been retweeted by Stonewall.

FloralBunting · 24/09/2020 17:29

Yes, creating new loopholes to access victims for rapists is a fucking laff riot. Angry

When you think they can't stoop any fucking lower.

Their judgement day can't come fast enough. I hope their shitty group burns in fucking hell.

nauticant · 24/09/2020 17:47

This kind of division in Labour is what the Tories were aiming for in being reasonable but, Heaven forfend, not agreeing to all TRA demands:

twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1309070203377127427

Labour are in the wilderness until they learn to think tactically rather than just appeasing the most aggressive and trouble causing identity groups.

@OldCrone

I just looked this up. I found a paper on the draft proposals, I'm still looking for the final text. But it looks like the general heading is something like disorders of sexual health, and there's a gender incongruity in adults and adolescents section, and a gender identity disorder for children section.

All that lobbying to get things moved from mental health to 'sexual health' ...

Cailleach1 · 24/09/2020 18:16

@Escapeplanning, I do laugh at this, two countries that have declared war on Britain in my life time. This referred to Argentina and Ireland.

When did Ireland declare war on Britain, in your lifetime?

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/09/2020 18:20

@CharlieParley thank you so much for your posts, btw.

JoodyBlue · 24/09/2020 18:26

Liz Truss did really well. I do not understand the "bitter disappointment" arguments. People can live as they want, can apply for a GRC in course online. It makes no sense. I am distressed that there is so little critical thinking amongst these representatives. Do none of them think through the extension of self ID to its natural conclusion?

EdgeOfACoin · 24/09/2020 18:51

I have emailed Liz Truss, Felicity Buchan and Jackie Doyle-Price to thank them.

So many MPs talking about trans rights and none of them talking about women's rights or safety at all.

AnyOldPrion · 24/09/2020 19:02

When did Ireland declare war on Britain, in your lifetime?

Presumably this refers to the IRA, who regularly planted bombs, or threatened to do so, through much of my youth.

I think it's correct in that countries that don't have much equality in the first place it goes unnoticed because I don't think self ID in those countries is serving the same purpose (for the proponents) as here or Canada for example.

This comment was from a couple of pages back, but I wanted to comment on the fact that self-ID in the Scandinavian countries is also mentioned. In Scandi countries, equality between the sexes is much better than in the UK, however I’d say the populations of those countries are much less generally angry than the UK population. I think the UK at present seems to be a perfect powder-keg of dissatisfaction and male entitlement. At least it looks that way from the Scandi country where I live. The idea of self-ID in the UK terrifies me as there’s little doubt that the angry men who are leading this charge will rapidly assist others to abuse the situation, as we’ve seen happen in Canada with male trans politicians actively campaigning against women’s rape crisis provision and other facilities.

Cailleach1 · 24/09/2020 19:26

Really? That activities carried out by the IRA can be said to be Ireland declaring war on Britain. Not only Trans suicide rates which are being made up! There were bombs planted in Ireland by Loyalists, but it would be ridiculous to say it was the UK declaring war on Ireland.
