Thank you to all the brilliant women in mumsnet, A Woman's Place and academia who led the way and to the few brilliant voices in the media such as James in the Speccie and Janice in The Times. Sterling work from all.

So many key women in academia to mention. Is there a key figures list anywhere?
ArabellaScott · 22/09/2020 18:22

Yes, thanks to the women of FWR, and thanks @MNHQ. Formidable. Flowers

Well deserved praise but I think we've one a battle not the war

Sadly, I think you are right. It is a achievement of course, but far far too many companies listened (and continue listening to) mermaids/stonewall bollocks of 'getting ahead of the law' and stuff. Stonewall will also be fighting as dirty as possible, so we have to keep an eye out for their next step, they seem intent on destroying womens rights, by any means necessary for some reason.

I find it hard to understand how TRAs are not happy with the result, when I imagine they think like any other person would. Less cost, win. Easier to apply, win. Acknowledgement that for most transpeople..its other issues that are more important, and as such, more trans related healthcare..double win?! So IF it really was about transpeople, this would be great for them. Unfortunately its been obvious for ages this is nowt to do with trans rights and everything to do with dismantling womens rights. So there can be endless improvements for transpeople and yet the wailing will continue until womens rights are dismantled.

BatShite · 22/09/2020 18:36

Mind I actually think the GRA should be ended in full tbh. Those who already have one, their status can be grandfathered. But the whole point of the GRC is moot. It was only ever a way to get around same sex marriage not being legal, and pension age. Both of which have been sorted now. So the original point is not there anymore. Those who have one, keep it, but no more. Would be my preferred answer to this. But currently, I am quite happy with the result.

RadandMad · 22/09/2020 18:37

I didn't think I had a nationalist bone in my body, but it warms the heart cockles to think that Britain is genuinely leading the world in resisting this assault on women's rights. Bravo to all the brave souls who have been fighting the good fight for years, from those of us who have woken up more recently.

Gingernaut · 22/09/2020 18:39

Stonewall are trying to distract themselves/others.

I agree, it’s a good day today. Wonderful article from James, I follow him on Twitter due to his stance on this and was so heartened to read his shout out to the great women of Mumsnet/this board.

Well done Mumsnet for helping to educate me on this matter, my eyes are wide open thanks to you and the brave journalists who stick their necks out again and again. I will not forget!

Floisme · 22/09/2020 18:48

Thank you.

Floisme · 22/09/2020 18:51

And how comical that Stonewall are now asking for a debate.

WoobyWoo · 22/09/2020 18:54

Fantastic news, very proud of you all!

Winesalot · 22/09/2020 18:58

I think that whoever accepts these petitions would be very aware of the scamming and spamming nature of this petition. It will be noted exactly like their efforts in the last consultation.

I look forward to James’ articles when I see them. It is like a breath of fresh air. So, if you are reading this thread James, thank you and keep on keeping it real!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/09/2020 19:03

Really? #NoDebate really hasn’t aged well, has it? Wrong side of history my arse.
Al1Langdownthecleghole · 22/09/2020 19:03

A side issue, but what the fuck is going on with the comments in the times?

Perfectly reasonable comments deleted and a poster making knob jokes every other line.

Datun · 22/09/2020 19:04

@Floisme

And how comical that Stonewall are now asking for a debate.
Isn't it just.

Where were they five bloody years ago, asking to be listened to in public?

No debate, mate, that's where.

Frankly, the only thing this issue ever needs is sunlight.

Let's have it.

Let's have the debate.

We have moved forward just enough, to really have it.

MichelleofzeResistance · 22/09/2020 19:07

If the debate is going to start all over again, then this round will need to include taking to the general public, why is the GRA being repurposed when the issue it addressed no longer exists; should legal fictions such as this exist at all; and what precedents does this set for other legal fictions for other characteristics?

DeliciouslyFemale · 22/09/2020 19:11

I only came here to see why Mumsnetters were so hateful and nasty, as they kept being quoted in the papers. I then commented on a thread where a male bodied person who identified as trans, was showing a dress. Then this horrible poster came on to tell us to wise up and that we were behaving like cock centring fools. Boy oh boy, have I educated myself since that first experience. I shudder at my naivety and man pleasing socialisation, when I look back.

The FWR board and Spectator has really helped me understand what is really going on. Thank you to all involved, even the trolls, because their obvious hatred of women continues to show me what women are at risk of losing.

ArabellaScott · 22/09/2020 19:14

*Frankly, the only thing this issue ever needs is sunlight.

Let's have it.

Let's have the debate.*

Oh, we will. We are. We are having it household by household, we don't need the govt to facilitate it or have another consultation to 'educate' us like Sturgeon suggested. We are having this debate whether Stonewall likes it or not. EVEN THE BITS YOUD RATHER WE DIDNT DISCUSS.

Mytholmroyd · 22/09/2020 19:17

Brilliant - took out a subscription to the Spectator last year purely because of James kirkup who was one if the few journalists willing to take this on. Will continue to buy it.

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2020 19:21

I'm so proud of us.

'Normal' women like me, with no knowledge of any of this until Mumsnet alerted me to this, absolutely pulling out all the stops to achieve something so important.

Thanks James, thanks FWR. No thanks to my MP.

SophocIestheFox · 22/09/2020 19:22

Hellooooooo James! Waving back atcha Grin sterling work you’re doing there.

We make a difference here. If I hadn’t been here, I wouldn’t have found my way to Fair Play For Women, and I wouldn’t have been out leafletting and finding out what people in the street really think of this issue. It was that grass roots action that stopped self ID in its tracks. Hurray for us!

Same here
Floisme · 22/09/2020 19:28

Sorry I think I might have let my love of a good joke get in the way of the facts upthread. I don't think that petition for a debate was organised by Stonewall - maybe they still don't want one.

EarthSight · 22/09/2020 19:36

@TherapistInATabard Start a petition with our own views on the matter? Trouble is, women are so scared of getting cancelled and reported for standing up for our rights on social media that I'm not sure if we can beat their numbers, despite outnumbering them otherwise.

queenofknives · 22/09/2020 19:43

This is lovely. I think this is one victory of many achieved and many still to come. I feel a bit tearful! Wine Wine Wine
