“In privately agreeing a way forward with the wider LGBT+ lobby both in parliament & outside”

Nice to have it confirmed that this was all being sewn up behind closed doors

In many cases that child has to be educated at home at the parents' expense, meanwhile, because all the LAs know that if they offer only grossly unsuitable provision, parents who care enough to go to tribunal are very likely to keep them at home to spare harm.

It's not only about whether parents "care enough." Not everyone has the resources to go to a tribunal or to give up work and educate their child at home in the meantime. Having less money and not being able to pay for a private diagnosis doesn't mean those parents care less about their child.

Parents who don't do that have kids who fall through the cracks completely.

Parents who CAN'T do that, or do you think people choose to just not bother to help their child? But sure, you keep judging from your no doubt middle class viewpoint. How dare you characterise those who are able to go a tribunal as those who "care enough." 😡

Emotional blackmail now. Shameless

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/09/2020 11:00

The MPs are confused and conflicted about whether 'transition' is a medical process or not.

Truss getting a lot of flak from her own woke MPs as well as Labour and SNP.

Now being accused of 'whipping up hatred' by Stephen Doughty (Lab). Surprised that Hoyle allowed that tbh.

Melroses · 24/09/2020 11:00

That was from Stephen Doughty.

Quite something to see so many MPs berating the Minister about trans, trans, trans and not one mentioning women.

I know - that is shocking - she is really being left on her own there.
JamieLeeCurtains · 24/09/2020 11:04

Felicity Buchan (Con) finally asks about women's prisons. Truss says biological sex important.

CharlieParley · 24/09/2020 11:04

So, the 84% suicidal and 51% attempt has been mentioned yet again by an MP criticising the waiting list for appointments.

Leaving aside the known questionable origin of these numbers, here is another issue - the MP implies that only a medical transition will protect from suicidal ideation and, ultimately, lives. But we know this isn't true. Research has shown that a transition does not alleviate this problem. Some research has suggested, it worsens. For complicated reasons, but one of the most important is that people in this position often put too much hope into the medical transition. As Scotland's first woman who medically transitioned told the Valentine's Day meeting in Edinburgh, doctors told her surgery would fix all of her problems. And when it didn't, she got worse. She later did find a way to accept herself as a woman and detransitioned.

The MP's claim that medical transition is necessary to prevent suicides is not borne out by the facts.
